Every time I play Elite I find myself quitting rather disappointed

Try alcohol! Grind away and have a brew! It's a lot more fun that way. The next morning you find you made 5 million more credits...or could be in a Sidey' again...could go either way.

I told myself I wouldn't come to the forums and complain but I can't help myself.

I've played E:D since beta 1.x, and it was great fun, by far one of the most entertaining games I've played, and FD are by far one of the best game development companies, they listen to their community. but recently, since Gamma/release, I can't push myself to play E:D anymore.

Every time I try to play it usually consists of endlessly flying around trying to find a decent trade route that'll pay more than pennies, I've considered trying mining but from what I've heard mining is just more of a grind and less profitable than trading. I'm flying about in a hauler so I'm not even going to attempt bounty hunting.
I know this thread is just going to be treated as another rant against the trading nerfs, which I guess it is, but I don't really care. Grinding trading routes that gives me no more than 1-3k profit isn't entertaining, if anything it's the exact opposite, It's tedious and boring, Games aren't supposed to be tedious and boring. The only reason I was able to buy a hauler was from selling the Freegal from the merc pack.

E:D has the potential to be an amazing and extremely fun game, but for me it's the opposite currently, I would love to be able to come on and play for hours again but I can't, I've never found any form of extreme grinding fun, not in any game, and I'm sure I never will. But sadly most games released today revolve around grinding to progress further.

So I'm pretty much done with E:D for now, unless I somehow manage to come across a good way to progress in this game, I can't see myself playing it much in the future.
Rant over, I'm out, have fun.

Been there, done it and bought the tea shirt...........if you take the time to look at the trade network you can earn loads of credits, but you have to take the time to explore/assess it? I am doing trade runs that net me 150K each trip in High Sec at the moment. (They will disappear). The point is they don't jump out at you and say "Trade Me" you gota go look! In between I go bounty hunting which is fun.

When someone says "grind" I think "Hmm.. your attitude is all wrong".

Don't race for the biggest ship
Don't race to get millions in the bank
Don't race to get the top ranks

Do have fun, take your time, explore the universe!

I'm still in a Cobra, I don't plan on buying another ship for at least a couple of months, as for credits, I'm just surviving, I'm not rich I usually have between 30,000 and 120,000cr. as long as I can pay my repairs and fuel costs I'm happy.

No offence guys but some people really need to learn that not all games are "rush to end/top/best level ASAP!!!!!!!!".

I think once people have played for a while the game will develop, people will join factions, fight over trade routes etc.. Given many people started from zero, it's going to take a while to mature.

Go USS hunting. Free cargo, Bounties. Take on some missions. Become a courier. Keep an eye out for rares , or do all of these things and explore while doing it.

This is how I play and I find that it varies my experience and never it becomes a grind. To me credits are a nice side effect. Not the goal.

TBH, for me it was more rewarding to go out and explore, there are some great views, all I had was a Hauler, spent a whole week flying to nebula, there is some awesome stuff out there! When I got back I got paid 2.5 Million for sight seeing! Bargin

I have been mainly running BB missions around my local systems recently as I was struggling a bit with the trading too.

Got my local rep to about 84% running mainly the delivery ones, some pay really well.

Currently in a reasonable Cobra with 1 million CR, slowly working towards the type 6, I reckon a week or two until I have enough to equip it.

They made some changes in the last couple of days to the market but said it will take a while to settle down.

Have a nice break over Christmas, if the changes work the market should be a bit better in a couple of days.

How can mining be less profitable than trading? :) Mining is pure profit and you don't need to invest in anything else but a refinery and a mining laser. If you find a decent system with metallic planet rings you can earn 200-400k credit per hour. I know you can earn more with trading but than you need huge cargo hold and credit balance "to play" with. With mining its enough to have a hauler, adder or a cobra.

And yes... you might just burned out. Take a break.

Mining is only profitable if you dupe the mechanic by SCing out then in again. Some gamers don't think that duping the mechanic should be part of the game. Much like the hunting mechanic that is now broken once you figure out all you need to do is wait instead of hunt, and the USSs will spawn next to your waiting ship. Very poorly thought out mechanic IMO. I imagine with a little more thought and a change of the mechanic it can be rectified in the future.

But as many have said you take from the game what you bring to it. Try another play style for a while. The game will only get better. There is much more to come........sooner than later I hope.

HOTAS, OR, VOICE ATTACK -- brings a whole new experience to the game.

Also, trading is boring. That's a fact. It can be fun initially, that feeling of finding a good route... but once you make the journey once or twice.... wow, what a snooze fest. Mix it up. Do a little trading, then do some Bounty Hunting, then maybe some smuggling, or some pirating. Lot of options.

I'm getting in pirating, its quite awesome. Nothing like telling a pilot to surrender their goods or be blown up.... most run.... most die. But, if you get a hatch breaker, you can still get some goods before they go pop.

OR.... just take a break.

Don't care who you are, trading gets boring fast unless you are constantly mixing things up and/or putting yourself in risky trade routes. But, everybody has a different opinion -- to me, bounty hunting actual players is the best feeling that I can get out of this game. Pirating players is the second.

Wait what does SCing in and out actually do?

I'll reiterate the issue I've voiced in other threads: sometimes in order for certain individuals to enjoy their experience, they have to grind first, there's no other choice. But who wants to play a game and take it slow doing things they don't enjoy? The game needs more options and more variety in the options it does have. Every single 'profession' is utterly predictable. I really, really love ED, but between now and getting to where I want to be it's just not fun.

I didn't take advantage of broken rare trading and now I kinda wish I had because then I wouldn't need to grind and I would be having a blast like I was at the end of beta. I didn't even play at all during gamma. For some reason or another I thought there would be far more depth post release. Certainly, you can suggest that I make my own depth, so to speak, but that's not actually my job. I don't play a game to deliver half of the experience myself. That just excuses the developers from offering a whole experience. If I wanted to use my imagination for nearly every aspect of the game I would just stick to my real job; writing. At it's core, ED kind of feels like a tech demo for the time being which was fine with me during beta but now I want something more substantial.

Something that doesn't feel like a second job.

I know what you are saying. I used to trade too the old fashion way. Run around and try to find a honest trade route the old manual way and there used to be quite a few. After the trade rebalancing, that was nearly impossible to do and it took me 5-10x as much time in finding the trade routes. So I downloaded slopeys and realized they have to be balancing trade on using this tool. My income went back up to almost where it was pretrade nerf.

So, in the end, if you want to trade and want to not shoot yourself in the face, use the tool or quit...both are perfectly viable options.

Would now like to apologise to you lot for whining.
Took your advice, traveled out a bit and went mining. Finally getting fun out of E:D again, already upgraded from a hauler to an adder.

I guess I was just being a bit of an idiot, focusing too much on trading.
So thanks to all of you.

I make 1200~1300 per ton per direction from trading.

I am so god damn bored of trading but there's no point in doing anything else if I want to reach a decent ship.

I'd love to do combat but warzones are hard to find and don't even cover the cost of ammo/repairs/Fuel with only 3000 per kill.

Agreed 100 per cent. It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Yes. Use your imagination.

I've been playing since Alpha 2.0 and I still play daily and love it.

My golden tip?

Don't play it as just "another game"

Roleplay your character, it makes a world of difference, trust me. :)

Couldn't agree more. If you view it as an alternate reality with an on/off switch it makes so much more sense.
