Bounty hunting - the System Authority are your friends!

Having break from exploring and thought i'd go for a little pew pew. Been at it a couple of days now, and i have to say, i have no idea what problems people are having with the police. They police are awesome! They are your friends!

Been hunting around a Nav beacon in an indep system. Plenty of wanted guys around, along with a few "clean" who frequently scan me and then moan about me not carrying any cargo. I really should put a few tons of something in my hold, tempt them into firing on me, but then i'd have to turn on report crimes against me.... maybe ill give it a try.

Anyway, the police, as I said are great. You spot a hostile, and go to take him on, or find one that the police are already engaging. Its pretty smart, they help you kill the target, and from what i can tell, as long as you do a decent % of hull damage to the target you get the bounty.

Just need to be careful not to hit the police with your fire, stay out of their way while flying around, and you are pretty sorted. Racked up 100k+ in just a couple of hours of play. Best was about 35k for a Competent Asp i think. There was a Python with a bounty of 50k, but i was too slow to engage after the SA took its shields down and obviously didn't do enough damage to qualify for the bounty. Also an Elite Viper than managed to get away with 20% hull that would have given me a nice bounty.

So, to all those complaining about the police, learn to work with them, they will be your best friends!

Only issue I have with bounty hunting is that I scan a ship, he has a 20k bounty from the Empire, but he's part of an Empire faction. If I kill him I lose Empire reputation. I understand if I lose faction rep, but I shouldn't lose Empire rep for FULFILLING their bounty. It makes no sense.

They are great. Until they smash into you and throw themselves in front of your weapons with a heavily implied "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" as if they're your target's bodyguard.

I play as a bounty hunter. Only ever flagged as wanted ONCE for friendly fire. The game is suppose to be a sim folks, not an arcade game. Patience and tactics need to be learned. Guns blazing like you're in an arcade game will have consequences, as there should be. In fact it should be harsher! Merry Christmas commanders!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Tell me, how do I work with something that randomly turns hostile to me, even tho I got no bounties or fines on me?

No bounties.
No fines.
Federal Security engaging me.

Oh, you agree with us how the AI shouldn't be one of the dumbest things in video games this decade?
Or how ALL friendly fire should be followed with bounties, not just player hitting NPC, but also NPCs hitting player.
Or how there should be a system to hail apologies for the friendly fire or a possibility to pay the bounty straight to the officer.

It's a sim after all, not an arcade game.

A few points raised here relates to bugs which will be fixed, so dont get hung up on them. If a clean npc goes hostile on you then you can just boist away. Alternately, if you have report crimes on then they should get wanted statys.

"Don't get hung up on them", while people are trying to play the game? :p

Sure if they still complain about it 6 months after its been fixed, I'd definitely call it "getting hung up on them".
But hardly while its an ongoing issue.

They attack you because you're attacking craft that share their faction. I.e. if the Security Vessel for example is something like "Kreimainn Free" and the WANTED target is also in the same faction. Regardless of whether he is wanted or clean, they will attack you. It's hardly random, you're just not paying attention! The faction system was put in place like this as an added challenge for bounty hunters, hence most bounty hunters will go to anarchy systems now with a kill warrant scanner and just kill anything that's wanted in another system. The difference here is, even if you kill a member who's wanted in another system and shares the same faction as security vessels, as long as you do it in a anarchy system they will not pursue you. This is just pretty much a law system, that bounty hunters are not above the law, they just help execute it. You can't go around killing anyone you want to right in front of the space cops and expect their not to be consequences. Wanted or not, if they share the same faction with the security vessels they will attack you.
