No challenge without PvP? Without PvP you get to play the game as originally intended. The PvP is just an interruption of the gameplay, and usually ends with the player winding up going back to solo, unless that's all they care about killing other players.

I`ve seen plenty of players around, though I never communicated with any of them. I've discovered my interest in bounty hunting and since then spend much time at Nav Beacons hunting wanted NPCs. Often there are too many other players piling up to kill any wanted ship that shows up. Once I hit another ship by mistake during a dogfight and got a 400Cr bounty. Ha, I didn't realize that this painted a huge target on my back and it took only moments until a player saw my wanted status and went after me. I reacted too late and he got me. Learned my lesson for next time.

I'm usually not a multiplayer guy but so far I am really pleased with how it's implemented in ED so far. And if I ever get annoyed by other players I can always switch to Solo.
I feel the whole griefing debate has been blown out of proportion. As for me, there's no need for FD to change anything about that aspect of the game.

none as i play solo only. but i am not blind, i can see the floods of Eve online grifers pouring into open play.
Misinformed rubbish. I've been playing mostly in the core systems since gamma, seen lots of other players, and never been attacked once. Plenty of that time spent hauling cargo in a Type 6, so a sitting duck for these mythical griefers. There's so much paranoia about PvP it's unreal. If the situation was remotely similar to the way you people describe it, I'd be playing in solo too. Open play has consistently been a sedate and pleasant experience for me - and for the vast majority, judging by every poll. Stop trying to spread irrational fear.

Man. I'm not sure where some of you guys who say it never happens are playing but I get into PvP literally everyday.

I camp and NPC k-scan hunt at the anarchy nav beacon that's closest to the post-release LHS 3446 spawn (Nglibia or something like that.). It's an anarchy system so for those who don't know, that means EVERYONE is listed as "clean" and you need to run a k-warrant scan on them to see what their bounty may be in the non anarchy systems. It also means you can open up on anyone, player or non player, for any reason, regardless if they have bounty or not, and you still remain Clean In all systems.

Everyday I am attacked by a player for some reason only he's aware of (perhaps my commander name is offensive ...). And everyday I artack and usuall kill at least 1 other player. Example: eventually I get mad at a player taking the last shot on an NPC anaconda i worked down to 2% and stealing my bounty and So later I casually park on his 6 and open up on him as soon as he engages the next big NPC ship. Bam.

There's constant PvP at that nav beacon. I'm playing in a million credit Viper and MM has no trouble putting me In a player populated instance. Naturally I don't see you beta tester guys in your Asps and Pythons but there are plenty of player Viper/Cobra/Eagles there.

MM is tricky on this one. Like I wouldnt come to this waypoint in an eagle or sidewinder, as you will still see player controlled Vipers and Cobras. But in a viper or cobra, it's great fun when a player controlled sidewinder irritates you. Another tip here is actual team play. I'm a WarThunder air to air guy and came to this game with a small group of WarThunder buddies. Often we are NPC farming this nav beacon as a team, using teamspeak for voice comms alternating kill shots on the NPCs to take turns collecting the bounty. With no squadron or name tag giveaways, another player would have zero idea that we are a group working together in voice comms. It's really the biggest thrill of the game to have a player open up on one of us, only to realize an instant later that there are now multiple player controlled ships on his 6 opening up :)

Yes. I've come full circle on PvP. I hated it the first time I was In an eagle with a good chunk of uncollected bounty and was wasted by a Cobra. But now playing as a stealth group of vipers... Well PvP is a welcome delight.

There seems to be a number of threads and comments about people getting hammered by someone who clearly has spent more time in game and thus has a bigger/better ship. What is hard to work out is if the number of comments are disproporionate to the actual amount of times someone new has been attacked (I choose not to use the word grief as I am not really sure quite what constitutes that word).

I chose solo and then mobius as my previous games and pvp experience were structured to a point where there was some kind of level restriction so combat was (in theory albeit not always in practise) more balanced. I may well pvp in this, but do not currently have the time to make fast advancements so chose to get used to the game and develop more in something of a sanctuary.

It's totally disproportionate. Check out the poll of people who think they've actually been griefed. It's less than 10% last time I looked. I've traded millions in open without being attacked once.

I've had a hand full of PVP encounters (If I was really into PVP I would hand out in a warzone).

I would far rather chat than PVP but if the other player leaves no choice I will fight.

When it comes to other players I have a strict code of conduct, try and text chat first and if they do not answer I never fire the first shot and do not kill them. When they are down to 20% hull I put the guns away, turn the engines off and make a second attempt to chat.

Oh, almost forgot to say, the text chat is a friendly "Hi", not a demand for cargo. I do not Pirate. In fact I do not even own a cargo scanner or FSD interdictor. Other players have to pull me out of SC.

My experience is that there are far fewer forced PVP players out their than anyone thinks (perhaps they are all too busy posting on the forums). Space can be a lonely place filled with robots and meeting the odd player makes it far more interesting.

Even though I currently play as a pirate in Elite, I really only have encounter 3 people in the game that ended up with an exchange of gun fire. One of them was a bounty hunter in a Nav Point that decided to interrupt me while I was pirating a npc. I turned my ship around and we had a little stare down. Perhaps 5 seconds pass and then he opens fire with his multicannons. After a little bit of a turn war I was able to get on his six and take his ship apart. The other 2 were traders, 1 hauler and 1 type 6, that decided that is was a good idea to forgo their shield generators for more cargo space and travel thru well populated territory. I don't normally pirate players as I make better money on NPCs, but something about trade ships that ditch their shield generator make me think that they are just begging to be harassed. So I pulled them out of SC and shot them up a bit. I didn't kill them, nor did I really have any real intention to, but I did send them a chat message before they jumped out along the lines of "Next time equip a shield generator you greedy idiot!"

It's not a grief if its a fair fight and they choose to. You must think all PvP is griefing at that rate. There is no challenge in this game without PvP.

This. This so much! I'm fighting every possible minute because there is nothing else in this game that requires skill at this point. Playing a game without achieving some kind of improvement of skill or a possibility to measure yourself against other players simply doesn't work for me. So yea, PvP all the way.

First day of release in the LHS start system I dropped in on the Nav beacon and found a commander that was wanted. He was easy pickings. I got 180Cr, LOL'ed at how bad that was and never bothered with PvP again.

Since release I've Boiled a Wanted CMDR in an Eagle for the 25K-CR bounty. Also did a bit of piracy. Guy in type 6 with 100tons of silver on board, He was hanging out with another guy in a hauler just outside a no fire zone. He took a potshot at me so I burned out his shields and told him to drop 10 tons. He started running for the station so took his hull down to 50%. tried to talk to him again. I would have finished him off but I was sending comms to the wrong player so let him go.

Since leaving the starting systems I have seen two players. One I interdicted to see if I could, and he attacked me. The other, we just spoke.

Just wondering

Is there a possibility of a server coming out in the future that does not mingle/merge with single player mode?

There seems to be so much anger from people who don't want to be at constant risk towards those that enjoy that type of environment. I don't get it. Many are talking on here as if being compared to EVE online is such a horrible thing, but there are hundreds of thousands of people waiting for a game with eve type political and sandbox features with actual skill based pvp. Why not try to attract the different playstyles? Why are so many of you sooo insistant that only one playstyle can be represented?

I get that many don't like to feel always on their guard , and many want only consentual pvp, I don't understand this but I get that different people like different things. For many that feeling that they can be jumped and killed at any time is a huge part of the fun, building empires and risk vs reward etc...

Their are many clans multi gaming clans that have been fighting each other in different games for years (talking like 15 plus years here). We aren't 12 year old kids but range from 18 to 50ish or even older. We enjoy the competition and are not a small number.

If they made a server like this I would be willing to bet it would not only fill the fastest and draw the most players . But would bring many players who decide to join the merged servers as well.

Why does it HAVE to be one playstyle or the other? Seems detrimental to the games survival when both styles would be incorporated by simply adding another server.

Been attacked by player pirates a couple of times, legged it both times. Both times were in a warzone system.

Engaged in PvP quite a few times in warzones. Yesterday I blasted one guy and then another guy shot my engines out so I had to self destruct. Life.

One slight gripe about warzone PvP is, as soon as another player is in the area you have to watch your azz, even if he's on your 'side' in the faction war. I think I've been quasi-ambushed (I know it's coming so not really an ambush) in that way pretty much every single time there's another human pilot shooting up the evil Imperials same as me in the same area. The desire to engage in PvP seems to totally override a desire to engage in the actual setting, anyway. Ofc, if they are fighting on the other side it's game on as far as I'm concerned. :)

I view warzone PvP as a way to spend credits on fun. I don't make credits doing this, I lose out, but when there's a stash in the bank and I don't mind blowing some of it, then I hop over to Durius and have at it for a bit.

Speaking for myself, I like the interaction but can't stand clans. So atm, the present setup is absolutely ideal for me. Ultimately it's a game about freelancing - exactly like all the other Elites so I don't see why this would be a surprise - but if you want you can bump into the odd player and have a laser duel on top.

Plus I like the dynamic universe idea so the online solo sounds cool to me. I've only ever played open up till now but if open ends up dominated by clans then I'll switch to solo mostly and still enjoy interacting with the dynamic universe without being ganked by pirate wings because I prefer flying on my own.

Just once so far, while at an anarchy nav beacon, and it didn't end fatally for either player. Haven't actively gone looking for it though, nor done any warzone fighting yet - as a rule I leave other players to their business unless they choose not to let me.
