Another Cobra weapon thread.....

Firstly, Merry Xmas
I just "upgraded" from Adder to Cobra....I didn't play in Beta so am a little lost in some areas!
On the adder I used fixed beam lasers x2 and the roof had a gimballed MCannon - this worked well.

The C1 "wing weapons" on the Cobra must be gimballed I assume?
I am torn between:
1) c1 Gimballed MCx2 and c2 (?Fixed) beam lasers x2 (I don't think there are tier 2 burst lasers).
2) c1 Gimballed Beam (or ?burst) lasers x2 and c2 fixed/Gimballed MCs

in option 2 I don't know how MC perform when fixed....
I am leaning to option 1 as the C2 beam lasers will still kill things if I run out of ammo...

Help!!
Thanks

I use 'Class 2 cannons' (gimballed) X2 and 'Class 1 Beam lasers' (fixed) X2. Works well for me, since killing shields, although important, aren't as time consuming as killing the ship outright.

I would go for option 2 because I doubt running out of ammo is going to be a worry when you fight an anaconda.

This is my preference. Go with what you feel is more important. Shield removal speed or ship destruction speed + cost of ammo.

Why are your wing beam lasers fixed and your central weapons gimballed?

The answer is always multicannons and lasers. I recommend multicannons on the larger size since ships usually have more hull than shields and smaller lasers don't have problems against larger shields.

I'm using Beams for the class 2's up top and seeker missiles for the C1's underneath. Its a bit more difficult fighting large ships because if you target subsystems the seekers tend to just hit hull, but they destroy smaller craft very quickly. I dumped a C4 internal cargo and went for a B4 shield cell, and use it as my alternate fire with the lasers when I'm fighting big ships. It has like 11 charges or something crazy like that so you can tank an anaconda all day while working on that power plant up close.

Of course its no longer suitable for trading, but you can swap back as needed

I don't think using fixed weapons on the smaller mounts is feasible due to the convergence issues, and gimballed small hardpoints are very weak. This is one of the reasons the Viper is a superior combat ship, if only slightly.

A better question is why not? Why can't I have my ship the way I want it!? Who are you to tell me what to do!

Overreaction aside I originally had them all gimballed when I went to fight an anaconda, really useful help from the community in my thread. I have currently started to change everything out for fixed weapons but have yet to find any weapons of the correct class and type.

Will change them all to be fixed soon enough.

So gimballed burst/beam on the C1s and fixed MCs on the larger slots?

Probably your best bet. You need big projectile weapons to chew through larger ship's armour.

As for gimballed/fixed that decision really comes down to how accurate you are as a pilot, gimballed weapons do less damage than fixed and can be knocked off target by flares.
