TrackIR 5 compatibility modifications!

I'd like to see if any members here have managed to get the TrackIR 5 camera to be utilized by other tracking software such as FreeTrack or FaceTrackNoIR with the PointTracker plugin. So far, I've been able to get FreeTrack to "detect" the TrackIR 5 camera. It's ID given by OptiTrack (a TrackIR SKD) is the same as the one found in the TrackIR 5 software. Though, FreeTrack isn't recording through the camera. I've also tried FaceTrackNoIR. The PointTracker plugin doesn't seem to find the camera at all unlike FreeTrack. I'll keep working on this, but I'd like to know what you guys can make of this.

(Too bad I can't post any pictures it seems.)

Games like Project Reality, which happens to be a mod of Battlefield 2, can only utilize 6dof head tracking with software such as FreeTrack or FaceTrackNoIR since TrackIR doesn't actually support the title. If we can manage to unlock the TrackIR 5 camera, we could use it in order to activate 6dof head tracking in many games other than the few officially supported. Games like ED and their head tracking are only a few of all the games which could rejoice from this freedom.

I use TIR in a few other games which are not "officially supported" by the TIR people. I have no dog in this hunt, but why would it be up to the TIR people to constantly update their software to build in support for new games? I'd think it would be the games who should build in the ability to support TIR for POV movement.

Just curious; if Project Reality recognizes FreeTrack or FaceTrackNoIR, what's keeping it from working with TIR? Have you tried running the TIR software as Administrator to see if that works?

What has TrackIR got to do with VR?

This thread may very well belong in the Hardware forum, though it does touch game immersion and things of the such, relative to a virtual reality, no?

Indeed I have. The Project Reality implementation uses 3rd party software which uses the FreeTrack protocol. TrackIR does want to communicate with the program it would seem, or simply doesn't detect it at all.
