Future development plans?

lol why are people so opposed to getting information on where the game is going?

frontier is dropping the ball on this. there should be a 'where we're going now' link on the launcher. People shouldn't have to post threads just to figure out what's going on with the missing ships. Even if all there was is 'we're adding these missing ships soon, and our first priority for the game is adding improved multiplayer features with Wings' it would be 1000% better than now.

Actually, fewer and fewer of us do. Time off from work has become another measure of 'laziness' towards the company you work for. Performance reviews hinge on how much time you didn't utilize if you or a family member was sick, most workers that take their vacation time do not make their full annual pay increase.

A sad state of affairs indeed.

A lot of us are Americans, and have no idea what boxing day is, or what a bank holiday is

Boxing day is the day after Christmas when we are all so drunk we spill onto the streets and beat the crapola out of each other
.
A bank holiday is/was a set day when Banks closed they are set aside as days when, officially, everyone is entitled to not have to work, in practice days are often given in lieu and taken on another day.
.
Ah...Lieu is French so blame them for this...means 'instead of'
.
Didn't Americans invent the internet and google?
It isn't good enough the Dev wont instantly respond to you, but you won't take the time to look things up either?
I don't live in the UK either

Britain, Tim Berners-Lee, invented the modern day world wide web
Google is just one of a number of search engines....the first search engine was Canadian I believe
.
So go easy on them :)

Exactly, a where we're going page would be perfect

Im hoping FD follow on with the promise of expansion, but if ED is a failure and FD opens up the game to modder community then only good thing can happen, looked what happened to Freelancer with all those nice mod from the community, only problem is we'll have to wait, the games only 3 weeks old, if FD a smart company they will fix bug fist, listen to the gaming community. Personally i dont think well see a big expanseion for another 6 months, but at least we'll have some bug fixes in between and maybe a few free small expansion

All I care about is making Groups/Wings top priority, and then continue to make Missions, Trading, Piracy, Bounty Hunting, Exploring, and Minning deeper and more engaging. Anytime I hear someone talk about planetary landings I just want to tell them "Can we let them finish the game they started before we ask for expansions."

+1000 we need more depth on CURRENT systems before more fluffy stuff. The base is rock solid though.

Start by implementing an actual proper XXI cent comm system in game, chat system is AWFUL.

And this?

It's the same stuff I have pasted in the last 200 identical threads BTW

Tim Berners-Lee is justly credited with the WWW and HTML (great example of Britain knack for math and computers).

Internet to be precise is American originally, DARPA came with the research and the project for the US Army, then the Californian ARPANET was the real precursor. When NSFNET was decommissioned, the network was able to officially be used for private and commercial interests.

Sorry to sound sanctimonious, precision is kinda my thing... Ya know just a bit OCD, maybe?

Can't find the original thread, but this site has a screen shot of it.

Wings is the next content release, it was posted here on these forums in a thread. That is your notification of what is coming next. I'm sure when that is out, they'll let us know - not just a video that tells you what they have planned, but what is in the pipeline next.

The fact is, a lot of people only started recently - either just before or just after release. It's easy to be unaware of what has been said before, but they have been communicative. The game just came out and it's a national holiday period.

Relax people :)

As it turns out I am really enjoying the game even as it is and my hope is FD stay afloat and the game remains in their control and it does not become subscription based.

Other than that I can just see what happens with features when they are introduced.

What I want to know is what is their incentive to continue work on this game if there is no renewable income? Or are the paint jobs you can buy etc the income they are counting on? As it stands now only new game sales bring in revenue. I'm surprised that there is not a subscription for this game.

Some see micro transactions as the devil :) but a lot of games successfully restrict it to cosmetic options. It'll be interesting to see what they do; if it can be restricted to pilot outfits and gun camo + ship paintjobs/decals or whether they add extra stuff.

As long as it isn't pay to win, I'll be happy.

Frontier will hopefully spend a big chunk of 2015 finishing off the basic game content still missing on release date such as missing ships, missing squadron mechanics, languages localization, DDA missing mechanics in exploration and mining, improving the missions system and the influence and rep systems... and a large etc.

And all that is just about the base game... nevermind the expansions.

thank you for this.
but there is nothing in the discussion to show me anything new and ive gone through it all:/

Have a look at the videos in the wiki, where Braben and the devs speak

They highlight how the game is going to change
There is also this, about 'wings':

http://www.incgamers.com/2014/12/elite-dangerous-player-wings-feature-due-early-next-year

PS Like Valsora said, it's a thread that comes out every time someone buys a new copy and instead of searching opens a new one

And yea in Europe we get holidays and stuff, so don't really expect loads of communication under Xmas

Semi-officially DDA are still considered their source material for new features.

More officially, Michael has stated that they won't post a roadmap for development. (I might be wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure)

Why not? that would be a simple way to quell concerns, why is it such secret what the next features will be?
