EDs case of Destintius

As beautiful and often awe inspiring as ED is, it's not ready. Not to say it's unstable, it's not. Quite the opposite, but it does have a raging case of Destinitus. That is it's core systems, flight etc. are solid and impressive, the visuals exceptional and the audio best in class, but like Destiny, it is exceptionally bereft of content, engaging narrative or effective social systems. I was so impressed for the first few days until I realized this. I have great hope that Frontier will address this and give pilots something to do other than chain jumping into random gen instances (USS) to fulfill random gen missions in random gen star systems and playing docking sim 2014. Read 10 ED reviews in the next week and find me one that doesn't mention this issue.

Agreed, mostly. Although I get the feeling I've got a more optimistic approach still. I honestly think a few months of work will see it flushed out a lot more. The USS search is a bore, I've beaten the system but afraid to tell anyone the spawn rules lest they get "nerfed."

I'm incredibly happy every time I climb into the cockpit, fire up pointracker and gaze around my cockpit. The core mechanics are so enjoyable to me, that I'm okay with shallow puddles to play in for the moment. I'd love to see more multi stage missions and missions more along the lines of large scale assaults. I'd love to see group play integrated in the next few months, and more difficult missions to accompany that.

I currently have enough goals and ambitions with what exists, that I imagine I'll be happy as a clam for months, and I've been around since premium beta, still not bored. But... Once I've seen every nebula from the seat of a clipper, there's only so much left I want with what's currently here.

But I'm still here, I still have faith in frontier. I don't know when you joined, but if you're new, believe me, they've done some amazing things in the last two years. They've got a really cool engine, I think they've got the right tools for magic, let's give them some time and see what they can do with it. I mean, its what... Two weeks from a Christmas launch? Let the poor team breathe.

Reviews are for the folks who lack brain of their own. We have a story unfolding, but how difficult it might be to make all-encompassing story with mere handful of folks when our tiny galaxy is ginormous in size to our puny planet?

People are making a difference. There's a number of civil wars that players have triggered now. It'll be interesting to see what comes of them. Players have also managed to trigger expansion of minor factions. I'll be joining in on some of this soon. I've currently got my eye own open for a special mix of factions ;)

Cheers Helo

I certainly don't mean to disparage the game or the devs. My reaction comes from seeing the promise in what is there, being so impressed and excited, then somewhat disappointed with the scope of the aspects mentioned (though the scale of the thing is staggering). I'm very hopeful it will become what I'm sure it can. On with the breathing!

jus be alert they have pushed to get the game out, stablised it while the staff are on xmas leave, come the new year well probably get arush of server side and client side updates and fixes, netcode and cpu improvements also

Reviews are a way for most folks to gauge possible interest in releases amid an ocean of them. They should be taken as one opinion among many. They are also a livelihood for a lot of fine people. Re more engaging story content, that will no doubt begin to take on a life of it's own via the community in time, but as we are early days, and with your concerns in mind, it's Frontier who can aid, providing focused content in the interim. Here's to hoping they do. Merry xmas by the way!

These posts baffle me...

Theres a story right there glaring you in the face. So your not the hero... there isnt a storyline thats holding your hand every step of the way making sure you fullfill "Checkpoints" to greatness and tells you how amazing you are after you get there. Why do people keep bashing this game saying its severly lacking content and their major complaint is that.

You want story? OK Here goes... Cause this is all taken from the game

So Far in Federation space, They recently outlawed Oninonhead a horrible narcotic drug, or so we are made to believe, thats affecting the minds of all of federation space. This has spawned some complaints among the farmers and people who sell it, which are now labeled as criminals and in possesion of illegal substances. Following this disbute, an Admiral ordered a bombardment of a farming outpost, killing not only the "criminals" and people fighting for Oninonhead but innocent civilians. As a result Martians have protested and protests were started as far away as Earth in old city of New York. Meanwhile, there was a rebellion in Sobargo (That you could of took part in btw) the slaves wanted liberation and players started giving them weapons and influencing their behavior. So they rebelled only to be crushed back into slavery.

In other news, the empire is fighting over who will become the next Emperor, as it looks to stand Praterus has some favor gaining, but his motives in some areas seem a bit sketchy. He has taken up to attacking the system of Durius which defected on its loan payments, loan payments that were used to buy Empire ships for their military, despite trying to give the ships back, Praterus wanted none of it and lashed out. You can now travel there and take part in the warzone and get credits for killing Imperial ships or help Praterus and the Empire take Durius! Jera, another system that Praterus has been stomping his feet around, has started to beat back the Empire and Praterus was not willing to comment at this time on his recent defeats in the area. The conflict there still continues.

On the independent side of things... Mikuunin (Spelling sorry) Is a system that operates on its own and has lately taken to expanding its dominion into 3 other systems, all of which has been player influenced and player ran. The Union of Toolfa Progressive party lately has enjoyed its economic boom and has begun efforts to stabilize and de-criminalize a nearby system of Avik. Its slow going but the Avik Syndicate is getting beaten back by the Independent state of Toolfa and its allies. (You can also participate in this) The Union of Toolfa Progressive Party has not commented on its recent expansion efforts in the area. Other Independent systems have lately begun to expand their borders and look at colonizing systems not previously Colonized. Only time will tell what will happen with these systems.

Attempt at my own personal story:
I got my first ship... a sidewinder... Although its a little dinged up, it will have to do for now, local pilots here in the LHS 3447 region tell me that Eagles are cheap and are a nice upgrade to my sidewinder.
So I finally did it... I got into an Eagle and man is it a beauty to fly! First thing I wanted to do was visit a system I have always wanted to! Some old book I read as a child said it once held impressive dust rings all the way around its star! Can you imagine? I put Fomalhaut into my Nav computer and off I went! Although, to my disappointment there was no massive dust clouds that planets seemed to swim in... Oh well, it was an older book and I really dont know if it was even accurate! Iv gotten into a bit of helping out the local security here though they've contracted me out and once Im done here maybe I'll take a long break and go see the home worlds of Sol!

So I finally made it to Alpha Centauri... but little did I know I needed a permit from the Federation to get into Sol! No one told me this and it upset me. Oh well, I'll just head back to the Tau Ceti region anyways. On my way back to Tau Ceti I found a system called Toolfa. Nice little system just a little ways off from Tau Ceti. I'll probably just call this home for now! Its as good of place as any! Im done with the Federation anyways, these Independent systems seem like they have it made!

Anyways, you just arent creative enough if you cant tie in all the missions together for a storyline! Although I do like stories... I like that this game is basically a sandbox.

TL;DR- Maybe its not the game that needs more things, maybe its you. Maybe the game just isnt for you?

I'm not sure I see the comparison.

Destiny had a tiny game world when promised to be something you can lose ten years too, had an abysmal plan to drain you of life with horrendously priced dlc and only used space vessels as a band aid for the plethora of loading screens. I'm not seeing the connection here.

Reviews are honest in pointing out that he game is not for everyone and people who want a mainstream experience should avoid it
Evidently nowadays no one reads reviews anymore sigh...

And OP, no thank you but taking example from Destiny is the exact opposite of where the game is going, thank god!!

ARRGGHHHHHHH!!!! STOP!!!!!

It's been out less than two weeks. Count them! This is the *beginning*. It's not like we are two years into the game here. Obviously, this is the bare minimum to get things up and running and the game universe will be built up from here. From this *starting point*.

Please stop whining people. And I mean that in the most innoffensive way possible. But fact us, people need to get some perspective. And they need to stop whining. I have never seen such a whiney gamer community. Enjoy what you have. Be patient.

Actually, I'm quite impressed with what they have done technically - as far as PC requirements go, my old AMD Athlon II 2 core was not that far behind my current i5 4690K quad care system - I noticed that asteroid fields are better, and the inside space stations is also a fair bit better with my current setup, but otherwise, an old 2 core with a reasonable graphics card will give you a reasonable experience.

I'm looking forward to improvements in the game itself, though. I'm happy with what's there so far, and treating at as a "get myself up to speed" with ships and flying skills until the extras get added in.

I'm hoping for some good stuff from Frontier int he next 6-12 months...

Z...

yes this is a massive game world...massive on an unimaginable scale....but....the water is 1 inch deep.

with zero social/group guild content, and nearly the same for pvp, this is a singleplayer with a sub 90"s level multiplayer...that marketed itself as mmo scale open world ssandbox.those features are what give us the ability to flesh out the player story lines and make this a living breathing universe....and they sadly arent there.

id give them about 2 months tops to start getting those aspects put in place before they start to see any exodus scenarios play out.

and yes i love the game.....reviews are the lifeblood for new money for a game as is the launch.....lets all hope they have a few tricks waiting to be played very quickly

Care to explain how would that hurt a B2P game that has no monthly fee nor subscribers numbers?

Jeez if we start to get "The game is dying" threads even HERE, well it's better if Vlad just pushes the button and we just do a CLEAR SAVE for the western societies...

fans we are, realists we are, time to start getting this handled as it should have been long 4 months ago.perspective is subjective sir...add something pertinent to the discussion about moving forward....and as a community we can begin to move toward what we need more of in the game

Get a grip and stop your whining. It's boring. People were right to shout it down then, and they are right now.

seriously...ok

1 new sales...gives the developer the ability to continue producing content
2 reviews and game launch are the biggest bite at the sales pie games usually get
3 exodus scenario's are when accounts players start to leave on more then expected ratio

i never said the game is dying please dont put words in my mouth.

look forward to you starting to discuss on its points rather then troll

I agree with you, its not the story, because the story is really good! And no we are not special snow flakes that need handholding, on the contrary.
Maybe the best way to explain many of the concerns, even if they have a different origin, it brings us back to the interaction with the game AND other players.

Don't misunderstand me, I LOVE Elite, I want it to be the game I'm looking for. I also see the potential for the game in the future. So FD should look at the many posts with a filter, look at the frustration from people who want the game to be good, and that is why they are very vocal in these days where we all are on vacation.

FD did a fantastic job until now, I really enjoy the game and the stability of the game. With all that said there is still an emptiness in the game. Not because of the story, as I said, nothing wrong with the story, Its the small details that make you believe or not.

Tower communication:

Just hit request docking and you get a pad number? Sorry please make it more like I am actually docking a huge space station, add holding patterns and some personal message, they can do it in DCS so it must also be possible here in ED.

Communication Between players:
Make it possible to communicate to all at a certain frequency, make a radio with different choices.

Missions:
Make them more alive, not just some TEXT in a brown box, I've been feeding hungry kids all day, and all the can say (write) is the same story.
Sorry my imagination only goes so far. Please add some vocal mission explanations.

The News:
The news we got now are great, no problem, however on a longer term, please consider something with some kind of footage.
I've added an example, how it can be done, this is not the only way you can do it in many ways.

Thank you for a great game, and I hope we will see some of this during next year, merry christmas and happy new year.

I wasn't comparing the two. obviously they are about as far away from one another as any two games can be, save being sci-fi, and that is a good thing. I was attempting to illustrate a similarity between the two titles with respect to their shallow narrative/social elements and a growing opinion within the industry that it's perfectly ok for games to be officially released before much of their content has been filled out. I also imagine the devs would like their game to be successful and enjoyed by as many people as possible.

I find the propensity to label people as whiners, mainstream, hardcore etc. to be ridiculous and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. We are people who enjoy games. We are impressed by ED and want to see it become something more than it is. The idea that games no longer have to be feature/content complete on release is foolishness. Obviously additional content should be added post release, but I consider an official release to be just that. Happy Hunting!
