LHS 3447

I really like those looong supercruise travels. Gives you plenty of time to smoke, make coffee and take a leak if you must.
Or if you absolutely must sit in front of your screen the whole time, use it for meditation. Or read a book. You know those funny little things with symbols printed all over the paper on the inside.
Or Alt-Tab out of the game and go to the forums to read useless complaints in every second or so thread. Sorry. I'm just sick of these posts.
I don't really want tar in my lungs, I don't drink tea or coffee, I do read - I just finished disc world novel 4 but I do not read whilst playing games. I also made this thread whilst travelling there.

I wouldn't count this as a complaint - More a notification about a bad dropout point.

I started in LHS 3447. After turning two missiosn in there, and then getting my Eagle from another station there, I left and never looked back. No way was I going to keep traveling that far just to get to my home station.

Because of that, I now also check every system to make sure that if it's a multi-star system, that the spay-stay is at the star I'm jumping to, or I don't go there unless I'm just passing through.

I don't mind having systems like this in the game but having it as the starter system for so many people probably wasn't the smartest idea Frontier had at launch.

I will avoid the system at all costs but sometimes I need animal meat and/or wine and thats the only place near it

Gliese is indeed the larger star of the two.

But LHS 3447 is indeed the greater populated star of the 2

This is my problem with it. Starter systems should be selected to give new users an easy beginning, having a long SC in your first home system is not going to help with that all important, first session impact.

Really? Your defending a game mechanic that's encourages you to alt-tab out of and browse the internet because it drags on with nothing to do for so long.
I'm just sick of useless replies to reasonable threads.

I agree with the sentiment but not necessarily with the case in point. LHS 3447 has a lot going for it in terms of missions for faction status and the general availability of goods. Add to that a long SC time and new players get a chance to fiddle with the controls... not a chance, more of an urge let's say. And even then, once you've tired of it you don't have to go back if you really don't want to. I'd summarise LHS 3447 (my own starting system btw) as a good choice. Of course, your mileage may vary... and being that opinions are like stars, everyone has one close to them.

You have to remember space is big. It's incredibly mind boggling big. Yet I can travel 200 light years from Earth in less time than it takes to get to the station in the next door system. Ayup, those long supercruise trips remind us of how vast space is!

And what makes this long trip even longer is you get up to 514c speed and it starts winding you down. You have no control over it. It would be nice if you could at least maintain that speed. Would make the agonizingly long trip just a little shorter. Or...if it's over 100,000Ls, let us speed up to Hyperspace at least & knock 100,000 of that off in a few seconds. For those of you that have to light up or take a leak...stay in supercruise. For those of us that don't need that, let us hyperdrive and speed the trip up.

Are there any other idiotic systems like this we should avoid?? I'd like to know what the point is of making this distance so long?

If you don't like long trips avoid Alpha Centuri! (6.9+ million LS!)
.
Oh & when the ship hits max speed & then slows down depends on main & reverse engine power.
.
That aside, whilst I agree it's probably not a good choice for a starter system, I don't have a problem with the distance itself. As has been said space is big!, and some planets/stations will be a long way away from the main star.
Could FD make it so we jumped to the nearest star to inhabited places instead? Yea I guess so in some cases at least, but it's not a big deal really.
For those systems pre-mapped you can check out the orbital periods & avoid the long haul systems.

And im sick of Fanboys who pay XX$ to watch the GRASS GROW...hey you can get that for FREE outside ...*facepalm*

Going to Hutton Orbital station at Alpha Centauri will take you about 90 minutes to reach it.

In the meantime you can take a short 1 hour nap or eat or whatever :D

+1 for rep!! Totally agree here!! If you need to smoke...There is an option in the game for that. It's called "Save and Exit". *facepalm too* and add a *smh*.

And just read about Alpha Centauri. Seriously??? 6,900,000Ls to reach it? That's absolutely ridiculous!! I agree space is vast. But man....That is downright ignorant for making the distance that great!! Why can't we hyperjump to it for crying out loud??

I think it was an unusual choice for a starting system (I tried repeated wipes to start somewhere else but 20+ attempts all failed) given the twin star system and that the one with the least stations has the largest mass (theyby the one that pulls you out of warp). I'm suprised they didnt keep the starting locations a bit more simple until new players learnt the ropes and made a bit of easy money.

I am all for this, I started in this system, and try my best to never go back, despite the great trade value many of the stations have. That 10 minute supercruise is just way too big of a pain. I'll stick with the 37Ls-500Ls stations in Eravate. Why can't we just jump to another sun in the same system. The first jump goes to Gliese, then a jump to LHS 3447, then a supercruise to the station. Cuts out 110k Ls and 8-9 of the 10 minutes of supercruise, and stays within lore because you are going from sun to sun

Artificial time sink, so it takes you longer to do stuff.
