Last night at Royal Birkdale, they had to stop play of the Senior Open because they were playing in near darkness.

And this gave me an idea ... if they played golf at night it would make the game harder, more interesting and the players would truly earn the millions they win at each tournament.

I'm not saying play with no lights at all, they'd still need people to pay to watch them play, so when the golfer tees off, have that well lit, but have where they are hitting the ball to, ie the rest of the hole, in total darkness. If they can hit the ball and still get it where they want it to go, then they really are good at it. Where the ball lands on the fairway, put a temporary portable light there, so they can see the ball to hit it, just not see where they are hitting to.

Sport in the dark ... stupid idea? They race the Le Mans 24 hour race in the dark, and no, they don't floodlight the track. I am sure if I do some research, I can find other sports played in the dark.

I'm not a fan of Golf, and I doubt Night Golf would make me a fan, but I'd have total respect if they can play just as well at night as they do during the day.

They could just make the ball and the club shine in the dark. It might actually make it easier to find the balls when they fly into the bushes or into the ponds... Of course, the golfers might have difficulty seeing the ponds and they could fall/drive right in when going for the balls... So why not light up the ponds as well with some underwater light bulbs - it might even look great!

Even more exciting might be if they turned it into some sort of "sport" where not only accuracy but also speed matters (like the skiing stuff where they occasionally stop to shoot at targets). Seeing those finely dressed golfers running after their balls while trying not to be hit by the balls of their competitors might actually be rather fun! :)

And it might actually be a permissible tactic to take out your opponents by placing your balls at the backs of their heads while they are running ahead of you...

I like that idea, but why stop at balls? RollerGolf! With spiked golfclubs. The opponents hack chunks off each other whilst Sky's version of Toccata plays in the background.

This exists with luminous balls, or it did in the 90s

In The Netherlands they have golf games on cowlands...

So no neatly plains and fingernail polished greens.

Never done it so I don't know if it is any fun. Just teed of a few balls on a real golfcourse and the only thing I was getting out of that was extreme muscle pains in arms, legs, back so basically my whole body. So... not really my sport either.

One way to make golf more interesting is to learn the art of the 'golf snooze'. If you nod off during the boring bits, it really helps.

What do you mean that's all of it?!

You could always place gunboats on the lake, rename it Golf of Oman and launch Tomahawk missiles at anyone making provocative gestures with nine iron.

I had this fantastic golf ball.....

It would glow in the dark so you could see it..

if you whistled a certain tune it would send out a high pitched noise enabling you to locate it...

If it dropped in water it would then float to the surface...

I would show you a picture but I lost it :D

Let me guess, it could defy gravity, propel itself through the air and had a homing beacon ... but not to your home? :D

I'd nominate Leslie Nielson's "Bad Golf" videos - "Bad Golf Made Easier", "Bad Golf My Way" and "Stupid Little Golf Video" as the first step to make golf more interesting.
