She might as well be saying "friendship drive garging" or "landing gear retracteted

I actually started a serious thread about my "Friendship Drive" not working.
Its only when a Mod changed the title to Frameshift Drive" and pointed out my error that I realised what I had written, I felt such a fool and wondered what made me call it such a ridiculous name until I next played and realised why "Friendship Drive" was stuck in my brain.

She sounds crystal clear to me. As to the tone of the voice, that is sort of a personal preference. Perhaps you need to adjust your sound system or invest in better speakers/headphones? I'm just saying. :)

Ahh so, to defend FD's choices, you're saying it must be my THX certified Soundblaster chip and my $300 Sennheisers that suck? Or the active, bi-amped KRK V8 studio monitors (which are used by musicians and sound engineers to mix music) that my computer is hooked up to?

Then how come the previous voice sounded perfectly clear over the same equipment?

You mean to say the over-loud gunshot sound after dropping out of super cruise has busted my speakers and headphones and that explains the difference? I should double check that to be sure...

As for personal preference: sure, some people prefer girls with cold, harsh voices and sketchy pronunciation. Besides masochists, there's probably other groups of people I can't think of right now.

I think it would be awesome to have a choice, like in the option settings of what voice to use. Having a selection will not hurt.

it does sound like friendship drive garrling to me as well.

However...I couldnt care less either way.

I am not playing 'computer voice simulator'

You could say that about any number of the small parts of the game that together synthesize into an overall experience.
Out of those, the ship's computer voice is always there, significantly influencing your experience in the direction of the emotion stored up in that voice.

I didn't buy a truck driving simulator either, but I'm forced into doing it, cause you can't make sufficient credits for larger ships with any of the other activities.

It's a computer. Computers aren't warm and pleasant. They're machines.
Utter nonsense.

Machines have no leaning to warm or cold, pleasant or unpleasant. They simply do what we program them to do, i.e. what voice we record for them.

My guess is they needed to increase the repertoire of the computer voice, and the original VO star was missing or unavailable. I would pay for a voice pack from the original VO lady (hint, FD? monetize this!).

Here is an idea. They should sell voice packs, just like you can do with Tom toms for car sat Nav. I personally would prefer a red dwarf ship computer. This one feels to business like and way serious, wouldn't take her out in a date, that's for sure...

I think you figured out why they replaced the good computer voice with a bad one: So there be reason to buy voice packs!

I think its a great idea, since ship paint jobs you can't see outside the fitting screen isn't going to keep their business afloat or Amazon's server bills paid.

Let there be:

- voice packs
- custom cockpits
- camera drones (for external views and screen shots)
- space ship sound packs (so we can replace the nasty satanic sounds from the Hauler)
- custom hyper jump animations (ala music visualizer packs, to get rid of 'witch space')

In FD's cash store

Well, ok, I think your explanation is more plausible, but less catchy ;-)

I started a thread about this in beta. They went from pre-recorded actual human voice to completely computer generated.

I would prefer the old voice back - it really was nicer sounding to me. The limitation is that if new voice responses are needed then you have to bring the actor back. Computer generated ones allow them to change, modify and extend them on the fly.

I support the call for voice packs. I would happily support FD with some more money if we could have different voice packs to choose from.

Yes! I want to buy the voicepack of Gilbert Gottfried having a bad day.

I swear, after a couple dozen runs between stations the computer seems to switch to some German accent:

"Docking se cesspool".

They must have really looked for someone with a slang and totally unclear pronounciation. The first version i heard in Beta wasn't understandable at all for a non-native English speaker. "Laanding gate ploid". At least it was cheap.

I'm okay with the tone. Makes me feel like my wife is in game with me. ;p

I want the Summer Glau voice pack, with that calm voice, when the life support module dies:

"You're afraid. You're afraid we will all die, gasping for air. But don't worry, that's not going to happen. We'll freeze to death first."

Bobbleheads first! Then we can talk about voice packs.

I'd like a Guardians of the Galaxy voicepack with Groot voicing the computer. Every feedback from the computer should be "I am Groot" with very subtle changes in tone. Yes? Anyone? Anyone...? Ok, maybe not...
