Misleading stations

Why do stations say they export a good and when you have jumped 4 times and burnt all that fuel and arrived, they DON'T sell it?

Why?

I made a thread about this and the consensus was that it's because the game is bugged and that part doesn't work.

I strongly suggest you physically dock to verify availability, prices, and demand. It is not unreasonable that an item listed as an export has all been exported by the time you get there, especially at a busy station. Come back tomorrow :)

Depends on the size of supply.

my home station has supplies of certain things in the 00,000s. if I docked one day and found no supply then I'd think bug.

If on other hand a supply is typically in the 00s or low 000s then it's perfectly possible that supply fluctuation mean at certain times there is none available

Not so much bugged as that the System Map descriptions are intentionally generic. They're not MEANT to be a reliable guide except for rough categories.

You HAVE to have the current trade data to know what's actually being traded today, either by buying it or going there. The market screen will show what's actually being exported and imported locally.

It could also be a different station in the system that sells what you're looking for, if you're using the galaxy map or trade info in the commodities market. Have you checked that?

Don't listen to the people trying to rationalize it. The trade lines are broken and thus completely unreliable. At best, all they tell you is that a system has a slightly higher likelihood of trading what you are looking for. They are especially messed up with the often illegal commodities like battle weapons or combat stabilizers. Best just to search the forums for a known supplier for those.

My method for trading is to pick a few likely systems near each other and get to know them first hand. I don't buy trade data and I almost never use the trade routes on the map. Once you find a good trade route you can grind away until your eyes bleed if you want.

This. It's not hard to find good trade routes without using either in game or 3rd party trade tools.

All the trade data given ingame is unreliable, to avoid saying bugged/pointless.

My main trading UI in E: D is this:

i started searching trade routes without tools after too much problem with the ingame tools which do not give enough or wrong information (high demand/supply?) and 3rd party tools that do not cover all systems and have wrong data too (maybe they get trolled? "i dont want others to go for that route so lets just put that wrong number there"?)

when i see my current route profit fall too much i go search another one - sometimes this can take a few hours of exploring but the result is a trade route with both ways ~1400 cr/t :) and the good feeling that i achieved that without help - another advantage is that one can go for zones where no or just a few human players are around so the chance of screwed markets is smaller

edit: to get max profit a good combination is dealing between a hightech and extraction system (consumer tech/ progenitor cells <-> gold/beryllium) - resonating seperators, performance enhancers, land enrichment system, auto-fabricators are good too - tobacco can be nice but its not easy to find high demand

To be clear:

I was after Personal weapons, I found a system with these shown as trade route out of it. In the system map the only station selling was listed as selling Personal weapons, it did not sell Personal weapons. Even if it did and had ran out it would still show them listed in the market at zero stock, they were not listed in the market. Reactive armour was as was non leathal weapons, they were at zero stock, in fact not sold at all but listed as low demand.

It is broken, no doubt at all about that. The system view often claims stations sell items that they do not or the trade routes show items exporting from a system that has the same items listed as illegal.

BUSTED.
