Ship Selling nonsense

I thought i should share that knowledge with others because it made me literally say ...

When you buy a new ship, and you have to sell the old ship together with the upgrades you have bought for it, you have less money in the end, instead downgrading and selling all upgrades and then selling that ship leaves you with more, although its not that much (I guess it depends on the ships Upgrade costs) in my case it were about 700k

After purchasing gear for ships, we should be allowed to strip and store the gear. Being forced to sell gear already bought was a bad choice. Maybe that 1.5 mil FSD I bought could be stored so when I upgrade my ship, I can use it. Instead FD uses this mechanic as a grind sink to give them time to add content.

Yes.. it seems like the new ships you buy also lose 10% of its value when you sell them again, upgrades seem to be included so it makes sense selling them before selling the ship itself.. it also makes me upset that i cant buy cheaper upgrades in the founders system, i sold a FSD for its full price from another station, and now my only option is to buy it back for 5.1 million, and the cheaper one for 4,5 isnt available because of the buy-back option in the list

Umm...unless I'm missing something the game doesn't force you to sell any ship to purchase another. If you would look there are two options when you go to purchase a new ship. Purchase and store your current ship or sell the current ship and modules.

Yup, thats right, i didnt say that you are forced to, i only wanted to warn people who do sell their ship for another one, or if they simply sell it

Why is there no option to SELL A SHIP? I got 2 Sidewinders because of a need to start over after destroying 1 Eagle & 2 Cobras I owned. Why is it assumed I need to TRADE IN? I could use the extra money and do not need to visit a ship for a sale surely?

You can sell any ship that is in storage at your current location. You don't need to trade it in for a new one.

I have not tried to sell a ship yet, but I think it would be a great feature to have a transfer modules screen so you can quickly and easily decide to either transfer your compatible upgraded modules or just sell them before signing for the new ship. Or just apply the market price of those upgrades as credit towards the purchase price of the new ship.

Different ships different parts. You can't take the transmission from a semi truck and stick it in a VW.

IRL: If you Pimp Your Ride then you can sell the Pimples on Ebay before selling the GlamFree (old bits stuck on with tape) Ride. You need to do this if you want to get back more of what you invested in OooShiny

Sometimes you can find someone who'll be Dazzled by your Taste to sell the whole thing (fluffy bits inc) to.

Maybe FD will introduce similar inGame so that the experienced Upgrader will be able to offer
'That Special Cobra That You've Always Wanted!' :D
(but could never be bothered hunting for all the bits for).

I like sell or downgrade modules as i can rebuy old modules on New ship and i can save a fair bit of credits and that savings go up as the ships and modules get more and more expensive.
160k saved on a module that costed you 1.6mill and it adds up fast.

I'd just like to add that being able to store stuff in station also opens up the possibility for player created missions. Lets say I have a 'home base' where I hoard all my modules and ships, would be so cool to be able to post a mission on the bulletin board so another player could move some of my stuff to me if I'm far from home. Same applies for ships, I'm far from 'home' and kind of set up a 2nd base somewhere, would be great to post a mission for a player to fly one of my ships to me. Of course the missions would have collateral based on the goods and ships value so people couldn't just keep the stuff.

I remember thinking about module storage months ago when I read about storing ships. Seems logical to be able rent some storage space. More logical than storing ships :)

EDIT: Thanks for the tip about downgrading before selling a ship. Good to know.

This is true to life - if you buy an old car off e-bay, then strip it for parts and then re-sell the parts on e-bay you will get many times the amount you paid for the complete car for the parts.

I guess it's a bit like selling a car. Overall they depreciate in value massively but strip it down and sell it piecemeal and some components will hold their value better.

Actually, its different:

1) because you are forced to sell your modules, you get back 100% of the price on modules. Only ships are limited to 90%

2) if you sell your modules together with the ship, you loose 10% on all.

3) if you sell your modules separately by trading down to class E versions, you loose nothing on the modules.

4) once you bought your new ship, the modules you sold before during that visit are available to buy back, even if they are not normally available in that station.
