Game is too CRUEL

Just got my Type 7. Filled with cargo and I get interdicted for the first time on my trade route, EVER! Master Viper, destroys my modules, I'm stuck. Yes I had shields.

Not enough credits for insurance. Back to Sidewinder with 2900 cr.

Maybe my own fault but still... too painful. Leaving the game. Be a warning to others - time sink and every minute can be wiped in the blink of an eye. Was playing since Beta... and I refuse to waste more time. FD, you have a problem here... not that you care and probably wont see the post. I've done nothing but praise this game, I still love it, but not with this in the back of my mind. I would have rather spent some quality time with my wife. Not going back to the Sidewinder which is now starring me in the face!

Simply not worth playing anymore. Good bye CMDR's

Well, at least it wasn't an Asp this time.

Bad luck Cmdr. But it serves as a sage reminder to others to never ever ever put so many of your eggs in the basket that you are flying without insurance.

Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. Play this game for fun, not to actually achieve something, because you don't achieve anything. It's a game. A passtime. If you worked hard to amass credits and a big ship, and get upset at losing it again, you're doing it wrong.

[...]Maybe my own fault[...]

Not maybe. Definitely. If you've been playing since Beta, you knew about the insurance mechanics and that it's a bad idea to get greedy, especially when you just bought a new ship. This may have been overquoted and it may have come from EVE, but in these cases it's always true: Never fly, what you can't afford to lose.

Insurance is there to prevent this.

Deciding to fly without the cost to cover it is your fault. How would FD "fix" this, it's one of the few things working correctly right now :p

Learned that one early, jumped straight from the COBRA to the ASP as well by passing the heavies - those haulers are cannon fodder.
If I get jumped it's just boost spam away, nothing npc that can catch me can go toe to toe with my loadout.....yet

You live and learn.
The famous quote: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

Always assume the worst will happen, don't risk it.

If you want to quit the game, then so be it. I hope you enjoy an easier game.

So you had all that money and no cushion to pay for the insurance to buy a replacement? You took the risk, its your fault my friend. No sympathy..

But here is some inspiration for you

BTW.. What the difference between 'quality time' and normal time? I never did understand that. :p

Maybe another option FDev can add to the ever growing options list is for your credits to be displayed with insurance excess already removed (a "Show spendable credits" option). It's not hard to keep an eye on it, but it can be a bit inconvenient when outfitting your ship to leave the outfitting screen to check your excess.

Or maybe part of what it takes to be Elite is the ability to manage your finances!

Now, I may sound condescending, but it is your own fault, especially since you play since beta, have followed the forums and knew that something like this could happen, has happen and will likely happen again, because people fly out, but don't think they need enough credits to cover their insurance and a bit extra for trading.

This unsafe playstyle will be punished and punished quite severly in this game and this is, I believe, know to almost all that play since beta, though in beta it didn't matter as much, as you knew wipes where incoming anyway.

But you know, there are other games, that can punish you for your risk, in the Diablo series, for example, if you chose to play a hardcore character that will mean permadeath after dieing once, no means of even building up insurance to cushion the blow, you make one mistake and possibly hundreds of hours on one character are gone.

If you don't like Elite to be this punishing, only buy what you can afford the insurance for and don't put all your eggs in one basket. You made the choice to gamble, because you believe everything is safe, it isn't in ED.

Sorry to hear that and I feel for your loss. However, if you've been playing since Beta (regardless if Premium or Standard) and still didn't learn the first and most basic Elite rule "Don't fly what you can't afford"... Well, this is your own fault, Commander. Back to Pilots Academy, do your homework and start again :)

Hi GitFace, totally sympathise with you, I am on my 5th Death so far, luckily I have had insurance (I do fly missions without it like everyone does, with cheeks clenched and fingers crossed), but even still, death is harsh in this game, yesterday I almost killed an Anaconda in my Cobra but I got carried away and crashed into him and died! I had over 100K worth of bounties sat unclaimed, some missions and some cartography, lost it all! Doh! I had a pang of 'Ragequit' but as others have said I actually enjoyed it, it was a great battle and a funny although dissapointing death, my 2 kids were watching and were equally dissapointed that I killed myself whilst on the verge of defeating an Anaconda, my wife like yours was pulling faces of disapproval as she hates my playing games, but if I wasn't playing Elite, I would be sat twiddling my thumbs as she would be reading her book or watching Downton!

We all have gaming guilt, don't worry its normal, sure you have wasted years of your life playing stupid computer games, god knows I have, I will no doubt contemplate this on my death bed, but its been fun and its kept you out the pub. Tell you what, just limit your gaming to 2 hours a day? You will feel better for it.

To be honest it makes the game more exciting knowing you can lose everything, its more life like! I have insurance up the ying yang in real life don't you? I do try to ensure I have my insurance covered most of the time, but I can see that you stretched yourself to a new ship and filled the cargo hold up as one does to maximise profit, easily done and most runs you will never get Interdicted, but on that fateful day....well, anyway, if I could transfer some game credits to you to boost you back a bit I would, but a Hauler is only $50K once you have that you can start pulling the credits back in, maybe this time get the Adder instead?

If you let it, this game corals you into a place where one mistake and you lose EVERYTHING. I can't think of any other games that do that.

I've found myself taking chances in my Asp after death, you lose so much in credits and it takes so many trade runs to recover that, its really tempting to max your profits and go without insurance for a few runs. Done it a few times, too many actually, knowing full well what I'm doing but thinking this is bloomin stupid.

It's hard not to. 10 grindy trade runs or only 2 without insurance.... your choice. =/ In the end you could argue the actual issue is that trading's not very much fun, it's just a means to an end for most and when you're looking at risking no insurance to avoid another 2 hours of back and forth too many will try the shortcut.
