Where is everyone?

I've been flying around Sol and the nearby stars for more than a week now, but I rarely see another commander.
Neither in Supercruise mode, nor at the stations or different locations. I play from Europe, usually from 21:00 GMT.
I cannot believe this region is so empty, there must be something off.

How many players do you usually see around here?

Same here, I popped into SOL Yesterday in open play... Not a real soul to be found. Sometimes I think you have to friend request other commanders for this to work.

We could test it out. See my sig and send a friend request if you want to.

Centering myself on Achenar in Empire space at the moment, mostly going no further than 100Ly, however once the Asp is kitted I'm off for a wander ... errr. .thattaway

I was in Sol for a few days last week and saw a fair number of Cmdrs in passing - then moved on to the founders system.
I've not seen you online yet, I'm one time zone behind you but often on line in the evening (which is how we met in beta !)

Don't forget that Space is big and we're all only playing for a few hours from different time zones.

@Korenwolf

You know, I think we should start a 'Wolf Pack' group. There seems to be enough of us to make it a formidable group. :D

Everyone has switched to solo mode or group play cause they are scared of pirates, The end of ED for alot of ppl is soon to come.

Pft.

I have exclusively played open since pre launch. Seeing other players doesn't seem very consistent yet. I'll sometimes some 6+ other players in a system, and the next time zero in same system.

Maybe FD are still calibrating their matching protocols?

I believe some people are dramatically overestimating how much the fear or pirates or griefers or xenomorphs infesting your ship and laying icky in your bellies is causing players to go solo or private.

Each time i go to Sol i see a few commanders, every single time, no probleme there, i bump into people here and there around Sol but further away it becomes very hard to find anyone indeed. But stations iirc show the player traffic for the last 24h, in Sol it's above 6000.

Where i am, i'm the only one showing up, on the frontier of human space.

Everyone must be playing solo.
I was playing online for a little, but as i'm trying to raise credits for good ship, weapons etc.. i discovered that when trading, solo is better for one main reason.

Docking isn't as crowded... no more "docking denied"

when online i sometimes had to wait 10 - 15 minutes to dock at some stations.

Sure thing, I'll friend you if I don't forget it :) You know, I did see some of my friends online, but even then they were the only commanders around.

We've already got a group, if you're interested playing together, you're welcome to join: http://relentless-guild.com/

I wouldn't mind having to wait for a docking bay to become available, I'm in no rush and it adds to the realism for me.

When logging back in open you're forced in solo for a while, so you could use that with stations. jumping to another system puts you into open. Try escape to see in which mode you're in.

Also, i'm very surprised station docking queues are such a problem, jump 1 or 2 systems away and there's no longer a problem. There are many proffitable trade routes to be found, you dont have to keep using the same ones as others.

And waiting at a station is not a bug, it's part of the game.

People have quit the game. After a week of play, the smart ones have realized its an exercise in pure repetition.

Honestly I believe there is a bug with the match-making process.

People on my friends list, I see without issue. This would rule out routers/P2P networking (unless by sods' law, everyone on my friends list is magically compatible - A possibility, I suppose).

However, it's lonely out there with very, very, few commanders in systems that have seen 15,000+ sidewinders in the last 24 hours. You'd expect them to be teeming with life. Of the non-NPC variety.

I hope that wings are not a patch around this... random player interactions and the ability to "team-up" in an ad-hoc manner is what makes MMOs great.

They are there... They are just skulking away in Bubble Wrap mode...... The multiplayer aspect of this game has been broken by that

Have some reputation for that.

Besides the boring nature of the game it completely fails deliver just a single benefit by being "always online". This would have been A LOT better as a single player game with modding than this boring game with a useless and broken multiplayer part that forces us to be always online and effectively makes modding impossible.

And on top of that I won't even get a refund for this... Thanks FEDV!

Yeah, I think that network upnp dark magic thread that's somewhere around here is evidence of that. Ah, found it: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=87388

I myself am in a private group with friends, because otherwise it's hit and miss to do things together, and friends trump randoms. As for location, I'm at least 160 ly from Sol. Why would anyone go into Federation space of their own volition is beyond me, but then again, I am an Empire sympathizer ;)

Very smart, but think logically. For a lot of new commanders Sol was the starting system, they are familiar with it, so most of them are nearby. Also, those who were playing from the beginning wants to see Sol for once at least.

And hey, it's Sol. You know, our very own solar system. It's a tourist attraction, it's the most familiar place, it's Home.
