Jettison vs Jetisson (Abandon) Cargo

Will abandoning goods make them appear as not stolen when other players scoop them up?

If so, could this be a potential negotiation tool towards pirates to abandon the goods and therefore making the pirates life a little easier by increasing his profits (due to it not being stolen and no need to go to a black market), while in return he will call off the attack on you and therefore saving you insurance costs or loss of further cargo.

I myself have only come accross a single CMDR pirate who was not succesfull at taking me out, so i don't know how CMDR pirates are viewing towards this or even if they care about this?

I'd personally ask for half of what id normally ask for if abandoned assuming it's still not listed as stopen that is...haven't tested this.

Abandoned goods don't count as stolen.

It's an interesting thought, though the pirate doesn't really have time to verify whether it's abandoned or not. Maybe you could get away with negotiating to drop less cargo, but if I were holding you up I'd value abandoned as less than double stolen, as I know the relative value to you!

First you'd have to be negotiating with an actual pirate and not some ganker out for blood instead of booty.
But yes I would say it'd be a good negotiation tool.

Thinking about it further and taking all the comments in mind, i feel like it would only be viable as a negotiation tool when faced with a gang of pirates (which will inevitably rise when multiplayer functionality increases) because whilst 1 scoops cargo the others can prevent the trader from running or trying to screw the pirate over by lying about the jetissioned cargo

Why would a player run a valuable cargo through multiplayer space when they can run it solo or group play and avoid player interdiction?
There is no added value to the trader to play multiplayer on value runs unless they look forward to killing some pirates if they are really good at hunting.

So be wary of player interdictions they are likely a great gunner or just made a dumb move and ran a load via multiplayer when they should have run it solo.

This would be a good negotiation tool. You could get away with only dropping half as much as the pirate asked for. Assuming the trader actually did it, I would love to get that offer. Too bad very few traders drop any cargo willingly, let alone actually try to negotiate how much they drop.

Maybe some people like challenge and don't want to play exclusively with the brain dead AI.

This is the problem with this game. It removes a key threat to your well being and both modes should be separate... You h a 've solo char and online char with individual wallets each

Honestly - because player interdiction is not a significant enough threat to make me even consider going to solo. The number of player pirates is simply too low to make the chance of interdiction by a player a major factor when I'm trading.

Making it separate would only mean more players would NEVER touch open play.

Yeah I probably play more open play because I can switch at will.
Open play will probably get a big boost when they do more for groups and multi groups
open group missions where a large number of players can join in to stop a threat to a station would be a cool mission
