Doing Navy missions makes me unfriendly with Federation

Ok, so I decided to move on with my Navy ranks from "Petty Officer" to "Chief Petty Officer". ok....
So I was issued a mission to kill 3 pirates in a specific system.
I bought a Viper (since I'm in a Type 6) just for this purpose..mkay?
So, I went out and I killed :
1. Python
2. Asp
3. Dropship.

Each counted as a "pirate", as I watched the counter in the mission dispay.

So I go back the originating place of the mission (Mokosh).

I click the thing in the bulletin board to complete it
And I get the "Chief Petty Officer" rank along with...

The Federation becoming unfriendly, along with several stations in the near systems. :S :S :S

I decide not to play this game until a patch arrives to address these problems (along with police firing at me for no reason)

I know, someone is gonna come and explain, that this is a feature and I'm playing the game wrong.

I never had any bad federation reputation loss on my path to Post Commander. You sure you didnt accidently shoot on someone else as well? The pirate missions tend to include system authority ships.

I've lost rep with federation corps and orgs before for hunting pirates in their system during promotion missions, but if the orders come from the top to do the deed in said system, the deed will get done... Maybe we're all actually working for that "Shadow President" I hear so much about. (and by so much, I mean the few shoutouts in the twitter-esque news feed at stations.) The mission should clearly state where rep will be gained or lost. Unless it can't cause each NPC pilot is affiliated with some NPC corp and sometimes a pirate belongs to the federation? I dunno. Go read the manual, maybe there's something in there about it. I just shoot stuff and if my rep drops, grind a bunch of missions to get back in favor with them. :)

Maybe the federation becoming unfriendly with you is to represent the corrupt federation officials that used the pirates for their own nefarious means and you scuttled them...

:p

I thought about that. Since it's the "Black Ops" giving me the missions.

Re: "Shadow President"

In the UK we have the Shadow Cabinet, basically it means the majority opposition in parliament - it's not some secret organisation.

In real life the "Shadow President" is this guy

Go for the Empire, they're not nitpicks like the Feds.

I went to the Empire tonight, 180ly round trip, had to get some combat stabilizers for a Fed mission. Was quite nice, not at all what I expected. Might move there when I retire from the Navy. They have pretty space ships too :)

I've had two Empire promotion missions that caused me to loose a little bit of rep as well. One was an assassination mission, and the other was a pirate hunting mission. The assassination one even caused me to get an Empire bounty.

Investigating says the other thread...

Though it's worth pointing out that every ship belongs to a faction, and factions can be aligned to one of the superpowers. Shoot one of their ships down and you get a bad rep.

I've done a lot of bounty hunting in federation space and recently started visiting Empire space. I'm unfriendly with a lot of the factions here.

Ah I see. I guess it's the good ole "Party in power vs. the Party out of power" and every few years they change sides.

I was kinda hoping this:

But I guess that's more... Imperial. ;)
