new to the game

What do you want to know? Have you played the tutorials?
Yes you're doing it right!
What aspect of the game do you want to enjoy? Personally I love blowing up pirates and trading.
To start with it could be an idea on doing the training exercises and progress from there. Do a little trading and a bit of combat, see what you like most of and take it from there..
Please try the training first, in the long run it pays off big time.

what system are you in?
You will start the game with 1000 credits. It does help people to know where you are because if they are close they may be able to help you

Top tips:
- Learn how to assign power to the different systems. I'm constantly changing the power setup of my ship, this is one of the most important aspects of flying, especially if you are going in to a fight.
- Do a couple of (legal) station missions under 'Bulletin Board' to get your feet wet.

Ahoy there Commander MrEv0 and welcome aboard. May I suggest, if you haven't already, checking out the official FD video tutorials on Youtube here
That's a good place to start, along with the Single Player Tutorials in the game, and also the newly released manual (there's a link in the ED game launcher).
Once you've given those a good going over, then there are plenty of really good groups here on the forums that have players willing to help guide and tutor you through your first tentative steps into the big wide galaxy!
Have fun learning and don't give up sir, the learning curve is fairly steep, but the rewards are plentiful!

If you look at the left UI (shift+A) scroll through the tabs at the top with Q and E, goto the Navigation tab and select the system map.
You'll see all the planets, stations etc in the system you're in, click on one and it should tell you if it has things like outfitters (for weapons and ship modules), shipyard (for hmm ships) commodity market for trading etc. Every station should offer you missions though.
The Bulletin Board is in the home menu of space stations. Go here to pick up various simple missions to gain reputation and cash for those lasers.

When you are docked at a station or outpost you should see 3 selections. Enter Hanger, Launch, and Station Services. Select Station Services then select Bulliten Board. You will see the available missions there.

you are just around the corner from me MrEv0. Have fun in battles and check out LHS 3447 for the market prices so you can trade. there is a nice little earner in the plannets around 3447 so try doing a little trade there
