First Encounter with a Dropship

So I'm on my way to Mizar (about 150LY trip), and doing some exploring along the way to earn some basically "free" credits. No sooner did I lock onto my next "unknown", I get interdicted - by a Dropship. Granted, the NPC was "mostly harmless", but it was a fun fight. I cut out some of the more "boring" parts, since the fight went on for probably 6-7 minutes. I'm running two fixed beam lasers and a rail gun on my Eagle.

Nice! I got interdicted by a mostly harmless clipper last night - took me ages to take him down in my Cobra with 3x beam lasers.
How do you find the railgun for damage?

Clippers give me more trouble than Dropships do. The former are a lot more maneuverable than the stats in the shipyard would imply, while the latter flounders about and turns like a bathtub full of bricks.

It does quite nicely when their shields are down. For instance, in the vid, a near-miss on the targeted power system brought it down from 78% to 65%. Later, a good placement brought it from 52% to 39%. Against smaller ships, it will tear up the hulls like crazy...but I still use my twin beam lasers for most of the work, as I don't like paying for ammo even though it's a necessary evil for projectile weapons.

lol.. and I was about to test railguns on my Cobra in exchange for my multis. After seeing your vid I will probably not. They do literally NO damage.. wtEf?

Nice takedown anyway. I have yet to try out my frEagle.

Well, the Eagle only has small hardpoints for weapons, so I only have D1 railgun. Not sure what the Cobra has...but a class-2 size should do more damage than a class-1 size.

I used the same technique against a Clipper this morning... riding along its belly, unfortunately for me, my shields were down and the clipper pulled up and either went in reverse or pulled a quick stop. Either way, my little sidewinder couldn't stop in time, and I bumped his belly.

The last thing I remembered was the power went out to all my systems, the UI shut down, and I hear "Eject! Eject! Eject!"

That's what I get for trying to rush "Just one more mission" before work.

Ah well.

Back in the saddle tonight!
