Multiple saved games , how do you get them?

My son wants to play with his own commander but it seems we can only save one game, is there any way to save two games and if not how long until we can as I don't really want to spend another £40 for a extra license unless I really have too?

thanks

It doesn't affect me, but I'm inclined to agree - however, that's the way of it at the moment.

Which is 1 reason I will not spend another penny on ED until we get at least 3 Cmdrs for free, if they had done the off line version like we were promised we could have had as many as we wished.

It's not like it would take a massive change or be that hard to program

Was always talked of as being on the cards, so hopefully will still be, and hopefully fairly top of the list. Would be very handy for when you have an explorer, as heading out into the big black can be very samey, and to push any interesting distance, you lock yourself into that for some time as it would take ages to get back - it would allow you to pop on to a second character for a bit of trading, shooting, seeing people, just to mix it up some!

Plenty of games I've bought multiple copies of, but that's for simultaneous play by more than one player (eg the Call of Duty games), for asynchronous play where folks take turns, I do think a game shouldn't insist on two copies. So here's hoping for news, and good news at that, once the holiday time is over!

One character is perhaps reasonable in a game with a campaign that lasts 8 hours: you finish the campaign, then start with a new character if you want.

But in a game which is essentially open-ended, in which you can invest hundreds (if not thousands) of hours, having only one player save is ridiculous. I regard it as a major omission, which I hope will be remedied shortly.

I too think one should get more than one character, each one having to start from start. This is so I can play the pirate when I want without destroying the rank/rep building of my primary character.

Having characters for each family member is something I feel less entitled to, although I would welcome it and use it for my son. I would also use it to promote the game to friends by letting them have a go on a fresh commander.

IIRC there will be 3 saves in the future. When, I have no idea but I recall seeing it mentioned, and am pretty sure it was from a dev.

Throwing my voice in with the "give us more CMDR slots" crowd. Especially considering the existence of Solo/Open modes. I want to play one in Solo, and one in Open.
