The gods do cheat!

I just had an interesting experience...

As I currently try to befriend the Alliance, I visited an outpost at G 123-49 (or was it SOBEK?) in order to deliver some stuff.

We all know the annoying "docking denied" waiting line (especially with larger ships as my Asp) and I patiently flew closer to landing pad 03, watching a commander in a Phyton minding his business. I do not remember his name, but he had a wired extension in [...] brackets). You know, a Phyton is always nice to look at and said commander did me the favor of granting me a looong look, as he didn't enter the station, but stayed at the station's surface.

But then, he took of..... WHOOOOO! WHAT???

No slow descending into the station in order to rotate the pad, no Sir!
He just took of the pad instantly and turned his ship 2x180° into his desired direction.

Did I write 'turned'? No, he WHIRLED his ship (do you remember: a Phyton!) two times 180° (pitching and rolling) in the opposite direction in about one second! Remember the trailer? It was just like this, but from standstill! (Don't nail me on the timing, but it was definitely faster than I have ever seen a ship turn, not even an Eagle...)

And than woooosh.... he was gone, leaving me behind, rubbing my eyes in disbelieve.

...

I requested docking again, got it granted and chugged onto the pad.
Slowly.
Steadily.
As suited, for us mortals...

But, inevitably when the mundane meets the divine, something remains... an ache for something unrealizable, a hopeless desire...

I WANT ONE OF THESE EXALTED PHYTONS! :D

(Lament: Oh! Shame on you, devs, for teasing us! Shame on you, to show-off with your godlike/cheating powers, leaving us poor players behind with nothing than (virtual) matter and dust...) :( ... ;)

Blasphemy!

Such a god doesn't exist! He is just a made-up by mothers to frighten their misbehaving children!

And no, I don't think so. With the skipped pad-turning and the ship's rotation (which was an awesome peace of pilot-ship, even with a pimped spacecraft, by the way), this would have been a hell of a lag. Never experienced a lag like this before.

Sounds like one helluva client prediction catch up, rare but certainly plausible. The docking access denied is the key here, you were possibly out of sync with the island that you and the player were both were occupying. The player performed those actions you saw in the past and your client had to speed up the process to catch up with real-time.

While watching NPC ships doing the conga cha-cha in supercruise I've come to the belief that the networking architecture behind this game is a kludge that needs a lot of work.

lol just imagine: Two clients in the same instance and this rubbish multiplayer mode already lags out... just lol.
Btw, is it just me or is SOL awfully empty even in peak times? I've been there now for days and I did not see a single commander in open mode. Looks to me that 'open mode' is just some cheap fake to make us think that this game actually is capable of multiplayer!

Are you sure the Python hadn't already been into the hanger and back to surface (already rotated) while checking the system menu to save time?

What you just witnessed was a Pilot.....it comes with practise;) I quite often fly out of a station backwards whilst doing my nails.

Of course I can not counter the lag-argument. I know for sure, however, that the Phyton did not rotate. I watched the whole docking sequence from landing to take-off and there was no descending involved at all and the ship faced towards the landing direction all the time.
