To me this is still beta

why don't y'all settle this like adults, with stock sidewinders, at dawn... at 10 paces?

i mean seriously, there is 0 substance to this thread, nothing constructive other then a well placed flame-bait. those forums keep turning more and more into a trench warfare simulator 2014.. er 2015.

all this bloody sniping at each other. *sigh* i think i'm about to give up, not on the game, mind you i actually enjoy it (in its current stage, no less) and i im all out of popcorn to watch this mess. i think i rather go change my two year old's diaper, its bound to be cleaner (and more productive) then what this forum is becoming anymore. /rant

Kerbal was released three years ago and the first/early versions had a very limited feature set, so don't hold them up as feature complete.

I'm not talking about "Early Access" releases, which in their nature are of course not feature complete. But E: D's release was a final one. It came after an alpha->beta->unusual gamma stage. So it may very well be expected to get something well rounded and feature complete. I don't talk about the planned features for expansions like planet landing that are missing, there are way more basic features missing such as practically everything MMO-related or simple but necessary stuff like relocating ships automatically which i consider pretty self understanding. I also have never got anything near as bug ridden as E: D in any public releases, alpha, beta or otherwise.

Kerbal is still in beta, though. I think the difference is that Kerbal hasn't promised anything it hasn't delivered, nor has it claimed a game is ready for launch when it is not.

I can't disagree that the game is clearly unfinished. The faction/influence system is currently broken. Most of the game mechanics are opaque. Multiplayer barely works, which is a rather critical flaw for a game that is referred to as an MMO. The missions are barely implemented, and there's only like 5 different ones. The AI is half-, at best. There's only a small handful of playable ships and a very small number of modules. The amount of space is huge, but virtually all of it is empty and the bits that aren't empty are all essentially the same. Of course, the fundamentals of the game are fun. The combat is great, the atmosphere/UI (minus the galaxy map, which needs to be thrown away and given another try) is fantastic. There is just very little actual content, which makes it somewhat depressing when you see the developers on YouTube saying that the thing they're most excited to put in the game are FPS mechanics.

spot on.......................

So was WOW at one point, but look at it now.

WoW, on release, had two continents, a level 60 cap, hundreds of unique quests and zones, 12 professions, 9 classes, 16 dungeons, and 2 raids. Now, they had a much larger development team/budget but I don't think you can even put it in the same category as ED.

its a good game as it stands cant wait for the thargoids to arrive and the 1 of the 5 promised ships - the future is Bright

Everyone in the world with half a brain would prefer everything to be in place now, but its not and its going to take time and theres nothing we can do about it. The game is release ready. Its far from finished.

This game is a work in progress. Frontier have always maintained that is the case and have made no secret of that fact. I'm afraid people will have to learn to master the fine art of Patience, and as the old phrase goes Like it or Lump it.

Seriously, like it or lump it or troll the forums of a game you don't like on New Years Eve because you have nothing better to do just doesn't have the same ring to it.

People can support ED and SC...it doesn't have to be either or.

Dude, you can't even form a group. That's unusual. Come on now.

I'm in a private group...

What kind of group do you mean? Are you refering to your own faction?

Chris Roberts sold the IDEA of owning a bad-ass video game space ship for $2,500. Anyone arguing about Star Citizen being better than ED (the game, not that issue that affects old men) is invalid. The argument is not invalid, the person arguing is.

Edit: Nvm, the argument is also invalid.

This is a $60 game, which I assume nearly everyone here here has purchased. Most of the game's features are half-implemented at best or non-existent at worst, but the game is advertised as 1.0. There is valid room for complaint. When a $60 game is 1.0, you should be able to reasonably assume that you are purchasing a fully developed game rather than the promise of a game in the future. This is a standard all game developers are supposed to live up to, and I don't understand why folks are so invested in defending a game that is clearly not ready for launch.

They're empty, procedurally generated systems that are virtually all exactly the same. Make it 800 billion, or 20 trillion. Makes no difference. For that matter, almost all of the habitable systems are pretty much the same, too. Now, obviously this is a space game and you're not going to end up with beautiful hand-crafted environments like in WoW, but maybe even so much as a few sentences of flavor text would be nice.

And they're all pretty empty. Having more empty space than other games doesn't mean the game has more content.

No but it's a good indication of what they spent their time doing, not to mention the scaling, flight mechanics, the graphics in general - if you expected more content than we have now on launch, you were dreaming. I'll say this once more - games like Elite are never finished, and someone will always be complaining about a lack of content, regardless of how much there is.

How much is WOW? How much is Eve? How many hours have you played elite? In 6 months time this game will have many more features and wont have cost you a penny more, so does it really matter if you get your 60$ worth now, or after 5 year.
