How many of you are going to land on a planet...

...when it's available and then there's nothing to do? At the very minimum there should be at least the ability to mine fuel and minerals for those explorers who venture out to those suns where you can't scoop!

Just some thoughts.

When it's available I'll assume there will be "something to do" and yes I will participate in planetary landings.

I will land a to see what all the fuss is about and to see if it is fun and stuff. Eventually I will land only if there are profits to be made - no profits but lots of eye candy means I will probably not bother landing anymore

Yeah, gonna reserve excitement for planet landing until it comes out and its actual addition to gameplay is revealed. A big complaint I have about this game is that while it's desperately pretty, the "vast" universe boils down to different backdrops while you do the same small set of things - I won't spend money to do a small set of things but with different bumpy landscapes in the background.

Honestly, planet landing is one of those things often touted as being "awesome", like dinosaurs, jetpacks, ninjas and the like. But as with any of those things they have to add something meaningful to the game to deserve any praise.

I will land and explore and hopefully find something to do. :) ....but I will keep landing as long as I have breath in my body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the current technology, I have to admit I'd prefer seeing that kind of expansion as late as possible.
If space is mostly populated by ships, stations, spheres (stars, planets, …), rocks and such, a planet surface would be far more complex.
Even if FD manage to match the best procedural engines I really doubt it could represent a rich world with the possibilities of a whole galaxy.

I'd prefer more details and diversity in space (stations, asteroids, debris/giant wrecks, ships, machineries/shipyards/…, etc.).

So, I think I won't land :D (they've done such a great job in representing space so far)

Assuming I've paid for and downloaded the planetary expansion, then I will be landing on planets; whether or not each landing is filled with intense delight or monotonous gloom, is solely dependent on the FD devs enabling some out of the box game play and profit opportunities as well as the obligatory voxel based atmospheric and terrain/ocean rendering delights.

It'll likely be more like docking at first =) They won't need to render entire planets anytime soon. I too would rather see more features in space first. Such a vast playable area with so few items. It's very disproportionate. You'd think they would put randomization into their modules and such given they're so big on seeding things elsewhere. Ships are ships and they need models so of course those aren't quick to make...But what about re-using the same models when possible? Why are we left with such a limited number of weapons and modules?

The space feels empty. The events and missions could be so much more...and I think they will be. When is the question. I do hope before some weak attempt at planetary landing. Surely they can't just keep going on building half of every feature.

I've thought about this too. Sort of the same way that Star Citizen has done their ships, with multiple versions of the same platform, but with added features. Some with more cargo capacity, some able to jump further, some with better scanners, etc etc. That would definitely add more depth to the game when it comes to picking a ship. If I could get a Cobra with the jump range of an Asp, I would totally be working on kitting that out right now... Curious as to why they didn't do something similar.

Ever wondered what a level 2 and level 3 scan is for planets ?

What if we have to fly through the atmosphere and scan it as we come into land via a sniffer and once landed we have a hand held scanner where we scan surface rocks and dirt for their exact composite minerals.

Also we don't know what FD have in store for us, in Frontier Elite we could land on planets and deploy mining modules that would extract resources over a course of a few weeks. Then return to them to pick them up. Problem was they gave off a beacon that npc pirates could track and steal the resources or destroy the equipment.

I'm also looking forward to wandering the stations, looking out the windows at a friend (who is floating around their cabin looking back from his/her ship). :)
