Sad but true, as bounty hunter its quite not playable atm...

Hey Guys,

I tried extraction sites, but could not sense any difference to the nav Point, just random what
appears, but I will also give them a new try :)

Kind regards and have fun !

I tend to drop short of the extraction site and believe me they come... sometimes 2 - 3 at a time but usually 1 - 2 at a time and as soon as one is dead another immediately spawns just outside of radar identification range

Which is why you don't hunt in anarchy systems, and why you make assassination missions your bread and butter.

But yeah, combat wise there is no real point in fitting out a Python or an Anaconda - a grade A Cobra will do the trick. A well fitted Asp is already an overkill. A Python simply mows everything down and is too expensive to maintain on combat careers alone.

until you want to play with friends and realize doh!

it's basically buggy with intransparent mechanics, doesn't scale, and is unbalanced compared to trading.
don't even get me started on missing multiplayer features, that would make co-op not only fun but actually possible

i play this game a lot in the last 2 weeks and like it a lot obv, but it's just unfinished and flawed on many ends

Combat shouldn't pay as much as trading imo. Trading should be the standard "occupation". If bounty hunting would suddenly yield millions, everyone would want to do it. Then there aren't enough targets for Pirates, and thus not enough targets for bounty hunters.

Bounty hunting should be more of a "Cowboy Bebop" lifestyle, where freedom comes at a price.

i just fail to see ANYTHING wrong with it, if that's what everybody wants to do?
and there's enough people that enjoy trading anyway, and without any real PVP i don't understand the argument about targets either.

trading can have the highest profit, but 5x higher or even more, just seems off.

Go to a resource extraction site and enjoy a constant stream of targets with fat bounties, and big rocks to dodge.

"fat bounties"? really? my cobra costs 270k, i rarely see anything bigger than 20k in those sites, after killing 5 sidewinders for 200cr, who apparently had friendly fire incidents.
but yea, it's still fun from time to time.

Combat zones need sorting as you get paid the same for taking down a Sidewinder as you do an Anaconda - where is the logic in that?

/facepalm

combat zones ARE mercenary combat
Taking out 'WANTED' criminals is BOUNTY HUNTING!!!

There is NOTHING to FIX in combat zones as far as payments go, its 3K creds per kill regardless

This. I make easily 100-300k an hour this way. The only downside is occasionally pinging a cop and having to run to an outpost and pay the fine.

If you are in an RES that's too quiet, boost out then SC back in again. It resets the instance - one thing I've found is that each time you enter, a particular type of target will be prevalent. Sometimes it's mostly Sidewinders, others it's Cobras. Occasionally you get a couple of juicy Anacondas with massive bounties (109K is my record so far I think).

I also found that it's best if the local cops are friendly toward you. In a system where they are neutral they can suddenly turn nasty and come after you for no good reason, the same way they do at Nav Points. Never happens if they are Friendly. Unless you shoot them.....

Problem with bounty hunting is that it doesn't scale well.

In early game when you fly Eagle, Viper or Cobra the payout is decent.

However, when you get into Asp, Clipper and Dropship the operational costs for fuel, ammo, upgraded and repairs becomes far too high. Repairing hull from 80% to full cost 35.000 on Asp, and 260.000 on Clipper. A rated upgrades on Asp is 5 million. B rated for Clipper is 5 million, and 16 for A rate.

With that level of repair expenses and upgrade costs you simply make too little from bounties, even if they pay out 10-40.000 per kill.

Someone suggested doing Interdictions from Supercruise. This is NOT doable in Asp, Clipper and larger ships because succesful interdiction makes your ship (for some stupid reason) take hull damage, and with the heavy repair cost for these ships you end up with more expenses in repair costs than you earn from bounties.

Trading scales up from the simple fact that you get larger cargohold. From 40 tons on Cobra to 96 on type6 and 216 on type7 (provided you keep shield gen). That means your profit margin from trading more than doubles each time you upgrade to next ship.

Bounty hunting prizes all remain the same'ish nomatter what ship you are in, so there is no scaling. Also, on another note, the bulletin board missions also, largely, remain the same regardless of your rank, reputation or ship size.

I am a Lord of the Empire, with allied reputation and flying an Imperial Clipper... I have 164 tons of available cargospace as well as heavy Class 3 and Class 2 weapons. Yet the bulletin boards keep offering me low pay missions like transporting 3 tonnes of Biowaste for 1600 credits (which by the way doesnt even cover fuel costs). Very rarely does a mission to transport silver, gold or palladium show up (and those, by the you get Clipper, pay adequately). By and large all the bulletin board mission offers are the same whether you are in Sidewinder or Clipper.

This makes it very, very slow to upgrade and play Clipper and large ships. Doesnt help that 50% of all stations in the entire game are also unavailable to you in those larger ships due to no pads at outposts. E.g. I cant help Empire in Durius system with my clipper due to there only being outposts in entire system.

The chance to find higher value bounty targets, as well as higher payout bulletin board missions need to seriously be increased to make it remotely interesting to fly larger ships.

Personally, I have stepped down into my Viper again.

It is almost like Frontier doesn't want us to fly larger ships...

I agree that it's not viable to bounty hunt in the bigger ships, but if you can afford a Clipper or Anaconda you can easily afford to keep a Cobra or Viper for hunting. Does beg the question of what to do with the bigger ships. I guess I'll worry about that when I can afford one.

Well what is the point of attacking these bigger ships then if you are going to spend more money on rearmament and repairs than you get reward?
Is this too hard for you to understand?
