What happened?

So I dock at a station, carry out a few trades, enter the hangar, then leave the computer with the game running for about half an hour to carry out some IRL stuff. When I leave, the ship is nicely tucked away inside the hangar.

When I come back, I am confronted with this:

What happened? Did anyone else experience this before?

Not a great way to start the year in the ED universe...

Oh dear, that doesn't sound too good at all. I've never experienced this. At the very least, the screen of death should give a little bit more of a clue why your ship was destroyed.

On the face of it, this looks like a nasty bug.

Nice, isn't it. Elite Dangerous is probably the greatest game I've ever played, but this is unacceptable to me. Had a couple of 'incidents' like this on my own, costing $$$ that took a lot of hours to gather. Fine if people think this is ok and part of the game, I don't.

Don't know when I'm going to play ED again but I sure will avoid space stations until this is fixed.

You say that the ship was tucked up in the Hangar?

In that picture I can see the inside of the Station. Are you sure you weren't just parked on the landing pad and you got destroyed for loitering?

Could someone have accidentally hit the 'launch' command when you stepped away from the PC?

Tough luck.

I remember precisely lowering the ship in the hangar and taking a final look at the screen before leaving, to make sure it's "safe". I'm the kind of guy who arms his car alarm twice to make sure it's armed. Maybe the server did not register this... ?

No pets and no voice attack. I'm going to interrogate my wife although the swore she did not touch my computer (I had left her at her computer and that's where I found her). E : D interfering with my family life at a new level. :p Actually I feel better now, all I lost was cargo and all that cartographic data I was planning on taking a trip to empire space for.

I've been under fire when down in the hangar.
There was a raging battle between the station and one of those pesky notorious pirate Lakon Type-9 ships ;) so I ducked out of sight. I think the T9 came down pretty much on top or very close to the pad above my hangar so the station lasers were firing on it through my hangar and hitting my ship.
Losing shields rapidly I hit escape and logged out. Didn't want to lose my new Asp.
Came back in a few moments later with no issues, charged shields and large chunks of a T9 floating about inside the station.

I try and log out when I have to do IRL stuff that's going to take longer than 10 minutes, just in case.
Although sometimes I've not done it and been sitting on a pad for a couple of hours.

No, surely it wasn't sabotage from the enemy within??? ;)

It's not happened to me directly, but it can tell you what has happened.

In beta days I did something similar, parked up and started surfing the net on my Ipad.
My Screen was on and like in your case, my ship was in the hangar.

About a minute into surfing, I got the "warning, ship is under attack".

Looking up, I could see there was an npc being shot at by the station.
Some, not all of the shots were entering the hangar and my ship was taking damage.

So yeah, now I save exit when away from keys.

This is an old bug that most think was squashed in beta 2. Sometimes the computer will not see your ship in the hangar and will try to place another ship on top of yours. This will rub against your shields and hull till one of the ships explodes. You should explain fully in a ticket with a screen shot, you may get some credits back or the ship if it is proven to be a bug.

It said the station destroyed him, I think if that had happened it wouldnt of said that. It looks more like he probably got blown up for pad loitering.

Yes, this is also more than possible.

Yes a similar thing has happened to me whilst in the hangar, a big fight going on above whilst I'm taking an occasional hit, I didn't think to log out though, took a few hits but survived that time, next time I'll logout, good idea there.

Be aware there is no PAUSE and as this example shows you think you're in a safe place when you're not. Lesson Learned is when leaving the game logout first.

On another NOTE: does anyone know the answer to this? When you're in SC and in the Galaxy Map if you get Interdicted does the game force you out of the map. I've done this a few times and wondered what may happen whilst I'm waiting for the spider web to catch up for my long jumps. Either I've just not been Interdicted so I just don't know, or you just don't get Interdicted in this situation?

Hi All,

Thought 1

Not sure if it helps. MY X52 lead to the "joystick" bit had come a bit loose, and the game was seeing random primary weapons fire. I wonder if the game saw a fake button press in some way?

Thought 2
I have had a problem just once in Beta where I entered the lower part of the station, and the conveyer belt went the wrong way, pushing my ship into the wall. Only once mind you, could never recreate to raise a ticket (I think the reversal of direction that sometimes happened had something to do with it).

Not sure - but hope this helps.

Simon
