help im stranded no fuel!

Yep you're screwed.

You have 2 options:

1. Self-destruct.
2. Run out of fuel completely, lose power, suffocate and then your ship will self-destruct.

The second option is far more disturbing, I find.

I had thought this too but a few users told me that it was removed when they added fuel scoops.

On the subject of fuel, would it be a completely imbalanced thing to allow ships to store emergency fuel in cargo slots?

After limping into a coriolis station on fumes, I learned the biggest lesson so far.... Do not leave home without a fuel scoop. I'm using my freagle as an exploration ship grinding away to get a better scanner and I can stay out almost indefinately until I can find a station to offload my data. Whatever ship I buy next, first thing on the list will be a fuel scoop.

Ouch tough lesson to learn, apart from being a life saver the fuel scoop saves a lot of credits on long journeys.
