Keep solo mode.
Keep open mode.

Lock out switching when your ship is under fire.

No it's not perfect but I'm sure it'll stem at least some of the complaints.

What controversy?

Are you referring to the complaints that some people have with others joining into solo then into open? Because if that is the controversy then phew, I thought it was something important.

Anyone who complains about players playing solo for segments then playing open are being childish.

Where's the problem? Or do you want to drive off even more people into solo and out of the game to satisfy your demand for easy prey?

There is no controversy. The only people I see complaining are those who are under the illusion only pvpers are in open. Which blatantly isn't true.

Indeed. Based on my evidence thus far, there is close to no one in open. Which I know to not be true. But it is a hardly unexpected side effect of the size of the galaxy. Since I started playing just before Christmas I have had exactly zero interaction with other CMDRs. I have seen a few on my scanner, but not many. Even when I visited Sol and Lave.

its more of a conterversy relating to people thinking that in open, there wont be players playing as pirates, or that they can abuse task manager to close out of the game to avoid having losses when they failed. especlay if they chose not to get a shield or any kind of weapon. or the group of people who think that the open pvp system in open is not a intended part of the game. as well as people insulting those who chose to play in solo or private.

but to be fair, most of that is just people who are feeling, and not thinking when they type out there thoughts.

I think however that if the ai was much more aggressave, especaly to traiders, and actually provided more of a scaling challange, then no one would really care if you played in solo or open. but hey, thats just a simple answer to a complex problem.

There is already a 15 second timer. If you can't kill your target in 15 seconds while they are looking at the timer and not manouvering, you are doing something wrong, or you were never going to kill them in the first place.

People trying to escape PvP seems to the be the only valid complaint i've seen, and i agree, if people are not willing to risk PvP they shouldn't play open. But yeah, 15 seconds should be enough.

You assume too much from some loudmouths that like to splatter "controversy" all across the general discussion.

These are not the droids you are looking for.

Oh hey someone figured out what I was actually talking about. Good job.

To all the solo players,

You do realise that Solo mode is just Open mode with commander names replaced with NPC names and chat disabled, yes?
FD didn't have funds to develop a full solo mode
happy to help
:)

Edited to add, the real controversy will arise when those PvE groups realise the number of sleeper PvP players in their mists ;)

Yeah I played in Mobius's group for a while, but I prefer the risk of open and the sheer pleasure of running into commanders. To date, every commander I've run into has been friendly and a few of us have had a chat, comparing runs, what we're doing etc. It's been nice.
