Iam throwing a towel!

Everyone is writing how you can easily earn thousand millions of credits. oh be a merchant, get a cargo ship, find a trade route using thurds and be a rich man ... I CAN BUY NOTHING. There is no progression, there is no step forward, there is no content!!

So it must be possible then.....

Don't throw in the towel, stick at it.

Do the combat tutorials, combat really isn't that difficult against NPCs with a bit of practice you will easily be taking out cobras with 5K or 7K bounties that will give you plenty to start upgrading your ship or switching to an Eagle. Learn to use your power distribution between systems, engines and weapons that's key.

The sidewinder is a good ship, plenty of players have stuck with it for a while and upgraded it, its fast an very maneuverable.

What is it you want to do in the game? Trade, Pirate, Bounty Hunt, Explore etc If we knew what you wanted to achieve we might be able to help.

So you are old enough to have a credit card, then you should know that a refund is not going to
suddenly appear just because you posted something on a forum....right? Go through the proper
channels.

Wonderful - running cargo runs for 1200 credits, takes me around 45 runs for the next boring ship. FORTYFIVERUNS??? thats a universe of grinding!!!! Its the same thing as going to work - but here i earn a lot of money!
my problem is not to steer my ship or to handle the trade market or to reach a forgein star system... my problem is that there is no gameplay.
my problem is not to fight someone. iam able to lower your shilds, but they recharge faster than my little weapons cooldown. so i always have to stop fighting and must flee.
my problem is the bad game design!

Seriously, kids these days. In my time you started with 100cr, and a Cobra with one pulse laser. That was all. :p

There is no Instant Gratification mode. I've looked. But it turns out that a stock Sidewinder will hold 4 tonnes of cargo and with a bit of trading you can make enough for a bigger cargo rack. Then you do some of the boring, low paying missions which builds your reputation and makes better paying missions available to you. Well, you don't think anyone is going to trust an unproven newbie with the really important stuff, do you? Do some discovery scanning during trading runs for some extra easy cash. Don't take on other ships in combat until you have some flight experience, but learn how to avoid interdiction, which is easy enough.
.
Then keep upgrading your Sidewinder. It makes for a very capable bad-ass all-rounder if you choose your modules wisely. You don't need a bigger ship.
.
Or... go play Eve Online. I hear it is a lot simpler and more accessible. You'll be flying a capital ship by the end of the week. :p

What else can i do?

trading - not possible. i dont have any cargo slots or a ships that is able to jump with cargo loaded.
discovering - no profit, everything looks the same and my jump drive is to small
fighting - not possible with my ridiculous weapons
socializing - a joke. there is no way of socializing without a chat

I started with the same ship as you and i could fight why cant you? I could trade if i wanted I choose not too cause sidewinder is best for fighting. I definetly could explore i made some good money with it too, why cant you? I am not really the socialinzing type and there you do have a point i made a couple friends and usually they're online and i cant chat with them dunno why
so you must be right.

So i have the right to get my money back! GIVE IT BACK TO MY CREDITCARD!!!!

If I buy a ice cream and take a couple of bites to realize I don't like the taste, does that mean I can return it for a full refund? Nope.

The game is not impossible. There are many many people who have gone up and relatively quickly. Seems like you got a crappy starter system. Maybe you should look at the galaxy map for a nearby high population system and go there instead of waiting for missions where you are.
I was out of my stock sidewinder on the first couple of missions with a hauler, then life became much easier. Get cozy with a good faction in a high pop system and you get missions where they pay you 25k straight up for a milk run.

Lots of good advice being posted, but seems you have neither the patience or general mentality to enjoy the game. Pursue this through the proper channels by emailing FD directly and stating your case. I would suggest you come up with something other than what you have posted here.

Good luck in the future.

Moanyfried, sorry sorry that was Typo........Mottfried, I have just been down my locals store, I know, I know it's very kind me of me especially on New Years Day, I have bought some towels, give me your postal address and I will send them to you so you can throw them in........ This is a game that you have to work at, it is not handed to you on a plate so you complete in a week, I was going to give you some kindly advice but have already seen in the thread that other people have tried that and you are still reacting more childishly than my 2 year old who has just pooed his pants. So as I said give me your address and send you the towels then you can go and play something more suitable maybe angry birds or candy crush saga.......bye bye.

Ahh, the classic mix of myopia, blaming others and self entitlement. Great alchemy.

This. Have some rep. :) The instant gratification generation suddenly coming up against actual challenges. Y'all know what's going on here an we expected it, no-one is surprised. The game still isn't difficult enough imo.

Hi, i bought elite a couple of days ago. Till today i wasnt able to have fun with it!

Why?
I tried to do the mission from the board ... but most of the missions are not possible to run them with my starting ship. Iam not able to run 8 whatever of cargo, iam not able to win a fight with the sidewinder and iam not able to be a free merchant cause my ship cant jump with the amount cargo (till today dont know where i can see if iam overloaded).
So i sit in a station an wait for a new job on the board ... but nothing happens. always the same crappy missions that i can perform!!!!

i played a lot - i played the old school hardcore flightsim F-16, i played the origional "elite", i played the buggy "x" and many more. But this game is a joke!!
Players are killing me after they kicked me out of hyperspace, my ship is weack and the mission generator is programmed by a beginner.

And then there are the bugs - when you cant see the numbers of the docking ports, when a station is attacking you but you did nothing, and so on!

look, right there, you just got socialized, all without chat. :p

few points.
first of, the general discussion forum is not the place to ask for refund, try support

second, you opened a package, installed software, and activated an account in order to get to this point so no, there won't be a refund, pretty standard with PC software sales

third. no, its not impossible at all, as others pointed out, each of us (except kick starters with various cobra versions) started in the same boat you are and we managed. as mentioned there are tutorials out there, how to guides and things like that. use it, try it. i probably could have made enough cash to upgrade a stock sidewinder in the time it taken to read this post and write this reply.

forth. you purchased a game without looking into it, doing some online research what it is, how it is? find some recent videos about it on youtube? why would you do that? seems silly

fifth. never mind, not touching that one, that was on my new years resolutions.

so buckle up, welcome to elite, learn to swim in this vastness of space or take someone up on his 10 bucks offer and go back to something you enjoy (unless that's ranting on forums, if that's the case, please do that elsewhere, we got quite enough of THAT already, thank you for your consideration)

Step 1: Find an anarchy system you can jump to.

Step 2: look for illegal salvage missions on the Bulletin Board, Such as Military Plans, Black Boxes, Prototype Tech, Etc.

Step 3: farm USS at 30 km/s. The missions will make the USS spawn that item quite frequently, so fill up your hull.

Step 4: go back and finish the mission, and sell the excess illegal cargo on the black market. Note that pretty much all salvage cargo is worth 2k-3k on the Black Market per ton. And best of all It doesnt cost you a dime.

Given the 10's of thousands of people who are managing to progress, including my 9 year old son, I would say the fault lies with the way you are playing.

take a break, read the forums for tips, look at the training videos.

As said everyone has started with the same and got somewhere further

Here's what I've done so far to give you an idea....

I started doing missions and small cargo runs, first with the sidewinder then a hauler. After that I moved on to a bit of exploration with an eagle, and eventually traded in for a cobra. I got the cargo size to 40T in my cobra and did decent trading runs with some exploration thrown in, upgrading it as I went, until I could afford a T6 as a second ship. I worked the trading routes quite hard with the T6 until I had enough assets to trade in / spend on an Asp with D rated gear fitted, that now lets me do trade runs with 112T and have a little fine with interdictions too.

And today I just bought a little viper as well and have pimped it up a bit so I can do some decent combat stuff in that or trading in the Asp, once I have enough from all that I will upgrade the Asp to A rated modules and probably ditch the viper...what's next after than I have no idea, a T7 along side, maybe trade in all for a clipper instead, eventually a python maybe...

Bottom line is once you've earned a little to get bigger cargo space and have more money to buy the more profitable metals etc you can ramp up the credits fairly quickly...if you want to reduce the risk from others attacking you then slowly migrate away from the starter area or sol with your trading until you're in less busy places...

If that's all too much for you then this aint the game for you, but that's nobody's fault except yours...there's plenty of streams / youtube vids to give you a real idea on how the game works, maybe you should have done some research before splashing the cash?

I'm happy to come help you, I'd even buy a little sidewinder and do stuff with you to help you get going.

Plenty on these forums, in the handbook and with genuine trial and error to get you going. Not the game's fault I'm afraid.

Lighten your ship... dump the weapons, even the shield... no point fighting anyway until you build up some credits. Replace the shield and/or discovery scanner with more cargo bays. Take a risk, look for USS's as others have said. There's a load of things you could do before shouting the odds on here. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I've managed to build up to a nice fully kitted out Cobra and a few creds in the bank in a few short weeks

The thing I don't understand is how you can give up so easily and blame the game when so many people are playing successfully, surely you should be asking how do they do it, because it is clearly possible and if you are finding it impossible either you haven't tried very hard, done enough research or for whatever other reason are not capable of or willing to understand how it works.

Did you play the training missions? ...

If you get intedicted with a sidy, most "enemy" ships don't have a shield. You have one. It is easy to beat them, except if you play with the keyboard.
You will get easy money, if they are wanted. If they are not wanted, just run.

Since you are playing hardcore F-16, I think you have a joystick. So every interdiction should give you enough money to buy better equipment.

imo the sidy has 4 cargo slots. If you search a little bit, you'll be able to make 400 to 1200 credits per slot, per run.

We all needed to start small and for me it was fun.

The keyboard is a good controller, people are just whining about it so they cannot be bothered to master it.

Can't we just let him buy credits to get another ship? He sounds like a perfect candidate.

I am pretty sure that it will come to that soon enough... The store sells digital paint already.. its not that far off to think ships or credits will be sold next.. SC already sells ships for hundreds and even thousands of real dollars, and that game is not even finished, not even close.. I can't see FD missing out on that kind of ongoing revenue to maintain the band if it's not going to implement a recurring monthly fee..

Anyone wana buy a:

Cobra for 34.95 ?
Anaconda for 79.95 ?
Or perhaps 20 M credits for 19.95 ?
lol :D
