How To Solve the Solo/Open Controversy

Would you please elaborate why on earth you neg-rep'd my post without dropping at least a tiny comment? What's kind of shady attitude is that...
And no, I didn't neg rep you in return. I'm not that childish.
I remember reading somewhere that comments are actually disabled for rep.

Yeah I played in Mobius's group for a while, but I prefer the risk of open and the sheer pleasure of running into commanders. To date, every commander I've run into has been friendly and a few of us have had a chat, comparing runs, what we're doing etc. It's been nice.

This has been my experience also, never played one moment in Solo, been trading heavily now since early Gamma only death to another Commander was in a combat zone and we were on opposing factions, just as it should be.

To all the solo players,

You do realise that Solo mode is just Open mode with commander names replaced with NPC names and chat disabled, yes?
FD didn't have funds to develop a full solo mode
happy to help
:)

Edited to add, the real controversy will arise when those PvE groups realise the number of sleeper PvP players in their mists ;)

Solo mode is basically the same as Open except it has 1 person instance just for you :) And there will be no controversy, they will just kick the PvPers into open and live happily ever after :) After all that's the point of PvE groups.

These kind of voiceless rep'ing is as sensible as just saying yes or no. Is this the future of human communication?
Where is the forum else for? Are these people who are doing it illiterate?
Reputation griefing can happen because of a misclick and I am not sure if it can even be fixed after you happened to misclick.

Lock out switching when your ship is under fire.

No it's not perfect but I'm sure it'll stem at least some of the complaints.

Why does there need to be a "fix"? It's not broken!?!?! People should be allowed to play the way they want to without a penalty!

I wish they would not have done the "open" mode at all.
Now i need internets to play "solo" and there is no chance to mod the game.
(and no, i would not mod to make it "easier")
From my point of view the mmo is bad for elite, the whole thing swallows ressources that should have gone into developing the game.
If i want online there is EVE, it is geared for multiplayer, Elite is not geared for multiplayer and dog fights over the internets is "may the lower laggy one win" period.

On the internet it only takes one really busy person to create a controversy.

EDIT
Forum rep griefing.

Shouldn't be allowed.

;)

While I don't go out of my way to get negative rep it's actually kind of gratifying sometimes. It indicates I've touched a nerve :) Disabling rep comments was disappointing, but very very keeping with general level of moderation on this forum.

people are complaining about different things, some less legit than others.

the switching to solo where under fire is a very minor one. the only cases where this is objectionable is pvp killers that want to cheat when they are losing. a non-pvp player is gaining no advantage by playing open and logging out when attacked compared to being in solo/PvE group.

a more legitimate complaint is this scenario: a player who does all his trading in solo, amasses truckloads of credits (supposedly in a less risky manner compared to open), upgrades a fighter to the max and uses it in open for PvP. I have no idea if anyone actually has done this. People that are afraid of this want solo and open to remain separate. Maybe when/if we get multiple commanders each one could be limited to either open or solo.

The only times I have resorted to switch to solo has been to escape a 'docking denied' deadlock, so I hope they don't block switching until they have docking queues.

I would like to keep everything with the game as it currently is and create a new, unique all-group with a separate background simulator. All characters created for that group are locked to that group and cannot leave. Both camps of players are satisfied here and FDEV will rake in money.

Speaking personally, I can't justify buying expansions or paint-jobs for the game until something like this is implemented. Many of my friends are waiting to purchase this game until this is a feature.

Oh, and this:

I'd like to see solo mode scrapped as its not nescessary for anything and is detrimental to the main game.

If it absolutely has to be kept then you absolutely should not be able to switch from one game to the other, there should be seperate saves to avoid cheating

There's no cheating. And no, I don't do it. Solo's only handy to me when I have a bad connection and I'm using my phone.

And I really wish people would quit worrying about how other people play. I know I don't.

Solo is necessary to go some way to satisfy those who now do not have the promised solo-offline mode. It will not be removed, as to do so would remove the only solo mode in the game and the ability to play solo was one of the core features of the game as described in the Kickstarter pitch.

Similarly, group switching is very unlikely to be removed as it also forms one of the core features as described in the Kickstarter pitch.

These features have been part of the stated game design for over two years now and their continued existence should not be a surprise to anyone.
