General / Off-Topic World of Warplanes

Ey up. Is anyone here interested in the closed beta or planning to play the open beta of World of Warplanes? I've just started playing and it's really good fun! But what would make it better is flying with a wingman (or wingwoman!) to help with those moments when you're outnumbered and alone... :)

I've become hooked on WoT and I have been playing the Closed Beta of WoWp. I'd definitely be interested (although I'm still in the beginning stages of WoWp)

Aslo! maybe as group we could get a WoT clan up and running?

@Caribou

Cool, how far are you in the tiers?

I don't think you can create squadrons etc yet, but I believe it's coming later... Anyway, add me if you fancy flying together. :)

I played it a few months ago and they really ruined the game by making the planes as slow as they are/were. None of the basic air manoeuvres to evade someone on your tail worked as they should, since the enemy pilot had all the time in the world to react to your actions.

I'm not sure if it has been changed since, but pretty much everyone on the forums complained about it and threatened to leave to a competing air fighter game.

I don't know, because I've only been playing a week or so... what were you flying at the time?

I used to play Air Attack many moons ago on BT wireplay/dialup modem  which was a similar game, only with more basic graphics. I've read they are trying to combine realism and arcade, to create a hybrid game, which has elements of both, which tbh I think they've done a pretty good job. For me, I have only a few small minor gripes about the game, but on the whole I think it's really great and ofc still in beta.

I do think that people don't consider others very much, which doesn't help. Eg no support at times, because people fly off on their own, or the most annoying is after you kill 95% of someone's plane, have someone else take credit for the kill!!

WoWp Tier 2 - been playing about a week or so too.

WoT Tier 4 - Some of the new maps (to me) are making me slow down because I don't know the best places to fight from/through.

I messaged you my ID - i'll be playing on Sat eve/Sun Eve (not sure which yet)

@DoctorDanny

I'm interested to see how that will play, given that it's gonna involve lots of slow moving ships. I wonder how they'll make it entertaining and exciting?

Are you a WoT player as well?

Yes, I do play WoT occasionally, but I'm by no means a pro at it.

Regarding the speed of the warships I hope the big ships really feel like big ships. Slow moving, heavily armored, lots of firepower. For me the excitement comes naturally whenever I see big warships ;)

I'm playing, and enjoying it, but the controls seem very jumpy. Every time I get on someone's 6 (not often) a message appears that I am leaving the gaming area and the autopilot kicks in. Also, I know its in Beta but the token system leaves me baffled.

My kill record bodes ill for E: D

Fair enough. :) I've downloaded WoT but not had a battle yet... Been too busy with WoWp! Will definitely try the WoWs alpha when it's out.

I'm sure I read somewhere that eventually all three games will feature in the same arena.... That would be mental!

How are you controlling the plane? I tried mouse but found it very frustrating and now using a joystick, which tbh seems the best way out of them all.

You only get autopilot when you hit the virtual boundary of the map, so just be aware of your location on the main map. :)

The tokens, yeah. You get awarded tokens for your first 5 victories/day and you can use them to purchase various items and planes from the store. They will all be wiped before release though, so get spending. :)

I'll gladly wing up with you if you wanna try it? What tier are you flying at the moment?

Have tried joystick, mouse and game pad. IMO the mouse was not bad as far as control is concerned but awkward to use. Joystick and game pad, about the same but the gamepad is the most convenient. With both gamepad and joystick, I am trying to fine tune the dead zone (???) sensitivity settings, as the joystick centering spring is very strong, so its hard to make small adjustments, and small movements on the gamepad controllers translate into huge ones in game. All in all, the gamepad has won out. (except for the stupid ritual of having to unplug the usb nano and take a battery out of the game pad to reconnect each time (Logitech F710 bought for E: D))

Happy to wing with you (you might not think the same after trying me :D). I am Bingobrewster on the EU cluster and will probably play tonight, if I'm not too bamboozled from the BBQ.

Tier? I have an Argo (Ago?) (level II?) trained up to training wing level

Ok... I can't help with the gamepad, cos I've not tried it. My joystick didn't need much adjusting, except for deadzones of about 8%/10% X/Y. I would think for a gamepad, the deadzone would be less of an issue, but sensitivity could well be... Trial and error I think!

You may want to search for a pre-made control config and copy that into your game folder. I know people have created them for reasons such as this... Try a search - it may help. They are just xml files.

lol... Nah don't worry, it's all good fun! Besides, you get more if the team wins, than for individual victory iirc! I'll add you as a friend and go from there.

Yeah the planes are based on tiers, so 1 through 10. You earn experience through battles and you can then "buy" the next tier after you've earned enough. But dw, I can pluck out a tier II cos it's always good fun to fly different planes. :)

Track IR, Occulus Rift - World of Warplanes

I am enjoying this game. But its easy to see what a huge benefit Track IR or Occulus Rift would be. Its like trying to fight looking through a telescope. As soon as an enemy is in your view, they are gone again.

I may seriously consider Track IR if ED is the same

I'm utterly addicted to WoT, it's my favourite game at the moment. Unexpectedly nuanced.
I had a look at some of the gameplay reviews of the planes (eg mighty jingles) and it didn't look like it was going to work so well, for some reason it seemed to lack the immediacy of hiding behind a bombed out building waiting for an ambush. Would be very interested in what people think of it.
I think WoT is going to keep me going until the Elite release anyway, I'm still crap and trying to get better!
Oddball - are you out there? It's right up your street if you haven't tried it already - but watch out for them pesky Tigers...

Now that I have upped the frame rate (6 is too low) by lowering the graphics resolution its great, and I dont really notice much difference in the graphics.
