I am an absolute nobody...

And that's exactly what I absolutely love about Elite Dangerous. I have hated with a pure passion every single MMORPG I've ever played, especially The Old Republic and Elder Scrolls online, they both took series I loved and totally ruined them by having some stupid illusion in which you are simultaneously the 'chosen one' in a game with a million other 'chosen ones'. Utterly wrecks the immersion with a stupid and inherently contradictory gameplay mechanic... For God's sake, if you're going to be an MMO game then you have to come to terms with the fact that you should be just a tiny cog in a much vaster world. For me, (there may be other games I've not played that gets this,) Elite absolutely nails this bang square on the head. I feel tiny in a incomprehensibly vast universe, and that alone is enough to evoke a sense of wonder. There are many problems with this game, though I have faith they will be ironed out, but honestly, this single fact is what makes me effortlessly sink hours into the game. What an amazing experience...

Massivly get what you are saying here

Im just a little speck of dust in the galaxay running backwards and forwards in my ASP collecting cash taking 124T and seeing there is still 7,895,632 left in the station

Oh and apparently when I read the news there is a was about to break out and Im seeing nothing of it - and in fact have only a little interest at the moment (I do feel that I will get dragged into it at some point probably kicking and screaming mind)

I do feel so tiny and in a game that isn't revolving around me But at the same time feel that I am doing quite well

Totally agree with you. I'm no one special, telling my own story. I like the fact that there are some systems where the local pirates hate my guts because I've spent time there bounty hunting, and that I'm now Friendly in the Federation despite the odd mistake, it's my story and I'm telling it.

Yes, as, have to agree, there are some problems, but I'm enjoying Elite despite this.

This is second life...alllows you to mak mistakes, learn from them, move on do something else, go where you want when you want, fight when you want, run sometimes. All we need now is a bar on the outposts and stations where you can discuss your near misses.

100% agree with OP! Being told you are the greatest hero the world has ever seen with every single completed minor mission get's old after 5 minutes when you have hundreds of other "greatest heroes" around you at any given time. Elite is one of the first online multiplayer games that gets this right, I think.

"The whole infinite Universe. The Infinite sums. The Infinite distances between them, and yourself. An invisible dot on an invisible dot. Infinitely small."

Has always struck me as funny that when you are talking to an NPC that is telling you that 'You are the only one that can save this land' and you look around and there are 5/6 other players talking to the same NPC, at which point i just want to shout out 'OI YOU LOT BACK OFF , Im the saviour , he just said so' instead its more like 'You want to group up for this one'

In Elite its more like 'Yeah thanks for the delivery , what you still standing there , i have another 324 deliveries coming in and dont have time to stand around talking to you'

Yeah it jarred a bit in those games where you are the preordained starkilling godslaying chosen one, destined to bring us all out of slavery, deliver us from evil, and, let's face it, soon to be emperor of the universe... But if you could go kill those five sewer rats, and maybe collect ten apples for me, that would be suuuper. Oh and here's two copper pieces

what is also mind blowing is looking out of your cockpit while in Super Cruise, flying at several 100c's and realizing the scale of the dense yellow/orange blob you are seeing and that each one of those dots actually "exists". Kind of makes you feel small ..

Nail on the head op!!

I'm just a regular person doing trading and a bit of bounty hunting, if I ever became excellent at either it's because I put the time and effort in not because I am the preordained saviour. The people who organised the Lugh experiment are like real revolutionaries, not because a quest said so but because they decided to be so and put the effort in.
