Unlike many other MMOs, 'Champion of the Underworld' x 1000, titles in Elite Dangerous MEAN something. I wish we could use alternatives as our prefix rather than Commander. I get that it's historic to the other games, but makes little sense in this new enviroment.

Please give us an option to use our various titles. The base Federal and Imperial ranks are a good start, Founder is another valid title and I'm sure there'll be others.

I dunno. It kinda makes sense to me, as a prefix for independent ship owners. Maybe suffixes would be better, if you want personalisation?

I don't disagree it's a valid prefix, but we have the options of others. Suffixes wouldn't scan well on my HUD.

Start with a simple name, same as NPCs. Ranks with whatever faction would be added. If non aligned stick with the flat name.

Example, Han Solo... Commander Han Solo after he ranked up with the Orange shirts.

Player are alreay identifiable by the scanner icons, so no misjudging just by name.

Sorry Jeff - it was the first thing that sprang to mind (and would no doubt be demanded once alternatives to "CMDR" are available) - if, however (as you seem to on a re-reading of your post) be talking about selection from a Frontier defined list - maybe....

Oh yeah, definitely from the Frontier Defined List. Like I said, unlike in most MMOs (I really have in mind The Old Republic) where you have a single player game title 'Champion of Tython' or whatever, here the titles actually mean something.

I mean in the real world we tend to use the highest level title we're entitled to use. Be it Commander, Professor or Doctor.

It's more about varying everyone being a Commander. Replace Doctor with Commander and it'd be like any get together in any space bar:

once "wings" arrive, the clans will start. Coordinated attacks, which you won't know about until they start firing, as you won't be able to tell if the 5 ships nearby are in the same wing or not

I like the idea and I predict it will happen eventually. CMDR should be a generic title given to noobs who have shown they can undock at one station and dock at another.
