Ships Thinking of upgrading to a Lakon Type 7 seven - any advice welcome

Hello,

Wondering where I can get a Lakon 7

Are there any issues with it? Bugs etc.

Anything to keep an eye on like heat etc?

Thanks Chaps

Ben

No bugs, the only 2 issues I am aware of really are

  1. It cannot land on medium pads, so stations only
  2. It has a very weak hull. It takes heat damage sooner than any other ship (about 130-140% instead of 150%)

Been flying the Type-7 for a few weeks now and it's a pretty solid performer. Handles like a hydrogen inflated pig, but can carry 200+ cargo with a shield and no bugs that I have found.

Insurance was almost half a million out-of-the-box so don't leave yourself short when upgrading.

Heat can be an issue when boosting and Frame Shifting with damage starting at about 130%, but once you upgrade your power plant/distributor/FSD things settle down. Still a little sensitive to close sun flybys though...

Don't make the mistake that you can play chicken with a Type-9 heavy in the letterbox, you will still come off second best.

Good cargo hauler..... Will be sad to trade it in....

+1

Mine served its role well as a stepping stone to a Python.

Hello,

I have filed a bug report about this ship a week ago: after entering the station I started to turn towards the pad (it was the closest to the gate), and the ship got stuck at the end of the gate. I was instantly at 0 speed and no amount of manuvering got it out. Up, down, left and right all failed. Even tried boosting it - it still stayed at 0. After a minute the station blasted me to pieces. My theory is that the wings are bugged and bigger then they seem so, and I was stuck because of them.

Puting theory aside, I have two more advices (those above me already told you about the price, the low hull and the very bad heat management): always aproach the station gate in the horizontal middle, but at 1/3 verticaly down - the cockpit is very low in this ship. And always fully enter the station, don't try to turn towards the pads too soon.

Peter

Thanks Chaps!

Anyone looking for one can find one at

Yen k'uie siddha gateway 90 -90 -50 Empire space - No black market (There is a black market at Chi Eridani where you can trade rares too. You might pass it on your way)

If you ever get stuck, or fly into a station without asking for docking permission, just quit and rejoin the game, it'll automatically move you back out of the station.

Maxed out A-rated with 208 cargo costs 31 million with 1.3 million insurance. Seems repair costs are low per a Lykon Type 9 ramming me my hull was down to 41% but repair costs for all was 7,000. Hardpoints are top, bottom, left, right so I went with dumbfire missiles top/bottom and gimbled beams left/right.

Jump Range 22.83/16.47
Slow pitch, yaw
Max Power 15.60MW (larger weapons will draw more power than available)

Get a Power Plant with better heat efficiency asap, that thing as to cooldown every jump or you get >150% quickly.

Ohhh...and don't try to sneak through the airlock when a type9 is close. Got stuck between type9 and airlock and got shot for airlock loitering ^^

Mine stopped very quick this afternoon. I was hovering over the landing pad having done the perfect hands free approach with voice attack when I noticed the gear hadn't deployed (I got distracted by a Skype convo... You know who you are..) so I pressed what I thought was the gear down key but it turned out to be boost, so I paniced and pressed it again for good measure :) 320 kph into the back wall with 232tons of gold onboard lmao.

Too bad I wasn't there...I like explosions ;)

I ALWAYS deploy landing gear before entering the Airlock...may be a bit slower, but always safe because boost doesn't work when landing gear is deployed. Never hit the wall, but hit the outer wall with a type6+gold :)

Personally I feel that's a little overkill. A Type 7 with my leightweight/longrange loadout costs 23.5 million, of which virtually all goes into the ship itself and the A5 FSD.
It can carry 212 tons of cargo over 18.08 LY and the D4 Shields are enough to compensate minor bumps.

Sure, it's self-defense capabilities are non-existent, but so what? I have yet to encounter one of these infamous player pirates and you can easily outrun NPCs. And in the super-rare event that a player pirate robs me my ultimate defense plan is to jettison a couple tons of cargo.

Thanks Chaps!

Just bought my Type 7 and completed my first practice run with a full cargo of weapons (non-lethal, just the kind that give a bad graze)!

Here's my trappings and what not

>> Advice Welcome <<

Hard points
No weapons (Any suggestions?)
2 x heat sink
1 x point defenece
1 x chaff launcher

Internal
Light Alloy (Free)
Power Plant A4 (Would a D$ do or would that be a heat risk?)
Thrusters B5 (Best value for non combat flying brick?)
Frame Shift Drive A5 (Runs coolest?)
Life Support D4 (Lightest?)
Sensors D3 (Lightest?)
Fuel C5 32 Cap (Standard)
208t Cargo (Lots)
Shield Generator D4 (Lightest ad enough to deal with scrapes?)
Shield Cell Bank A2 (Best value?)
Fuel Scoop A2 (Fast?)

Cash managment
10m for ship and cargo insurance, and running costs
2m spending cash

I'll be just doing trading and a bit of smuggling

I'm currently around 20m ish in a exploring ASP.

Was going to go for T7 next after a bit of exploring

wasnt sure what the your base cost for the T7 and a few upgrades to get going was.

Cheers Ben

I wanted to keep power needs to a minimum and jump range to the maximum so I went with no weapons at all (I just run from combat), but with chaff and ECM. Then D rated everything apart from, A5 FSD and A2 Power Plant. With a fuel tank that is never over 40% full I get a 17.94 LY jump range with 216t cargo on board. I'm really happy with the ship and I'm quickly on the way to my Clipper :)
