Combat ranks

Hi,

I was just out hunting and accumulated around 1mill bounty.
When I claimed the bounty at a local security office, I gained a new combat rank, Expert.

How does the combat ranking work, and what is affecting this title?

539 Bounties claimed.
6,095,815 CR profit from bounties.

Just number of kills. I hit Mostly Harmless around 20 bounties, Novice around 75, Competent around 225 and Expert at 525. It's believed that it's number of kills rather than bounties, but unconfirmed. There's also a view that the quality of the kills may count.

Hm... I've reached the "Expert" combat-rank recently and have now 710 claimed bounties worth 3.034.519 credits. So my guess is, that the function to calculate the combat-rank factors in number of claimed bounties, bounty-profit and a targets combat-rank. We can see from the replies so far, that the combat rank is not just a function of two variables (claimed bounties, bounty profit), but three variables (claimed bounties, bounty profit, targets combat-rank).

Best regards...

I remember reading somewhere that you rank up in increments. Expert is 500 kills, Master is 1000 etc etc. It basically doubles up every time from what I can remember.

I'm on about 900 kills atm, if I change to master when I hit 1000, I'll be sure to let you know, in order to confirm it.

Competent, killed some fellow criminals that got trigger happy but mostly fed scum

so probably is not counting bounties but just kills

"Quality" /level of target has an effect too - 100 Harmless kills counts less than 100 Elites, by a long shot. And "Clean" targets account for no kill at all.

Not true on the clean thing, as i kill clean police mostly and the rank went up

Although with variation depending on the difficulty of your target, it's roughly a doubling, you have to get as many kills for the next rank (roughly) as you needed in total to get to your previous rank. So around 500 to 600 for Expert, will mean you need to get as many again and you'll see Master at around 1000 - 1200.

I made expert with around 570 bounty kills and around 70 conflict zone kills. Most of the conflict zone kills were dangerous, deadly or elite - I believe.

No? Hmm... yea well, cops are bad guys anyhow. Haven't been shooting them after getting 48K bounty on my head due killing one. They interdicted me - and as it is, I shoot to kill whoever does that... just hate being interrupted :D

I believe it just applies to killing in general, and is also influenced by the skill level of those you killed.

I can't confirm this, but I reached Expert today right after killing a pirate lord (i had killed a number of them before, as a note to avoid suggesting that there is a correlation to killing a pirate lord specifically). I believe an elite anaconda should count more than a harmless sidewinder with no shields. I'm quite sure FD would have considered this.

So to answer the OP question: I've done a large number of bounties, but more recently have focused on combat zone kills, and have been ranking up as I killed in the latter context, so it does not measure particularly off of bounties would be my deduction.

So How it is calculated?
I've got 610 kills and still Competent? :|

What about "Clean" Targets in Anarchy zones with Bounties? (you can see Bounties with KWS scanner)

I'm currently on 45 kills with 354K Cr bounties and still mostly harmless despite taking out a master Anaconda and an Elite Viper today. So from reading the above maybe I need another 30 kills to get competent but what about novice? At least with trading and exploring you know what you need to do/get in order to progress I knew precisely that I would rank up to entrepreneur on my last trade and I did. It's infuriating having no idea what you actually need for each rank. Do you actually need to dock and sell the bounties (I wouldn't think so as apparently anarchy kills and kills by pirates still count)?

I think the algorithm goes something like this:
Bounty vouchers redeemed + bounty credits earned (since you make more if the target has a higher rank)
+
CZ kills + target type and rank
=
Combat rank

But thats based only on observaton
Can we get a moderator here??

Would love to know this also.
I don't think credits are relevant as I have levelled up in war zones/nav points several times without cashing in bonds or bounties. My best guess is that it's some formula that involves number of legitimate kills x target combat rank x ship type.
