Day 3 in Elite - Excitement begins

So far all I've been doing in Dangerous is trying to amass some Credits to be able to improve my Sidewinder (or maybe even buy a new ship.) I've been hopping system to system looking at bulletin boards on different stations to take jobs with normally a very low pay out. But today, that all changed.

I'd heard that sometimes in Unidentified Signal Sources you could find some rather lucrative bounties. So far, all I'd found was funeral or Wedding ships. But after disengaging my Thrusters in one, I saw five ships hovering about. Two of these were just System Authority Vessels and the third.....popped up wanted!

I deployed my Hardpoints and re-directed power to my weapons and engines, taking all away from Systems for more firepower. I boosted towards the wanted ship and got a notification that he had activated his hardpoints. I pulled back on the throttle and pitched my nose upwards, coming behind the enemy ship, opening fire with my pulse lasers across the rear of his ship, tearing his shields apart. Suddenly, my ship came under fire, turns out that the other two ships were his friends. PIRATES! Luckily for me, the two System Authority Vessels seemed keen to get into the firefight as well and I saw them steaming towards me, rail gun fire missing my ship by what seemed like inches.

I figured these two had the other pirates covered, so I stuck to the rear of the ship that I was chasing, matching him move for move, blasting away with my Pulse Lasers. 10%, 5%, BANG! I got a notification saying that I'd received a 10,000CR bounty! I'd never seen this before, normally I get around 1000CR!

Turning the ship around I saw the two System Authority Vessels targeting one enemy ship. I followed suit and he still had about 80% hull. Suddenly, he turned, a move I hadn't anticipated and started shooting straight at me. In a panic, I hit the Boost button and opening fire, boosted straight at his ship, managing to narrowly avoid it. We were locked in a war of turns for this ship for about 5 minutes, his friend still engaging us, before he was destroyed. Another notification saying I had about a 5000CR bounty. I was in awe.

Finally, his friend had about 45% hull. I got a notification saying an engine surge was detected, there was no way I was letting this guy escape! Again I boosted towards him, the top of his Cobra facing me. With weapons at full power, I opened fire across the top of his ship, joined by the two System Authority Vessels who appeared to flank me. BANG! Around a 7000CR bounty again! All in all, I had claimed over 22,000CR in bounties in my Sidewinder (the only edition to which is a Fuel Scoop!)

Frantically, I hit F2 to try and save the footage, but shadowplay hadn't been running in the background since my last NVIDIA update!!

Needless to say, after all the reviews I've seen about how exciting Elite can be, I've finally had that moment of pure exhilaration and can say where I enjoyed the game before, now I'm in love with it!

UPDATE:

I've since used the Credits gained from the Bounties I've collected to buy and Eagle and fit it with a Fuel Scoop and 8 Slot Cargo Bay. USS's are showing up even more now, so I've managed to earn a little bit on the Black Market, selling Military Plans and Chemical Waste!

A very enjoyable read, thanks for sharing. The game is exciting in many aspects.

I myself thrive in the thrill of discovering a star's orbiting planets with my short range scanner, in addition to spatial awarenes and eye spotting of moving objects in the background. But I also like the excitment of fuel scooping or escaping an interdiction or been able to run away from a group of pirates when investigating an unidentified signal. Given that I do not do combat or trading, I have no firepower and cargo. Speed and manuverability to escape my enemies and freedom to go wherever for long without a station is all i need. But sooner or latter i will need to use those empty utility mounts and install modules for defence against missiles. But if i avoid unidentified signals and hone in my skills of escaping an interdiction, i should be fine without them. Someone might say, you then do not need shields, but i will not risk it.

The game is certainly exciting.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how good it would be without the video, but glad you enjoyed reading the post!

I've also started to love the fuel scoop. I used to merely sit stationary whilst it filled up, but found out recently I can do really fast "swoops" around the sun and fill up quicker than sitting still.

If you like a bit of action another good place to go as well as nav beacons is extraction sites, you can find them close to planets that have rings, just check your system map to find ringed planets.

Go to Nav Beacons. You wont regret it. Scan and scan and BAM! 50k credit bounty on some poor sap in a eagle.

Thanks.

I thought Nav Beacons were just where you "ported" in near to the stars.

Hadn't ever heard of Extraction Sites before, will definitely look into these two!

Don't hop around too much, if you work one system you'll go up in standing and get offered higher and better paying missions.

But it''ll still not as good as the thrill of winning a turning duel in space, will it?

Nav beacons are one of your best hunting grounds ;)

You can also find stolen cargo at USS's. If you are in an anarchy system you can scoop this and sell at outposts without fear of being scanned. At other stations you have to smuggle it is using speed or silent running. That is fun but expensive if you fail!

Great post Rep inbound :)

Love to read these types of posts its refreshing compared to some of the threads on the forums, there are very few games i have ever played that supply the same kind of immersive experience Elite delivers.

See you out there commander!
