New BAD article about NO communication and broken game

Some people must be new to online games, the problems in Elite are minor compared to other games that have already matured or when they first came out. We just got out of gamma, give FD a chance to develop and find their feet. The core mechanics of the game are solid and I've had hours of exciting play so far. There are a few issues that definitely need looking at, and some tweaking is necessary, but does this detract from the wonder and fun of the Elite universe for me. No.

The most important thing after a working game is customer support and interacting with the community, almost all of the games I've played have got this massively wrong at some stage. Usually because they create a conflict between increasing financial gain and ticking off the player base, by rolling back things that used to be free or should be free. This is usually done in a clumsy way that riles even the fanboys. I feel like I already have got my money's worth of enjoyment, but I won't senselessly bash a company that is just starting out and has minor teething problems.

Entitled gamers expecting frontier not to have a christmas holiday. Its not new. During the beta entitled gamers were complaining about bugs in the beta not being fixed asap. Often frontier were working well into the early hours of the morning trying to get fixes out for entitled gamers complaining about finding bugs that they agreed to look for.

They have worked nonstop on this game the last year, and we begrudge them having the national christmas holiday off? Why have we become so spoilt, whingy, impatient and entitled brats?

The core problem is not the bugs in itself. That i can understand and they can pretend to work on them. The core problem is them being almost totally silent about everything, pretending ED is running just fine.
You can do as much from your couch.

You are kidding I guess :) If they wanted to have holidays, they should release game at 5th Jan 2015 rather then throw grenade and cover :)

I'm sure a lot of people doing free work for FD, beta testing, were exploring the game until the early hours too. I'm pretty sure those very same beta testers were always in game all over the Christmas holidays.

Don't launch a bugged game, then go on holiday the next day and not expect to get bad feelings for it. Especially when others are doing FREE work for you still during those same holiday periods.

They're saving a fortune on in house play testers.

How dare fdev take holidays! They released a game don't they know this is in the same league as a major world conflict or Ebola, people are being killed and starving by the thousands because they haven't made an official forum post on the matter!

I'm in a mind to contact Amnesty International and UN to get this resolved! ;)

Yeah, you'd think the world was ending the way people go on and on with their doom and gloom cr4p.

Most people haven't had issues other than an occasional bit of down time, most people have enjoyed the game and most people with a positive view on the game don't post it as they're too busy playing it!. It's too "glass is half empty" here and in those articles.

The game has been out 2 weeks, has a shed load on users on board and has only had a couple of major issues over this time for a few people...the rest of the negative spin in here is more about what people want versus what the game offers...and that should have been resolved before release through beta and gamma testing. Once released no-one should have much influence on change on the core game, consultation for the game basics is over.

Give it a month and it'll be spot on as far as stability, that's if all the 1000's of nonsense tickets that have been raised can get triaged out of the way to allow real work to be done....

Just wait until Star Citizen comes out ages after it's expected release date, i bet it has as many if not more issues in the first few weeks and people then will say "Elite wasn't this bad when it was released!"

Those entitled gamers paid more than twice the money the common "pleb" gamer did. So they did their overtime for the "pleb" to not nag at the bugs found in the early stages. Now nobody can say "but it is just [enter pre-release stage title].

They work hard and deserve vacations. But those are not bound to holiday season. They could have worked between the days and keep the game running and take the time off if everything runs "as intended".

umm....

why would someone want a communication on what is wrong with the servers when the servers are up and running and fine.

very odd

Not been effected by any server issues or instability beyond a couple of hours a few nights ago and then it was quite brief.
As for general bugs in the game, yep there are some, show me an online game that doesn't especially at launch. Many of the posts complaining of bugs are not describing bugs but designed gameplay the poster either doesn't understand or just doesn't like.
I remember playing WoW at release and that was what I call bad, they had to give free time due to servers dying and it too had bugs way more than ED and, depending on your viewpoint, WoW turned out ok.

Just found out they are recalling the British government from their Holidays and an emergency Cobra meeting is planned to discus the current issues with Elite and what war crimes to level against frontier for their lack of communication.

There's talk of limited air strikes!

I think the next stage will be the "The game is dying!" one, give it a couple of weeks max.
It's very sad to see but almost physiologic with online games nowadays

Headline News!!! - Christmas Canceled, Gamers upset with bug discovered in computer game. Needs answers ASAP.

I'm not an "entitled gamer", I'm an IT professional. And yes, I did work during vacations precisely for the reasons I stated above. No matter how many simulated stress tests you perform, you just can't replicate the load and unpredictable behavior that a mass of actual users will bring on the systems. A "small glitch" will turn into a widespread communication failure. That's why you must be there ready to sort it out. How many money in loss of potential future sales from negative publicity is this going to cost FD?

The articles aren't reviews and aren't "hating" on the game they are referencing actual server issues we've all seen over the last few days. The communication issues aren't "in game" problems it's directed at FD. The articles are pretty short...quick read.

I tried to reference a colloquialism in one of the articles and tried to quote it here but the "filter" won't let me post it.

HAHA, that was really good sarcasm xD

In case you are serious, google 'online services' or 'online games' and see what the typical responsibilities of the providing company are towards their paying customers. That is, having ZERO communication for days when an error occurs makes FD look amateurish and unprepared.

Nah, this is exactly company level disaster. This needs developers in the office.
Players who like game, spend on game, recommend game. Players who are unhappy for not being able to play and seeing no effort don't spend and badmouth game, despite playing it, once it's fixed.
Mind you, this game has no subscription model (silly move imo), it needs love of player during future expansion kickstarters.

Being of the older '84 Elite persuasion, and being out of gaming until ED came out, I've no idea what the online gaming community tends to be like these days. Threads like this and many more on here make me think there are way too many gamers these days that spend more time in forums whining than in games playing....
