New BAD article about NO communication and broken game

Being of the older '84 Elite persuasion, and being out of gaming until ED came out, I've no idea what the online gaming community tends to be like these days. Threads like this and many more on here make me think there are way too many gamers these days that spend more time in forums whining than in games playing....

So you decided to whine about customers that are posting on the forums, instead of playing, because the online service is not working?! Make sense xD

Have loved Elite since 1984. The posted links are from sites that accentuate the negative to create hits on their sites. Personally, I have issues and raised tickets to correct. I have faith in Elite, and nothing, knowone, will destroy my support for this Elite venture.

Nah, this is exactly company level disaster. This needs developers in the office.
Players who like game, spend on game, recommend game. Players who are unhappy for not being able to play and seeing no effort don't spend and badmouth game, despite playing it, once it's fixed.
Mind you, this game has no subscription model (silly move imo), it needs love of player during future expansion kickstarters.

Well out of all the kickstarter games I've played last year Elite has been the least buggy out of them all. Although it wasn't online Wasteland 2 was pushed out of the gate with half of the game unfinished and Inexile simply hoped they could patch quicker than people progressed which was a major mistake when people found missing dialog and incomplete quests and many place holders. Divinity OS was missing major features and characters and had buggy and unreliable co-op.

My point being Elite has done quite well and I just think it's unfortunate the problems have occurred when they have.

Entitled gamers expecting frontier not to have a christmas holiday. Its not new. During the beta entitled gamers were complaining about bugs in the beta not being fixed asap. Often frontier were working well into the early hours of the morning trying to get fixes out for entitled gamers complaining about finding bugs that they agreed to look for.

They have worked nonstop on this game the last year, and we begrudge them having the national christmas holiday off? Why have we become so spoilt, whingy, impatient and entitled brats?

They work the same number of maximum hours they are allowed to work which in the UK is 48 unless you voluntarily choose to do more hours. You make out that they work a hard job lol. I would love to see some of these devs on a building site then they would know the meaning of real hard work. do they get 3 week off an xmas ... errr.. no.

We are all entitled to a fully functional game. If its broke. Fix it. We are whining because the general forum has became a bug ridden forum. New bugs every day, game breaking bugs. Lets not forget this games wasn't cheap.

I think you need to get off your high horse and get in touch with reality son. I suppose all forums need trolls like you though.

Translation: There will always be honest people telling the truth about the game, But im still gonna stay in my sinking ship.

Translation: I have a bone to pick with this game and going to hang around here telling everyone how bad it is instead of getting on with my life.

The articles are fair i think. One a little harsh but remains truthful. New game, limited support at this time of year, and i agree, communications could be better around here. But otherwise, awesome game, lots of fun, and can live with these teething troubles. Also, small error in one of the articles, it states the game was released for OSX, which isn't strictly true yet.

TWO critical articles? This is definitely it. The big one. The straw that broke the camels back. Elite is sure to fail now.

Doom.

These aren't CRITICAL, just saying that the game is currently having problems. I had same problems as mentioned in the article, thankfully I only lost 200k credits.

lol, No I decided to have a read through the forums after playing all day without issues, whilst supping on my coffee...and my conclusion is that most threads, like this one, need to be ignored by myself in the future lol

Now to find a thread worth reading :)

I appreciate folks needing time off especially around the Christmas holidays and I work to enable folks that work with me to have this time for themselves and their families. I don't think folks are being "spoilt, whingy, impatient and entitled brats" they just need to understand the business critical nature of getting product delivered to begin to recoup company capital. FD planned this delivery for this date and I am sure had risk analysis performed based on Beta and Gamma tickets and in house testing as well as prior deployments of product....but I don't know for sure, nor should I...I can only assume.

Having said all of this I can also say that a little bit of communication goes a long way to satiate folks, even demanding ones. In my very humble opinon FD has be lacking at communications on this issue.

Game is out for 2 weeks and you call it a sinking ship...
Civ beyond earth was dead after 2 weeks, everyone went back to 5 BNW.

But BE is/was in a much, much worse state than ED and was really just a morally repulsive money grab for an unfinished mod for civ5

I see. Better adjust your rose-colored glasses to filter out critical threads in the future.

Ticket number 19867 here.

Issues still not solved and ticket unanswered. I am unable to use a piece of software that was sold to me as a finished product and for which I paid full premium-tier price.

Let's say I was the last person to post a ticket and that nobody had problems after I posted mine (about one hour into the glitch). That still leaves you with close to 20 thousand unhappy customers. That's not a small number by any stretch of the imagination.

Both, Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen are games that are only possible due to the reputation of the big names behind them. Just start counting how many unsuccessful clones have died out there in the last 10 years or so. Well, that rep takes a beating every time 20 thousand people start getting annoyed at you for failing to plan for obvious contingencies, for failing to communicate effectively with your customers, and for not taking immediate and decisive action.

As a businessman I can tell you that little gaffes such as this are the things that snowball and kill a potentially successful business.

First article was fair stating they will have problems and they will fix it.

The second I started to lose interest about 2 seconds after it asked me to skip the advert, and then when I did read it I started to lose interest again at the end of the second paragraph when they lost their ability to write in a language that the whole of the world would understand without some crazy hyperbole. 2 sentences. And my interest was gone journalism !! They need their mother

You know the situation we are all on holiday. Well some guys might be working the police, the fire service, medical personal. And you are gaming while they are helping people who might or might not be dead do you think they really care about your 50 flippin dollars oh what's that and your game breaks woo you know some guy or girl or little guy just died in the moment you write your little message binting about some lucky person winning 5 bill on a flipping game lottery or not winning just losing everything they have played for in the past week. I don't think the problem here is with elite dangerous or the bugs I think it is with something else.

It's new year guys put the game down for a little while (sorry frontier you are enjoying your holidays) and get in the real life.

I'm a little drunk

"No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy"

I'm sure a lot of people doing free work for FD, beta testing.

If "testing" was such hard work that people did for "free." Why did those people join the beta rather than wait for release? It wasn't in any way compulsory to join the beta development.

yeah, why would i play the game? i bought it so ill just go outside. logic.

Those entitled gamers paid more than twice the money the common "pleb" gamer did. So they did their overtime for the "pleb" to not nag at the bugs found in the early stages.

I hope that was sarcasm and you don't actually think that non alpha/beta/backers are actually "plebs."

I think

- Some people considering buying the game should rightfully see pieces like this, because there has been a glitch here or there
- Some website owners write about anything in their niche, no matter how small

FWIW the game uses Amazon's cloud to host the galaxy, it's highly unlikely to be a "lack of hardware" issue.
