Blast shields in the wrong possition for Take off

As in the video the blast shields are in front of the ship taking off and they are reclining!

Actually they should be behind the craft slightly inclined like this:

If that's what they are, that would make sense. I would also petition for the Japanese theme song to be played every time we take off. :D

Edit: we take off more vertically than horizontally. So perhaps those reclining barriers in Elite are there more to protect the watch tower upon approach - ie create a wall for those coming in too low and fast?

What makes you think they're blast shields? You thrust up and above them before hitting the man drive, so they aren't protecting anything nor are they providing something your engines use to push against.

They make sense where they are now..

When you land you will be moving forward towards the platform and your rear thrusters will be active.. Having them where they are provides protection to the building behind them/you from the wash of the engines while landing and creeping forward to on the landing pad.. as MOST don't simply land vertically and kind of slide onto the pad like a short runway.

When your taking off, your only using downward thrust to provide your lift, and any forward thrust you would use would be after you cleared the buildings anyhow so they arnt needed. They retract to "clear your way"..

so they make sense where they are in a way.

Now in game, where none of it really matters, they only do 1 thing.. slow down the launch process :(

haha :D We do thrust up but our main engines are still online. So when the table turns you around for take off the engines are still facing the dock workers behind us.
