Tip: Don't Take Another Commander's Kill

Inspired by a couple of CMDRs (who shall remained nameless) I've interacted with @ Ross 733 in the past couple of sessions... here's some free advice:

I'm friendly with the Federation, and VERY friendly with the ruling faction. All those ships you're seeing on your radar that are orange? They're green on my radar.

Respect my hunt, and I'll respect yours. When I see you've got a claim on a target, I will not engage and I will let you take the claim.

When you see that i've engaged a target and the target is going to lose, don't jump in and try to steal my kill and my bounty. The first time you do it, I'll let it go. The second time you do it, i might mention it on the Comm. The third time you do it, I'm going to wait for you to engage a target, and then continually put my Viper between him and your guns. I'm rather skilled at this. Guess what happens when you tag me in the crossfire?

So: if you watch me start on a kill, then wait for me to chip away at a Python, and then jump in and try to take my bounty - you're going to wind up with a WANTED flag showing up on your screen. And if I can get to you before you can jump, you're going to lose your ship.

Best Regards,

Thorn

Not everyone plays this game from a cooperative viewpoint. We respect your chosen viewpoint, please respect Ours. Open Play is anything goes. Private Group is dictated by the group owner. Solo is our no competition hole in the sand. This is an unrestricted PVP environment and there is no safe place in Open Play. If you were in a Private Group then you need to take it up with group owner.

You sound as if you are doing fairly well, if so give up hunting nav points and start pulling ships out of frameshift much better bounties and you won't have to worry about your kill being stolen.

Universal translate version...
" I am butthurt because I cannot complete the kill, on several occasions commanders have legitimately taken what I deemed to be my kill, so I will try to exploit a game mechanic to try to get even, rather than simply learn to get better and actually get the kill"
Makes sense good luck with that :)

Just giving fair warning... However anyone else wishes to respond in play is their choice as well. :)

In vehicle based games, I also usually let people have "their kill" (unless the kill is shared) — But I have also had this bite myself in the rear.

Example#1:
• I see someone fighting something
• I leave him alone and look for my own targets
• The fight takes a turn for the worse and the player is getting killed
• I come in to help by destroying the target ASAP so the player doesn't get killed
Result = He complains I stole his kill

Example#2:
• I see someone fighting something
• I leave him alone and look for my own targets
• The fight takes a turn for the worse and the player is getting killed
• I ignore the fight and the player get killed by his target
Result = He comes back and complains that I didn't help -_-'

These days I usually just leave the area instead.

Just be careful what you wish for - Because killing potential "competitors" in bounty hunting would be just as valid. :D

I used to scan the new player, check the loadout and if the ship is significantly more powerful than mine, I go find a new place to play, no point hanging round if you can't get the kill. Plus somebody who is repeatedly stealing your kills is probably the kind of pilot that could easily blow you up as well :) making them mad seems like lunacy, I would probably try to kill someone if they intentionally flew into my fire and got me a bounty I mean it doesn't matter at that point I already have a bounty lol.

Translation op will exploit one game mechanic to prevent exploitation of another.

You know there are 399,999,999,999 other systems you can hunt in? It's not like the one you are in is the only one lol

If someone kept stealing my kills I'd just attack and kill them when they were busy fighting someone else. Sometimes bounties are worth it haha

Certainly a possibility, but they'd have a fight on their hands... I have some nifty guns and great shields, too. And in these 2 cases, both immediately boosted for jump the moment they got the kill warrant staturs as the NPCs were going open-season on them.

Schuesseled translated it quite well. The current mechanic of "bounty awarded to..." is a bit odd; in at least half the cases this happened today, i'd put out most of the damage on the targets, and literally had my beams fully engaged on their hull when it exploded... yet another CMDR probably had a hit in there as well, and in that microsecond somehow got credit for it. Forget about the 80-90% I'd done from the start, that one shell from his multicannon was worth 30,000 CR? And again, I let it go a few times.

But like I said earlier - fair enough, anyone can play however they wish... but their style of play may have a repercussion. ;)

The thought crossed my mind; I could have afforded the fine.
