Will lack of subscription kill Elite?

Yes but the solo community is still happy with the outcome at the cost of poor open mode stability. They don't give rat's ass about the open play and as long as their solo mode is stable, open play is just going to fall apart and this game is going to bleed even more players and eventually die.

Don't blame the community, blame Frontier Developments as they alone are responsible for the current shape of the game. I would never have bought this game if it was advertised as a multiplayer only title. When I bought into the beta it was advertised with a full offline game mode - and we all know how that went. I requested a refund before the game even launched, but never got as much as a reply from FD.

Now people like you are stuck with people like me who have no interest whatsoever in an always online game that utterly wrecks everything that was great about the previous games. It's not even a proper MMO, but a weak instanced experience with compromises made left and right, including a solo mode that forces all the multiplayer limitations and silly MMO game design on those that don't want it (Where's my save games etc.?).

So, the blame and failure is squarely on FD's shoulders.

i hope you are speaking as this is your opinion because this game is way better than both of them game more so on X rebirth most dont even know what the X series is
What are you on? The only thing that ED has going for it over the X series is the way the ships handle. There is no economy, there is no feeling of talking to people. Stations are void of life, the galaxy is void of life and with solo people being the plague to the game, ED is void of life. Fluid flying does not trump full gameplay features.

X-Rebirth was a sham and a mockery. Veritably it was a shamockery. Should have been named X-. What a let down.

It's like buying a new car and suddenly thinking "Will I be able to get spares for it after ten years and 300,000 miles?! OH NO I CAN'T ENJOY MY CAR NOW!"

Except you buy a skoda and it turns into a Ferrari the longer it stays on the road.

I'm really sick of this kind of hyperbole.

'I'm really scared about ED'

These kind of statements are, frankly, ridiculous, and I think they are borderline soft trolling (of which there is so much of going on in this forum its painful).

ED has just floated the company on AIM. This wouldn't be possible without some kind of serious business proposal and decent projected (and past) revenues. Elite is Brabens baby. He has no intention of either letting lie in a framework state (as it is now) or not utilising the money saving from the P2P technology to expand the game further with more content and other light monetisation options.

The main reason that subs are not required is that the P2P system takes a momentous amount of processing off of the servers. The player base will stay strong as it is only the minority that can power play and exhaust the game within a couple of months. Most players will be dabbling with it for years to come. As the servers are not ridiculous super computers (Like Required in Eve) the P2P system will allow the game to go on for a long time even if the player base dwindles.

So please don't second guess their business plan or the technology through scaremongering. Your flat out click baiting, and I'm getting really bored of it on here. What will kill the Elite community are these kinds of posts.

And I never would have bought this game if I knew this was going to be a single player game. False advertising.

Love the X games but think ED is much much better even in its present format.

Does you are actually in a space ship in space infinty+1 times better and also no muppets.

Frankly at this point its more like buying some impressive-looking magic beans with the promise they'll grow into mighty arborilogical structures.

Yup, yup. No way to sugarcoat it, that was THE most disappointing game EVER, for me, anyway. It was atrocious, disgusting.

However, as you stated earlier, X3, especially TC in my opinion, is miles ahead as far as Solo space sims go. -- As I was typing this, a shieldless Adder interdicted my fully upgraded Viper. I have no cargo, even. I really hope they'll fix the AI soon, it's awful.

Its so internet that you cant just inform me of some salient facts without attacking me personally in the same breath. My fears are perfectly genuine, perhaps emotional because I do feel passionate about this game.

If FD is well funded then obviously then there is nothing to fear. However I just read that FD just posted a 6 million pound loss.

And I can't fault you for that, which again brings us around to who set up these expectations and who now have to deal with a split community that pulls in opposite directions.
The sooner an offline mode is offered the sooner those interested in online play can have a "pure" experience.

FD can fix their mess, but will they?

I think there are pros and cons to both. I think the X3 games are better currently, but obviously that was after years of development, they were both train wrecks at release. ED is new and shiny, and most of us that loved the X3 games have played them to death, but content wise there is no comparison in their present states.

I certainly think that ED has the potential to surpass them by a wide margin, but it will need the same attention to continual development from Frontier that X3 got from Egosoft.

Plenty of MMOs without subscription with much higher server and network needs. Amd Amazon EC2 is cheap.

Elite does generate money outside the game sales. Its done via paintjobs, merchantdise etc.

Its a small detail with a massive impact for me, the muppets in the X games. Hate them so much as they just crush immersion with extreme prejudice.

dont know what differences you think a offline mode will do open will still be empty and ppl will just then cry i want offline mode gone

It would stop people complaining about how it's sooo much easier to grind in solo mode and then go to open and blow everyone up with a billion-credit Anaconda.

/sarcasm.

Lol, you lot, accusing people who want to play online to be gankers and griefers. First off I didn't buy the game under the premise of their being thousands of players at one time, second, it was advertised as an "epic multiplayer space game". Nothing epic about it. 32 player instances is just laughable and just proves that FD bit off more than they could chew.
