what is the technical name for drunken vision effect?

Hi to all,
Iam new to the dk2 and even newer to ED which i purchased after looking online for game must haves for the dk2, must say great wow factor with these two.. but after my first couple of hours in the game i have started tinckering with the settings, ed had defaulted to high video settings so i tried ultra to see if my system could cope.
while sitting in a dock i notice
if look at your radar or the writing on the hangar door ahead of you and then move your head in small circular movements the image appears to seperate into 2, kind of like a tracer effect you can on a mouse cursor. dropping the settings to low greatly improves this but does not remove it completely. so any fast head movements get this double image effect while keeping your head still shows a clean sharp image..
what would i call this effect so i can search for a fix, or even better what is the fix?

incase it helps running gtx970, latest nvidia drivers, extended mode.

This is called judder and is most likely a result of not getting 75 frames per second.

I have a 970 too and there is always some judder inside of stations, even on low settings, but I can live with it, because in space it`s smooth most of the time.
You could get a second 970 to eliminate the problem but my advice is to just try to ignore it.
There is a lot of stuff in the making now, especially on the driver side, which will increase the performance a lot.

Judder is actually something a little different. What OP is seeing is streaking from the lack of low persistence. Judder is when low persistence is on, but the same frame is shown twice in order to sustain low persistence.

That said, the two effects are very similar in nature. But they look different.

Are you sure ? I tried Senza Peso earlier today with low persistence off on default and it just gave me horrible blur (felt bad for the people who have a dk1).

That is what OP is referring to.

Oh ok, so this is most likely caused by vsync capping at 60 fps or what do you think?
Im so happy that I had some old tn panel monitor around which is capable of 75hz at native res so I don`t have to deal with this ****.

I'm guessing he's just running settings too high. Then again, the 970 should do fine on at least medium in most areas. My 770 is doing pretty well on medium anyhow. For some reason, I never had those problems with the Rift locking onto my monitors' refresh rates.
My guess is that maybe OP has that issue with low persistence not being properly enabled, like other people have reported. Manually enabling it in the Oculus demo appears to help?

what he is seeing is the limitation of the screen.

The green pixels "turn on" from their offstate slightly slower then the red and blue pixels, leading to the smear.

Low perstance is supposed to not allow the pixeslt to turn completly off, letting them get to the lowest power state possible so they dont have the delay

a couple people have used a workaround by adjusting the green slider in video card settings to change the screen balance, not enough to be noticeable, but to never let the green pixels the chance to turn off

Hi thanks for the replies, heres an update..
Read in a post about sometimes the persistence can be switched off, downloaded the titans of space demo (so beautiful) and in the game turned persistence off, which was a massive difference and creates a similar blurring double image, turning it back on everything smooth as silk..
Back to ED and tried again but still had the same effect..
So I forced my asus monitor 120hz to 75 hz in the nvidia control panel so that both dk2 secondry monitor and asus primary monitor are running at 75hz.
Went back into the game and it seems to have fixed it, I can now set ed to ultra settings with just the shadows turned off and get a smooth image. Of course this is while I am sat in a loading doc so may go wrong when I actually start flying..
I am now going to try some down sampling..
