Outer Rim.

Thought I'd take a jolly to the outer rim and do some exploring.

I opened the galaxy map and noticed as you get further out, the systems have no allegiance.

Does this mean they have no stations, etc?

Anyone doing any kind of trading in the none allegiance outer rim systems?

As far as I know that does indeed mean there wont be any official stations there. You may come across the occasional unsanctioned outpost (pirates) though.

I've been a fair bit outside colonised space and there is no stations there. You may find a pirate outpost as previously mentioned but they seem fairly rare.

Honestly there is not many artificial things out there (ships/stations/probes) but you may bump into the odd lost pirate to interdict you. Exploration is a lonely career it seems.

Is it possible if you did missions for a system that had an allegiance right on the edge, they'd take over none allegiance systems?

There is a post about someone thinking they managed to convince a system to take over another but I believe it was later found out to have been a bug or didn't happen as they thought.

I imagine it might be something we see over time (since the game has only been running full release less than a month) but that's just speculation really.

I'm pretty sure FD intends for that to happen. A faction in expansion will actually move into a nearby unsettled system, build a station or outpost, start an economy. Whether it will work like that right now is still unclear.

People are trying to make that very thing happen. Stay tuned.

Are you talking about the galactic outer rim or the edge of inhabited space?

Just on the edge of inhabited space.

Find the last coloured system (one with an allegiance) in any direction, with plenty of black systems (none allegiance) next to it.

Out there the majority of systems will be uninhibited as I'm sure you've seen. Inhabited systems that are unaligned will probably be classed as independent. If you check on the galaxy map and set it to filter by economy you will probably see the vast, vast majority have none. My experience is that the last few systems on the way out will most likely be small scale mining outposts (which is kind of cool and fitting in an 'very edge of humanty' kind of way). Probably better off heading civ-ward for decent trading breaks.

I lived out in that space for a good while (before and after launch, I'm only now coming in from the cold so to speak). It's all I knew. I'm coming in now to find conflict zones. If a system has a color on the map it likely has a station (I think it always does actually). Independent means they are independent. HOWEVER they can have an allegiance to Federation or Alliance. Often I'd find many allied with Federation where I was because everything was either a blue or green dot where I was.

Yes you can find many unsanctioned outposts. These do NOT perform ship scans. You are free to dock here with illegal cargo. They are easy to visually spot as well because they have red skull holograms on the station (usually platforms).

Many times you can refuel and repair and then sometimes rearm (as I recall prices weren't as nice). Less frequently (though you'll find it enough) you can find outfitting and even more rare a shipyard. You will need to go back to Federation, Alliance, or Empire space to get more items, ships, etc.

The systems on the edge make for a great place to refuel and return to in order to sell exploration data. You can practically pick any direction and head out and loop back another way and sell tons of exploration data.

The gray dots are of course empty. No stations.

Also note: This is where you'll need a kill warrant scanner. You can hop to an anarchy system nearby and find NPCs. Scan them to see if they have bounties in populated space. You will not see their bounties in the local system because those systems have no authority. I still find resource extraction sites to be better because they have a more steady stream of NPCs to bounty hunt. However, you will not run the risk of shooting an authority ship in these uninhabited systems =)

Might go and have an explore then.

It's either that or buy a type 7 and I just don't managed to find any trade routes worthy of such a large trade ship.

Such takeovers have happened (e.g. nearby of Zelano system just today).
