I think rank display in appropriate territory is ok. So, In Fed Space you'd be RECRUIT Knickertickler, but elsewhere (unranked) you'd be CMDR Knickertickler for example. Otherwise, no, you get your combat rank in the target display, so beyond that it serves no useful purpose.
Hmm. I'd not actually thought about this but I can see it adding a bit of variety, and that's no bad thing.

As long as it's an EARNED title then yeah, why not. I'd not wanna see someone just decide to call themselves "Admiral High Space Lord Fred Nurks, Ruler of the Seven Kingdoms and Saviour of the Purple Mushroom Men". Apart from the fact that it would cheapen earned titles, it'd take up most of my screen to display it on the hud. Besides, those purple mushroom men are delicious.
I do wish we could just use our name. And have the option to make other data broadcast like rank etc, or perhaps such information could be bought by those wishing it. I seem to remember something like that being discussed.
What ever happened to not knowing who was Pilots Federation and who wasn't without a transponder? I thought that was a done deal. Hopefully it is scheduled for implementation. That makes no sense if all Pilots Federation members automatically have CMDR in front of their name.

And yes definitely it needs to be earned. You're a CMDR until you prove otherwise, nub.
Titles here mean something? My Viscount comes from doing a handful quests. I have earned titles in other games way harder than here. They meant something to me.
I'm not talking in terms of implementing the code. I mean will they listen to good ideas and act upon it. I have read so many good ideas by forum members that everyone says "hey that's a great idea", just for it to fall by the wayside. I try and remain positive though and instead of thinking "well they've ignored that then" I try and think "hopefully they will get that in the game in the future".

Ironically, I was literally a Master and Commander earlier today, as I began to accrue Imperial ranks to match my Federation ones...
