I've managed to kill 2 Anacondas with 2 Medium Gimballed Multi-Cannons (MGMCs) by targeting their power plants (with help). I now see their use and repent of (most) my Fixed sins. I still have 2 Small Fixed Beam Cannons for DPS.
It's good to have some fixed weapons too, in case the enemy deploys chaff. Makes gimbaled weapons pretty much useless for the duration.
This.Nah - just remove target lock from the chaff user and a gimbaled weapon functions as a fixed weapon.

If you're not locked, you don't have you lead indicator though. Still makes aiming trickier.

It is still good to have fixed regardless (especially on smaller ships) because:
1. Fixed versions are stronger
2. Fixed beam lasers DON'T dance around like they are a contestant in Dancing with the Stars
Not enough to justify using them over gimballs. It is still good to have fixed regardless (especially on smaller ships) because:

And where did you get this stat? did someone run the numbers like a couple of commanders have on the shields lately? But yes, fixed weapons do either 20 or 25 percent more damage
Not enough to justify using them over gimballs.
Alright, I agree with that. For dogfighters fixed is still way better and more than enough to justify using Fixed. Try flying a decked out Eagle or Viper, fixed beam is so deadly accurate that using gimbal will only be determetial rather than helpful.
3 fixed beams on an Eagle evoporates another Sidey/Eagle easily in less than 10 secs, provide that you can aim.
Not enough to justify using them over gimballs.
