Why so much negativity?

.

I guess its only a bad thing when EA releases games unfinished, buggy and then milks with DLC (Expansions)
But when Frontier does it, its all forgiven!

The difference is EA release games unfinished and buggy but try to pretend they arent, then milk it with DLC while maintain ignorance. Frontier have not. They have always maintained the game is unfinished and will be an ongoing process.

well my intention was to make a thread of love and peace, but the inevitable happened and it turned into a flame war between people who are not playing the game any more and as such probably should have better things to do than post on a forum page for a game they are not playing and those people who have changed their GUI in game to a nice rose tinted colour ;p

Me I am rocking the rose tinted glasses still xD

Except for the communicate with other players, most of what you seem to be asking for is not covered by what FD plan for ED. They have lots of things they want to implement, a lot of it in the DDA, and probably some plans they haven't discussed openly, but those ideas probably are not on the list.

If that is what you want, then this is probably not the game for you and never will be.

Of course, i cannot speak for FD, so have no idea what the future will bring... but what you suggest just doesn't sound like Elite to me. It sounds like you want some sort of space based strategy game like Age of Empires in space.

Someone never played EVE Online or X3 did he?
You can have a POS in both of the games.

And its an RTS because one wants the ability to join a fleet with friends/corp mates and do massive warfare taking over territory?

So the goal of Elite is: Singleplayer ghosttown 3.0
Event though its advertised as an MMO... yet has no MMO features.

Yes, that's it. So why not find another forum to haunt instead? You've had nothing positive to say about your experience in the game since I first noticed your attention-seeking posts here on the forum. It's obviously not for you. Seems a little masochistic to stick around. Unless that's your thing, of course. Not judging. Plenty of MPs pay good money for that kind of thing apparently.

Different mix.

Some are negative because they wanted Elite to be (insert other game) 2.0.
Some are negative because players in (insert other game) left for Elite.
Some are negative because they fear its sucess will make (insert other game) irrelevant in its future release.

Positivity wont improve the game.
Criticism and negativity will.
When Negativity turns into Positivity, then you know you've done something right.

Game is unfinished (as mentioned by every review on the market), game was however advertised as feature complete, as an MMO, yet has none of those features necessary to make it feature complete or an MMO.

I think the main reason for the negativity.. is the game has been released incomplete. There are obviously lots of things that need improvement, so lets's hope they improve the game fast enough.

Having said that.. the graphics are good, the flight model is good.

I thing that the biggest obvious flaw is that there is very little player interaction or social features. Very odd in an online game released 2014. More like something from, well 1984.

I'm with Jamesmay on this. The game was recommended by friends, I was told it was multiplayer, all the information FD put out said it was multiplayer (MMO EVEN), I expected some multiplayer.
What I got was this.
If this is multiplayer then its among the worst I've ever encountered. I could not say that a refund would not please me at this point. I feel lied to, or mislead AT BEST. If you ask FD about it they simple state they are sorry but cannot grant a refund. For me IT SHOULD ALREADY BE IN THE GAME. I guess if I gave $ to SC I can wait, begrudgingly, Mr. Braben at least seems to have a product, but seriously, this only builds contempt.

Criticism and negativity
Ah, the winning combination. Do you even think about what you type into the little box before you hit reply? Let's deal with the truth or otherwise of your "motivational" strategy.

I have personally made a few suggestions that would, in my opinion, improve the game. I have also made a couple of suggestions that would, again in my opinion, improve the relationship between the studio and the player base. I posted them on this forum, same as other people.

I have a good reason why I don't tend to start off by griping about the status quo, that reason being that I'm not an idiot. People are all different though. If you want to persuade anyone with any power to implement the changes you want to immediately stop reading, I would suggest that a good way to achieve that would be to start off with the same whining that you've seen from the previous wally who said the same stuff ("nothing to do", "not an MMO", etc etc). As the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

So, back to the "negativity and criticism breed success" slogan. Are you suggesting that my suggestions are less valid, or less valuable, or less likely to be noticed because I don't liberally cover them all with a fresh coat of moan, express them with LOTS OF CAPS or foretell the doom of the game/studio/Braben family like some neckbearded Cassandra?

I feel like you lifted that cod philosophy from some overpaid annoying sportsperson, one of those IRL trolls that makes life a little less enjoyable by merely existing. Those are the guys who have to rationalise away their own unpopularity in any way that makes sense in their own little worlds and so use it as fuel, each success powered by spite. A wonderful way to exist, I'm sure.

I prefer encouragement, positivity, and offering suggestions for improvement. Call me crazy.

Armour, your last paragraph makes no sense mate.
Its all over the place with no sense.
Also, you are calling COD unpopular, which it isn't. (I don't play COD, I play Destiny)
Its a more apt description of what I find here on this forum, what I like to call CRAZY white knights.
You cant be biased, can you? LOL!

Look up the phrase "cod philosophy" and get back to me.

Armour, pardon my embarrassment, I thought it was reference to Call of Duty, which it is not. It does form a view of your opinion toward sporting event announcers. Fair enough. However I find it still extends to the white knights, and most definetly haters. LMAO, thank you for the refreshing educational, again apologies for my misinterpretation.

Perhaps instead of being a pretentious know-it-all, pull your head out of your backside, and politely explain what you meant. You could have just as easily said 'pseudophilosophy' and there would have been less chance of a misunderstanding in the first place.

Why would I want to do that, when the phrase "cod philosophy" is pretty common? There's a difference between being a "know-it-all" and knowing stuff, you know.

Common where? Everyone knows stuff, but one should never assume, right? If you came on a work site with me I could have you feeling daft by days end, no worries. :)

Now this exchange was funny. You're trying to teach calculus to kindergartners Armour. Probably not worth the effort. ;) The pew pew crowd just isn't going to get it, just ignore them, they'll be gone back to their shooters inside the month.

I actually took the time to read this thread, and it has hit the point of going nowhere. Including Dabba's post above (seriously what purpose does that add except to fan the flames?). It is amusing to see (in a hypocritical way)those attacking negativity and criticism being so negative and visceral about it... for the first couple of pages, but this thread has hit the point of no return.

There is a large portion of people who feel the unfulfilled promises made in development is a breach of trust, even if those features may be added in the future.

Many of you disagree and are happy with the diminished scope in the release. That's fine too, but you dont need to resort to insults. The thread, ironically enough, has turned into one of the most negative threads I have come across by the very people who are defending it. Everyone can save themselves embarrassment here and just drop it.

So what would you like? Should I list synonyms and alternative phrases with each post? A glossary, perhaps? To me, the phrase "cod philosophy" is not only more common than pseudophilosophy, it's less unwieldy. I don't post to be pretentious, and tend to use the same phraseology when I speak as when I type, just sprinkled with a few more ahs and ums.

I have no doubt you could make me feel daft on your work site, we all have our own domains, after all. But I was labelled as a white knight. I don't think that's true of me, and is in fact needlessly insulting, so I responded.

Im not here to argue, nor did I call you any names. I simply pointed out a phenomena. I begged pardon for my misunderstanding yet you seem to want the moral 'high ground'. I am no philosopher, and haven't heard the term. If you feel I placed you in the camp, that is on you. Please continue to belittle and discredit me, I'm on board for all the LOL's I can get.
