Emperor Moved to Hospital Bed - Prepare for Space "Game of Thrones" - Cheat Sheet Inside!

So I hear winter is coming... and that dear old Emperor Hengist Duval is not feeling well and has been moved to the newly prepared "hospital wing" of his Imperial Palace.

Seems everyone wants to get their grubby little paws on the seat of power...

Which house will you fly for?

I can never keep these highfalutin players straight, so correct me if I'm wrong... Here's my current Cheat Sheet for "Space Drama Bingo" or, "Who will ascend to the Iron Space Throne?":

Arissa Lavigny - Or is it Arissa "Duval" now? (I hear she might be Princess Arissa soon.) She's the lovechild of our current beloved Emperor and a flame from the past. The Emperor and her mother, Florence Lavigny (does she also go by Helen?), just had an announcement for an emergency, "let's make everything legal for a handover" wedding! And we wish those two lovebirds the best of luck!

Chancellor Anders Blaine - The Emperor's old "yes man", and seems to also be in the pocket of Arissa Lavigny. I bet he'll follow whoever signs his paycheck at the end of the day though.

Harold Duval - Son of the current Emperor and recently decreed mad and "not of sound mind." I hear this man is crazier than a coconut.

Aisling Duval - The daughter of Harold "The Mad" Duval and granddaughter of the current Emperor. Oh! And she's also a popular celebrity socialite! I hear she likes to talk... a lot.

Senator Denton Patreus - He's already come out to say that the succession should not be about "bloodlines" but about what is best for the Empire. He's reduced taxes of his Patronage systems to zero. Besides, I hear he's a billionaire philanthropist playboy who is also one of the Empire's top arms dealers. I hear he's going places.

Senator Zemina Torval - She's the one trying to crack down on the mining slave revolt over in Sorbago, and always seems to be at odds with Senator Patreus. With her own two personal capital ships, the Boudica and the Elizabeth, Senator Torval seems to be a nice "Iron Fist" take charge, kind of woman.

...

Meanwhile in Federation space all we have is President Jasmina Halsey fighting the "War on Drugs"... or in this case, specifically, "Fighting the war on Onionhead because it's the kid's favorite flavour of the month." (Someone must be making a lot of money behind the scenes with this caper.) Pretty tame, and business as usual for the Federation.

...

And who is "Helen" is that Florence Lavigny's middle name? maiden name? nickname? typo in the GalNet News article from when she was originally going to be called "Helen"? It's a great mystery that needs to be solved! Besides, should Florence herself be considered a contender since she will be marrying the good Emperor?

Have I missed any other key players who will be vying for the Throne?

What say you fellow CMDRs?

You know, the Galnet Newsfeeds could do with pictures.... personally I can't tell who's Duval, who's Torval, etc... they are just words on a screen, not a "real person".

Even if it's a funny pic ala Frontiers bulletin board screen would be nice... at least I'll recognise the chap and say "oh him again!".

OK I vote for pics. It WOULD make the lore a lot easier to follow. I might not remember your name, but I will never forget your face. :D

To be honest, I think the worldbuilding, so to speak, in this game is pretty terrible. There's very little information in-game about what the Federation, Empire and Alliance are all about. I had to rely on a wiki. The galnet news bulletins are short, uninspired, poorly written and badly edited, and there's very little flavor text elsewhere in the game.

Right now I couldn't care less about the Empire, since the story is so poorly delivered. The "flying in space" immersion is certainly here, but all other types of immersion fall flat so far. Hopefully it improves.

Very helpful, thank you very much!

I feel that Arissa has the best claim, but (as in Game of Thrones) I don't think that will matter much in the end...

Wow - that's a good read!! I finally get a little bit of the story. Like user FoxTwo and Erasmus Dynamo have written above, the GalNet News are pretty scrambled. It would be ok, if we already new who these characters were and what their backstory is, but I cannot find that in the game. I usually get confused and it doesn't help, that some of the names are similar (like Duval/Torval).

When Game of Thrones started I was confused too (probably everyone was), now I'm pretty confident on the who's who and who is connected in what way to who). I hope the connections get more clear as the story progresses.

This is actually an amazing Idea, I would really like to see this implemented. +1

We have the opposition leader "Shadow President Hudson" (wants to militarise the Federation) and Federation Admiral Vincent (commanding the forces sent to Kappa Fornacis)

What would be amazing would be that you can click on hyperlinks in the newsfeeds and it brings you to related news snippets/bio/events featuring them.

Just like the ancient Earth planet-wide communication system called "The Internet" :) Probably the predecessor to Gal-Net even!

Harald apparently turned into a gorilla in one of his misadventures. Aisling's mother could be 'Eccy G.' a model for the R.I.G. publication.

Thank you for this great write-up :)
Now i have a clue what's on the world politics. I hope what comes will be exciting so I can turn my attention towards it in my gameplay.

My attention would turn faster if there's a pic of Aisling/Arrissa (whoever) and she looks hot.

I'd scramble over to Empire space immediately!

:D
