Landing Pad Sizes on Stations

I got an Imperial Clipper now. (Finally after an load of work....)

Now I got but one Problem.
Hardly any Stations lets me Dock anymore......


Are Large Dockpoints exclusively on the Big Stations which got an Interior Dock.
Or are there actually any Outpost Stations which do have an Large Docking Pad ?

Also.
It doesnt seem like Missions take into account my Size.
They continue to give me Missions for small Posts at which I cannot land.
Is there a way to make it so that these Missions are shown as Unavailable ?

Not all stations have all size of the docking pad. Giant start ports have all the size but outposts (that are caracterized in game as run-down road-side cafe, isolated fuel station, research outpost) do not have all sizes. Also if there is only 1 large docking pad and that one is ocupied, you need to wait.
Its like in real life, a lots of places for small cars but few for road titans.

You will get better missions based on the standing with that sytem / faction, not related to the size of your ship (here, size doesn't matter)

outposts only have medium sized pads so no, you won't be able to dock at them. there is no way of pushing outpost missions into the unobtainable category, all you can do is if you are unsure about the size of a station check the map of the system its in to find out how big it is.

AndyB, based on informations from the Elite Pilots Guide, some outposts do have all the size docking pads. Depends on the size of the outpost but since most of them are small-medium type, they have docking pads as it, small - medium (check page .73 from guide)

Also I think you gave me the wrong page.
Page 73 from the Manual is about Interdiction.
I cannot find anything on Pad Sizes in it.

Or do you mean a different Guide maybe ?

Hello Commanders!,

Outposts (the small stations with external docking bays) are only capable of servicing the needs of small and medium sized vessels. If you are in a larger ship such as the Imperial Clipper, you will need to dock at a normal station (a Coriolis or Orbis for example) since they have the facilities to accept the big ships.

If you look on the system map you can see that the icons for all the types of station are different, so you can easily identify outposts from the larger stations. A quick way of knowing what size your ship is, when you are sitting on the landing pad count the number of blast shields that fold down when you take off. If there are three shields, you are in a large sized ship and won't be able to dock with an outpost.

Anything that has the Docks inside can Accept Large Crafts.
Anything that has the Docks outside cannot Accept Large Crafts.

Simple enough.
Albeit thats setting me on an new Problem.
Since the Docking Computer works real poorly for the Larger Stations :/

You have to be quite sensible with the docking computer. It isn't smart enough to dock you properly from, say, behind the station. Park your ship in line with the entrance, ask for docking permission and you will have no trouble.

Never seen an outpost with big landing pad...
All of them have medium lp.
You need a Python (or ASP) to land again in outpost.
Docking computer is nice but it take a place that profitable cargo or fuel scoop can use... Learn to dock its one of the best parts or the game.

I really like docking manually and its a lot faster than docking with the dock computer. But I still use the DC because during auto-docking I can study the galaxy map to decide where to go next etc.
Sadly the auto-dock gets stuck quite frequently especially on outposts so it should be fixed/improved. The whole point of a docking computer should be that it is able to dock you reliably. I would even go for a higher class more expensive , faster and also more reliable docking computer

Docking Computer moves to an preset Position regardless of where you Initiate it.
and it wont allow you to start Autodock from behind the Station anyways.

But even if your basicly right in front of the Bay in perfect angle, It still moves to the side and gets stuck.
Problem is that its apparently more set for Small Ships.
Bigger Ships are pretty much not in its range.
It fails to acquire the right angle for Approach from its preset Position and thus gets Stuck.

Python is too Expensive and if Type6 is better for this than ASP I think since its much Cheaper

also how do you think I have been docking since the Docking Computer Always gets stuck ?
I could Dock before this Game was Released.
Not an science is it ?

But the Automatic Docking Sequence is usually an good Chance to use the Toilet, Check the Forums etc.
For an Trader its an nice change of pace to sometimes stand up from his Computer or do some Backround stuff instead of just flying back and forth

I wish my Viper would Yield as much Money Fighting as the Type6 does Transporting stuff around.
The Combat Rewards in this Game are far too low.

For Larger Ships they should give an Class 2 Compartment Docking Computer which however allows you to Dock properly and reliably with Large Ships.
Can be Expensive for all I care if its doing its job.


Docking Manually is Faster of course.
But sometimes you do want to have some Time in Between.
And for this the DC is Perfect


Just would wish they would give you an Hotkey to Disable it.
On Smaller Stations when DC Bugs out.
Its really hard to Dock Manually cause its always annoying you and trying to take control....

Docking computer override is on your right hand screen under 'modules'. Turn it off there and dock freely.

IMHO, there should be an option to dock (but not land) with an outpost with larger ships using some form of airlock, so that you can pay for bounties, pick up missions or other minor things that do not involve your ship directly.
Obviously, outfitting shouldn't be allowed.
But since repairs and refuels are done without the ship actually entering the docking bay, it should be possible to do repairs too I think.

Point is that there should be a half-way option for larger ships to interact with outposts as these are sometimes the only things available in a system.

Agree, price of python is high, but can make 3 times more money in a safer way and take any mission without problems... And I'm a big fan of ASP's and L-6's!.
I'm in a T-7 now, but not very comfortable, since I miss the outpost routes, and definitely will go for the Python.

Speaking of outposts, I'm sure you guys have noticed it too, but when landed ship enters the hangar, the animation is the same as in larger space stations, but the dimensions of the hangar below the landing pad seen from outside the outpost don't seem to correspond to the area taken up by the animation whilst inside. I'd love to hear how the Devs pulled that one off

Docking computer

Odd in 200 docks with DC I have only had one goofed caused by an AI ship. Landing a Federated Cutter or Anaconda. I have done manual landings timed by a friend and the DC is much faster. All the previous Elite Games you did not use DC until lined up with mailbox slot.
