Why would someone do this?

People are not supposed to know your personal life; how you rushed home, didn't have enough time to play the game, needed to risk everything in a single trade route...

It's a video game where one of the choices you can make is shooting others. Nothing more, nothing less. You're reading way too much into it. Other players are not going to request your personal status first prior to attacking you.

This is just a part of what makes this game horrible to play.

If you can't handle getting shot at don't play it in open mode, it's really simple.

Edit: If you meant that players like OP is the cancer that is making this game horrible to play, I agree.

Perhaps he was having a bad session and so decided to cheer himself up by pulling the wings of a few bugs... It seems you may have beenin the wrong place at the wrong time.

I started off playing solo at first for this very reason... Make your money, get your ship, upgrade it so it can defend itself and then go open play. To do it any other way is to risk having your wings pulled off for no other reason than your wings are fun to detach for those who just lost a ship, some money or any reason they think will do.

If the guy messaged him telling him to drop his cargo, sure, that would have been different. Doing it without saying a word like that, is being a griefing POS monkey.

That person didn't break any of the game's rules. Disabling somebody's thrusters is mean, but it's perfectly allowed. Neither naming and shaming nor doxing them is an appropriate reaction.

Seeing as the person didn't break any of the game's rules, there is no shame, so why not name?

As Dabba is really lacking lately with the cliches to descripe these people, here are some more:

- they are psycopath people in RL
- eat Babies
- have acted against Geneva rules several times
- are probably EVE players

Apart from that, what that dude did to you was an move, either kill you or rob you but not leave you stranded with dead thrusters to avoid more then the 400cr bounty he got for it.

Ah... before I miss it:

I`ve yet to meet one tho...

Yeah, because the player to player communication is so user friendly and typing is super-easy when you use a HOTAS. I haven't tried pirating yet, but doubt I'd fire up a typing conversation with someone if I did.

Then you deserve to be called a and be named as such. Seriously, if you aren't going to take the time to at least have a macro type out a basic message when pirating... you shouldn't be pirating. And shooting people just to shoot people, while not breaking the rules, is being a .

I think everyone trading in Open should just use kurush task kill script

Why would you bother with that instead of simply playing solo? Perhaps if you're in the Elite comp but then you're risking FD disqualifying you if they decide task killing is unfair/an exploit.
If you want to be safe and still have interaction then play Mobius on another PvE group.

Even so, it's disallowed here for very good reasons.

Until they fix it or put in a better player based bounty system I think everyone trading in Open should just use kurush task kill script, it seems like Frontier has made it pretty clear that this is the wild west and they aren't big on punishing exploits. Protect yourself however you can until they show us otherwise.
The funny part is that I don't even use or plan to use this script in any PvP encounters. The game tends to go postal on you for no apparent reason (i.e. exit the station, clip the rail, get kicked back and die in seconds :) ) It seems to have an ignore list though, so somebody just needs to compile a list of PvP happy players and add them there :) We need an external "naming and shaming" place for that list as it is frowned upon here. May be PvP advocates would put their commander names in signatures to make it easier? :p

Having to set up a macro to type out a basic message in a game in 2015, is, just quietly, a move.

Either set up proper ship to ship voice comms, set up a set of pre-defined text messages, or let players type in pre defined text messages BUILT AS PART OF THE GAME ITSELF, and not needing to use some external system to do so.

Sure. I can agree with that. If you don't want to do that though, and still want to be a pirate, then like everyone else says for other things, you can deal with the consequence of being called out/being a .

Ahh the common come back of the bully. If someone doesn't like your move, they must just be a soft little panzy.

Sorry but if someone is going to grief another player for no reason, they should be allowed to be named here. It's not like there's an ingame system for putting bounties on someone. If FD wants the player community to "take care of" behavior problems like this then we should be able to communicate about it.

Anyway now that I know the guy's name I'll be looking out for him/her.

Don't play in open.

What is worse are the comments from the warm fuzzy crowd that Frontier allows to trash their forums and deters many from participating in the community and has probably sent many lurkers here to choose other options.

And you were trading in open because...... ????

Thread after thread on here explains why solo and private groups exist, sorry man, but you chose to be in open.

Brand new here. I thought "open" was the only place you could play with other people besides some typ of provate practicing. I have no issue with getting pirated or killed for some type of gain. VERY annoying to get left for dead for no reason tho. Griefers are scum IMHO. If you can gain something by blasting me, then by all means do so.

That's not bullying. Bullies use violence to get what they want. I'm more the psychologist type, advocating self-help to overcome one's internal fears about a harsh and uncaring world. I'm sorry if a pic of D-day was too harsh (and it takes a while to find a censored version of the HTFU sentiment, I was trying to be gentle). Maybe this is better:

Still, to stay on topic, there is no concrete proof that the commander in question was trying to be a . The game isn't set up well for PvP or for communication. He could have been doing it to grief. He could have been just playing his game sensibly. It isn't necessarily his fault that those two things can overlap in the game mechanics.
