Why would someone do this?

Was just about to to move from the Adder to Cobra tonight. Rushed home from work to play excited that if i hurried i could maybe make the 100k i needed before bedtime and purchase the Cobra. I was carrying 100k (of my 200K credits) in cargo and got jumped by "CMDR <redacted - please do not name and shame>" who pulled me out of supercruise. He opens fire immediatly. I think he may have targeted my thrusters on purpose with the intent to leave me stranded but alive as he did. Either way he takes me down to 5% with disabled thrusters and flies away leaving me stranded but alive, forcing me to have to self destruct and costing me hours of lost play time i had in the value of my cargo.

That leaves me with a couple of questions.

1.) Why not finish me off? Was this to avoid a bounty or some penalty?

2.) Was this a child gettting kicks on be a griefer?

3.) If it was not a child, what kind of grown man would get any pleasure out of griefing someone for no gain?

EDIT:

Really shouldn't post when aggravated. I edited out the guy's name. Is what it is. Just a few hours setback and I started a revenge list now. :)

Damn droids...

As Dabba is really lacking lately with the cliches to descripe these people, here are some more:

- they are psycopath people in RL
- eat Babies
- have acted against Geneva rules several times
- are probably EVE players

Apart from that, what that dude did to you was an move, either kill you or rob you but not leave you stranded with dead thrusters to avoid more then the 400cr bounty he got for it.

Ah... before I miss it:

I`ve yet to meet one tho...
In my head i see people who grief like a mental institution patient going "duuuuuh boom boom pew pew duuuuh is funny duuuh pew pew boom boom pew pew duuh", and im seeing this person have gotten access to ED from the wardens office on a laptop. The warden lying on the floor next to the griefer from being hit over the head with a chair.

Maybe a bit over the top, but i cant see a healthy normal human being finding it fun to just mess with people for no other reason than to cause annoyance and pain to others. Something is definately wrong in the head.

No hard feelings. I just edited out your name and was hoping it was nowhere in this thread.
Good thing I was able to add it to the ignore list already :) We need to crowd-source such things along with ware prices. Oh, and name on the forum apparently is the same, nice:)

I was coming up with rules for the roleplay while I was flying about. At that point cargo seemed worthless to ask for since I blow out the thrusters but ate most of the hull. Since I didn't have the Hatch limpet, I couldn't force pop them and I sure as hell couldn't shoot without destroying. So the best option was to just fly away. I didn't have any snappy things to say about the stuff till after the fact. By all means shoot me down if you see me, it's fair game. No worries.

I lost a few wanted AI drifting away with destroyed trusters a couple of time : the ship sometime start to spin, flying away at speed my asp can't reach even on boost.

I have to be honest, OP made me smile. It's sadistic *but* a little funny too.

That was so high a level of Machiavellian evil that it almost came full circle to "awesome".

We should form a taskforce to hunt people when this kind of stuff happens.

I bet he was an Imperial Slave, people have no Honor these days.

In this case I say griefer, meta-gaming the fact that there is currently not yet any way to deal with destroyed engines (e.g. distress call), deliberately causing you a death and loss of ship and cargo without incurring the larger bounty for murder.

Yeah this is a problem. As far as Piracy is concerned, there is no way to Pirate a player who knows what they are doing unless you "snipe" their drives. So CMDRs are encouraged to do something that is technically worse than murder because they won't get the fine for you pressing the self destruct button.

But if he didn't even take any cargo...yeah he was just being a jerk.

Solo mode, my friend...solo mode. Such examples are why I don't play online and won't until wings are implemented so I can fly with friends.

the "guy" is probably a not a guy at all but 12 year old who spent the last 2 weeks off from school doing nothing but playing elite and crying to mommy for another juice box.

Leaving you stranded is pretty much the same as killing you so don't really see the issue.

Yeah go solo if you want to admit defeat or buy an Auto Repair Kit so it won't happen again.

If the auto-repair system was capable of repairing the thrusters, there would be no problem. It would simply be a case of "carry the module or risk being stranded" the same as a fuel scoop is when travelling longer distances.

Certainly it should be perfectly possible for a player to destroy the thrusters of another ship for whatever reason they choose.

But wouldn't it be great if you could fire off a distress signal, and have players and NPC's (for certain including any system security in the vicinity) respond. Wouldn't it make the multiplayer experience richer if we could provide mutual support between ship - refuelling, rearming, repairing within limits. It would be a serious boost for exploration also. Making it possible for a small group of ships to be a much more durable unit than an individual with dedicated ships to provide fleet services.

Or finishing them off...

Nice idea though.

Yes indeed, why I play solo. Dealt with that type enough in a forsaken game called AION. I hope you will be able to find him though and have him reap your righteous revenge.

In a game world that loitering on a station doesn't get you finned.... It actually gets you blown up and left yo freeze on the deep cold space....

.... Killing you, or forcing you to kill yourself is normal, valid and fun.

You should try it sometime xp
