ED needs a separate Online PVP Game Mode.

Yes, yes I know about "that other game", and I know this isn't CoD.

But I want to see a seperate game mode in ED (Similar to the training tutorials) with ranked matchmaking and Online PVP, completely seperate from the main game.

I wan't to test my metal in fight to the death - seening how woefull the networking this will probably be the only way to experiance it as I never see other players, and likley never will get to enjoy much if at all any PvP shanagins in the +12 timezone where I live.

Beat you to it...

I counter with FD should make a PvP mode for those who want it and remove any non consensual encounters from open - like a little tick box or something. The PvP mode should be isolated and the stuff in it has to stay in it, it could be 1000 Systems, in lawless space, no police, no factions, just guns... lots and lots of guns with no real place to hide.

There, that's a better idea :)

2 hours ago, but thanks for trying to steal my idea (sort of) :p

lol ;)

That will be called "ironman" mode and is being discussed.

Iron man mode won't help me find anyone else to fight though. The game is basically solo mode for me, I was talking more of a seperate "Battle Simulation Mode". With preset ships in a fixed instance.

Much like a typlical FPS PvP modes. You bring nothing from the current game, and get nothing to take back, just a chance to try your skill against other players.

Not exactly - Ironman is a separate set of three online modes whereby only Ironman players meet other players. Ironman means if you lose your ship and don't eject for yourself, you're dead - if you do eject for yourself it's the same as the normal online modes.

But Why?

If you want to death match with other players, just either pick a system and all go there, or create yourselves a private group. No need for Frontier to do anything.

PvP does not interest me at all, if I happen to get into it through open play then that is fine, but I don't go looking for it. So long as the pvp arena's have no effect on the background simulation I can't see a problem.

What do you want?

PVP? Go to the starting systems, we don't need any more game modes.

You want real perma-death? It's being discussed and it likely come up eventually.

Just lol. For viable PvP you need to zero insurance cost first. Then you might get something. Ironman is Dead is Dead and that is where you would avoid PvP at all cost.

Because you could add more traditional pvp arena functionality without impacting anyone else or having to grind your way to ships or make insurance buffers. It needn't be massively complex, just a lobby and some match making.

Not a mode I would play but I think it's a good idea to let the more aggressive amongst us get their kicks without having to pk (potentially unwilling) opponents in open.

Becaue I NEVER see any other players, I'm literally on the other side of the world - it's Wednesday here.

Even in the Frontier flashpoints like the Slave rebelion I don't see other players. It's very frustrating.

That doesn't work. You could make a forum post...only reaching a small percentage of the user base on at that time.

There is no "lobby" in game to find others and coordinate a match.

What you are suggesting requires people to have a filled in friends list. Not something we all have.

PvP players don't all just magically know each other.

Just to make things clear hear, we are talking about an ADDITIONAL game mode here, not altering or removing anything from PvP in the 'main' game, right?
Then I'd agree, would love to have some kind of arena to practice and having leaderboards and all ships + all gear to choose from to test things out.

This too, it's a way we can get our jolly's without affecting anyone else gaming experience. It's consensual BDSM without a safeword.

That sounds unfortunate, but what does it mean for your pings? If you have 300+ ping to the other players anyway, the PvP experience could be pretty jumpy.

I agree with that. In fact, there are probably already too many modes as it is. It should be open mode and nothing else. I have an sad feeling that there'll be a glut of pointless modes added to this game, with some that would make even the fluffiest carebear cringe.

Arguably, with the p2p instancing stuff already implemented, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to add a "quick fight" option to the main menu, like the tutorial stuff. But with people.

A totally separate game mode - a combat Arena so to speak. Basically a way to match make the bloodthursty and set them against each other.
