We know the "wings" update will come, but is that enough?
Do you want ED to be expanded to a "real" MMO with player interaction, class ships, guilds?
Or are you happy with how it is and MMO aspects would only dillude the experience?

A 32 player game (which is still a dream in Elite) can never be an mmo, so I assume you mean simple multiplayer features.

No point in making an online game without them.

edit: Your poll lists "classes" which is a little confusing. There is already sufficient customization in Elite imo so that seems like something that doesn't need to be there. Just a tip.

I suspect traditional MMOs are on their way out anyway, currently there is a major shift towards multiplayer with small sized group support and I think thats probably a good thing. I will add that with wings what they should do is input a chat system that isn't terrible, I'd like to be able to hold even a short conversation with the very rare commander I meet out here in the boonies.

I bought it for the solo experience, in fact I would not have bought it in the first place if it would have been "open" only. I'm quite happy with the way it is and if I ever feel the need to go "open", that option is still there.

Also, Elite: Dangerous was never intended to be a solo only experience. They did create a multiplayer game after all.

Kind of silly to pretend the game was meant to be solo only. The only reason it's lacking so many features is because it's nowhere near complete. It's very obtuse to pretend some early fraction of the game represents some vision. That's clearly not the case, they made an online only game.

Wow... 50/50. Maybe they should just hand out refunds and not support multiplayer. Nobody likes to be lied to.

The poll is badly formatted making voters choose all or nothing.

I don't want to go too far, but a mission with an an instance with for example a capital ship as boss for 32 players sounds like a possibility.
Classes as in group functional classes, e.g. Refueler, Repairer, Shield booster (I know that in this moment some people are probably going into anaphylactic shock).

I don't understand why so many people want everything to be an MMO now. Zenimax tried to do it with the Elder Scrolls and it turned out to be far less than what everyone was hoping for. I saw where some dude was talking about how and why the Homeworld series of games should be an MMO. Some games, all they really need is a little bit of multiplayer. The Elder Scrolls could have benefited more from some 4 player network dungeon crawling action instead of being translated into an MMO. Elite Dangerous is fine as is.

The traditional mmo experience is way past its sell buy date for me. One of the major reasons I will never play a subscription based model again, same tired old mechanics wrapped up in different pixels. In no way shape or form would I prefer ED to become something like that. Things I could happily live without, skill trees, linear progression, holy trinity and the cliched stereotype thinking that comes with it, randoms inviting me to their guild every time I pass them.

Although I expect it will change for me the social system in place is more than adequate I can talk to local players if I choose, but I don't want it to progress to the stage where we end up with group finders, player searches and mail with all the inherent spam that typically comes with it. I would suggest those that want that kind of thing go play a game that focuses on delivering that kind of experience rather than try to change a game that doesn't to adopt such features.

Same for me, although i won't be trying Open (just not my thing).

Apart from all "arena" games - Aces High ( avg 400 ) , WW2OL ( oh boy, was quite massive sometimes ), Armas ( baremetal server runs 128+ / 256 max ), etc

90% of MMOs are instanced but they give you a freaking massive feeling with the "public chat areas".

Anarchy Online is actually one of the oldies ( along with EVE and some few others ) that actually bring massive into the tabletop.

Tell me a moden MMO that fits 300 - 600 players in a single combat place... ? Then call it MMO.

I would land somewhere in the middle of the two options, so I haven't voted.

I don't mind clans/guilds for people who want them, but classes? What would that add?

Player owned stuff also sounds ok, but it's not something I personally crave.

I'd really like to see more polish, more variety to missions, more graphical variety in stations e.t.c, planetary landings with a whole host of new gameplay and of course a new flight model. More streamlined jump, docking and launch animations - an option would be fine if people want to keep the old ones.

Multi crewed ships would be cool too, as would larger ships carrying smaller ships.

More depth basically.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast, but the blast could be so much bigger and better.

Edit: I think the gfx could be improved too, but I'm not saying they're bad. Also the sound is sublime, more of that please :)

I think that the setup as it is now is *almost* fine. I really do wish that solo play did NOT affect the open game universe. I think that will become more and more apparent as the game gets more fleshed out.

I chose the first choice, but on behalf of "classes" i put my veto.
We don't need classes and clickable skill-hotbars.
"Guilds" or another name for player conglomerates allowing for better organization and representation in the game is a feature i would look forward to.
I'd like to see player owned stuff too, maybe a "guild" owned backwater outpost,
that would reward players for their actions regarding politics and the influence system.

Speaking on influence,
Gal Net needs to reflect the actions of the playerbase better than a "two liner" message hidden in a figurehead speech.

I'd love to see features like that. A "healing" ship could be cool. I see where you're going now.

Yeah that's kind of what I first thought when I read the poll too.

I don't want a traditional MMO, I want a sandbox MMORPG. Player interaction, impact on death (full loot including modules) crafting, territory control, corporations (clans), rewarding exploration (finding hidden blueprints from alien races that are far superior to human technology models) and so on.

I don't think this game intends to be an MMO though, unfortunately.
